Re: Non Ipswich transfers
Of course Freddie has more goals at this level he’s a lot older and he’s played a season (maybe 2 ?), Hirst is younger and hasn’t had much of any opportunities.
Look, I don’t want to trash Freddie. But he’s never quite done it for me since he’s been here. Yes he’s got goals, most of them in that 6yard area of the box. But his overall game and integration with what’s around him just looks a tad disjointed to me. I think he’s great a league one player. Championship and higher? Not so sure.
Hirst brought a lot to the table in second half of season: once he got up to speed he looked like he’d played in that front 3 all season. As a front 3 combination it appears to be far more intuitive. He hasn’t scored many goals, but that’s to come, and I think it will.
We all have players we take to and some that we don’t .
The take to players in this squad for me are
Morsy
Luongo
Davis
Broadhead
Chaplin
Hirst
Those I don’t, are
Hladky
Woolfie
Edmundson
Ball
Ladapo
The rest make no real impression either way really.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
Freddie has only played two more championship games than Hirst, 42 and 9 goals for Freddie 40 but no goals for Hirst both mostly playing for Rotherham, Hirst has age on his side so hopefully will improve even more under KMc as Freddie has done.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
Here are Stuart Watsons comments on Hirst the other day :
“MISLEADING STATS
The headline numbers when it comes to Hirst’s record in the Championship - zero goals from 41 appearances – really don’t tell the full story.
He made just one sub appearance in the second-tier for Sheffield Wednesday, coming on as a 17-year-old when the Owls were 2-0 down at Reading in December 2016.
Just four of his 31 league outings for Rotherham during the behind-closed-doors 2020/21 season came from the start.
Then Millers boss Paul Warne had nothing but praise for Hirst when the loan came to an end. He said: "I'd like to say on the record that George's attitude always stayed spot on. He was a really grounded kid.
East Anglian Daily Times: George Hirst scored seven goals for Ipswich Town during his loan spell from Leicester City.

“We were never in a position where we had plenty of points in the bank and I could take Smudge (Michael Smith) out of the team because Smudge was fundamental to our success.
“I feel sorry for George a little bit in that I didn't give him as much game-time as I possibly could have. I have no doubt he will go on and be an amazing centre-forward.”
Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson then cited Hirst’s lack of a proper pre-season as the reason he never quite got off the ground at Ewood Park in the first half of last season.
In total, Hirst has played just 943 minutes of Championship football in difficult circumstances. Now, at 24 and with two successful stints at League One level under his belt, there is every reason to believe he is ready to make that step up.”
943 mins / 90 mins = just over 10 games.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
I don't really have any reservations about Hirst in the Championship. When he first joined us on loan I was not overly impressed, however as he got to know his role and teammates better he improved dramatically. Just look at his goal against Barnsley! That was as good an all round goal as you're likely to see, making a mug of a very good defender (well shrugging off two of them in fact)!
KM has proved to be a very astute manager, knowing what he wants in a player. Hirst seems to rate him highly as a boss too.
It might be just conjecture at this point, but I feel come the seasons end, we'll be asking Ellis (Simms) who?

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
Is that likely ? …. Whilst it would be a great signing for Derby County I can’t imagine either Town wanting to sell or the player wanting to leave. At 30 surely he fancies a crack at playing at a higher level and will definitely get chances to be involved.
Given he was a freebie out of contract signing it would be all profit but to be honest I really wouldn’t want to see us lose him.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
I can’t believe his strange it looks seeing Declan Rice in an Arsenal shirt. Great signing for them but a lot of money. West Ham will struggle without him and will need to spend the money wisely to avoid another season flirting with relegation.

