Re: Non Ipswich transfers
As in selling players on for good fee's? 100% they will, that IS the model of any club who want to succeed but in a sustainable way. Brighton and Brentford are the role models there.
I suspect we will see the 1st case of this next summer, Davies, Broadhead etc could easily be 10m+ players by then. Club will sell, then re-invest on another 2-3 players in similar profile (1-3m on 20-24 year old's).

Southampton are the interesting one, just sold Livementaro for 40m, JWP for 30m and Lavia may go for 50m. 3 key players but serious cash which they will no doubt spend a bit of.
It’s not only transfer fee income helping Leicester’s finances, it’s also about reducing their wage bill by releasing the likes of Tielemans, Soyuncu, Armarty, Perez and Evans etc whose contracts were allowed to run down and let go on free transfers. Not forgetting they also bagged £80m this year selling Wesley Fofana to Chelsea.

Re: Non Ipswich transfers
Already hugely wealthy players selling their soul to a regime that they all purport to disagree with but are happy to turn a blind eye purely for cash... I went there twice for work and hated it both times - the best part was about 30 minutes after take off on the flight home when the Captain comes on and says 'Ladies and Gentlemen (when we used to be able to say that
) - we have just left Saudi air space and the bar is open...!' Never again. This Saudi thing will kill sport, even more than the plastic Premier League ever has. Anyone planning to pay to watch a Saudi league game this weekend? No - I thought not... just like LIV in golf, it takes any pleasure out of it. I do fear for the future in terms of enjoyment if we do ever go up...

How long ago did you visit out of interest?
It's a tricky one as I think if any of us here were offered 5-10x their salary to go and work out there for a few years then we'd all likely do it. 2x is different but 5x+ is really hard to turn down.
I'm not upto speed enough on the country to make a judgment about it, but purely from a life changing financial aspect it would be hard to turn down.

Would anyone join Isis for 10x your income, sometimes people need to have some morals, sadly few do.

Saudi Arabia isn't ISIS though is it? That seems a bit extreme to say - its not even in the same country of origin.
I don't get the comparison between playing football in Saudi Arabia and joining an extremist group.

Once 10 years ago and once 4 years ago. Its just a very boring place if you like to have what I consider to be 'fun' but each to their own. I certainly wouldn't contemplate working there for any period of time. The only thing to do is go to the shopping mall. I bet most of these players (like the Saudi's do) will live somewhere like Bahrain or Dubai and jet in when they need to. I wouldn't sell my morals for huge money - money is not everything in life by a long chalk. These are already hugely wealthy people so why do they need more? Avarice is never an attractive trait and certainly not when funded by such a regime. At the same time these guys are taking these massive contracts, Saudi is bombing poverty stricken Yemen... (and the British Government supports Saudi with arms) - that says it all for me. Anyway - just my view - others are available!shabba wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 11:26 amHow long ago did you visit out of interest?

Why 25 rooms?
And if they move in, and count only say, 22 rooms? You think they'll complain?
"HEY..... wwwwait a minute....., I'm being diddled here!"

Can't comment on the broader humanitarian issues relating to Saudi but I am regularly in Riyadh and kinda like it after Dubai. No beers around so I spend evenings eating at very excellent restaurants (with no hangover to follow) or in the gym getting healthier. Seen some cool concerts too and life is much easier now there are not the restrictions going into malls or cinemas &c.
Saudi is modernising but it isn't going to happen overnight. Sport is a part of this. They have signed some big deals to show the league games on TV around the world and give it a couple more years and I think we will see a lot of 'middle quality' players joining. Then things will start to look more interesting...

Out of interest, DB, what do people tend to drink given there is no alcohol out there. I had to stop drinking due to my kidney function which is none alcohol related.
I found (and I was just a normal social drinker), that I wanted to have a drink initially. Then as the months went on, when in social company I wanted a drink with others, but when I then had one, I actually didn’t like it
….. and now a few years down the line, I don’t really find myself “ wanting” an alcoholic drink. I think the body is an amazing machine and it does adapt if given time .
Btw this doesn’t mean I never have an alcoholic drink coz I do on occasions but I’ll admit I don’t really “ enjoy” it like I used to. I also can’t drink certain types of drink mostly what I’d call strong drinks like brandy, red wine, whiskey . I’d probably have a lager shandy.
Anyway that’s just how I