Seeing Harry Kane in a Bayern Munich shirt would be even more bizarre but looks on the cards if he’s up for it.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
Personally I don't believe there is a chance in hell of him leaving, he had a fab season last season and has been a bright spot of pre season do far with 4 Goals.Charnwood wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 12:21 pmIs that likely ? …. As far as I am aware there was a story on one of the football sites saying Derby would be keen on him but I'm not sure it's anything more than lazy journalism, I've certainly not seen anything official anywhere.
And maybe most importantly, Ladapo fell our with Warne at Rotherham and stated he wanted away for that very reason so I'd be amazed to see him sign up for a manager he didn't get on with again.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
I don’t get the Kane thing, apparently they are turning down £70m plus bids, surely Kane would just say to clubs ‘wait a year and I’ll come for free and you can give me £40-50m instead’. Surely if he is going to leave spurs are better off getting £70m plus than losing him in a year for nothing? I guess if he makes the difference of them qualifying for the champions league then that had a financial impact, but you’d think they could get a decent replacement for 70m (who would be more of an asset than someone about to leave for free).

Nothing wrong with your logic Shabba, but as they say sometimes football is a funny old game sometimes.shabba wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 2:29 pmI don’t get the Kane thing, apparently they are turning down £70m plus bids, surely Kane would just say to clubs ‘wait a year and I’ll come for free and you can give me £40-50m instead’. Re: Non Ipswich transfers
Problem is anything can happen in football. We don’t know if Town are looking at another striker. We were always going to sign Hirst it transpires but we were also after Simms. If thst had hsve happened we would have had Hirst, Simms & Ladapo. So would Ladapo still be wanted in a restrictive 25mins squad? I don’t think he’ll go if we don’t sign another striker, but if we do, I think we might cash in on him. Good gosls haul last season 29-30yrs of age…. Looking at it practically and with a business head in , I think we would.Bluemike wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 1:49 pmPersonally I don't believe there is a chance in hell of him leaving, he had a fab season last season and has been a bright spot of pre season do far with 4 Goals.Charnwood wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 12:21 pmIs that likely ? …. Here’s one of the articles . It was also in the Derby local rag about 2 weeks ago. So this might be more than lazy journalism.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
The Rice kid maybe isn't worth a third of the £ 105 M that bought him. Can't work out if Arsenal are stupid / reckless with money or got so much of it it's no great loss to them. Was thinking just now players we got ourselves like Walton (at his best) and Chaplin for starters, what price can or should you put on players like that. If Rice is valued at 105,000,000 then Walton and Chaplin together could or should bring in 50 million and then some. Hell why not push out the boat and stick 60 on it.
It's tough to put actual figures on it because the market's blown out of all proportion in today's game. Nothing's as it seems and price labels and values just spiral into disarray.
Kane's (still) a very good player but arguably beyond his supreme best. 70 million for player, on the verge of 30 years old would seem a touch extreme. The Germans should have made a move three, four years ago but you got ask the question how much would Spurs have wanted back then instead of present time.

Yeah Rice for 105mil is a fuckin joke. I liked Arsenal, but now I have my reservations. Kane should f*ck off to Bayern cuz Spurs ain’t winning anything until they get their defence sorted. These transfer fees are ridiculous!

Interesting, 1m plus add-ons. Ideal for them/him. Would gladly have him as a rotation option here but for £1m+ we are better off spending that money in other areas.
We might need to be patient now on signings, Trusty will be evaluated by Arsenal on their tour, plus in general loans tend to happen near the end of the Window as clubs want to see what interest there is first and seek the best possible deal.

Good bit of business by Argyle. He’s a very good active player both on and off the ball. Would’ve been good to see in a Town shirt.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
Ah right, really? I had no idea Ipswich had approached him. Not good but fair enough. Will keep an eye on how they progress but with Mike in thinking that they could be 17th & below all season scraping for survival. Thinking mid - 10th for ITFC….. which will be ok imo…… as long as its not a “fall” to 10th

Camara has joined Charlton in loan. I think they’ve got a very good player there, for nothing except his wages atm.

Hopefully that's their striker sorted out then, thought he had retired.
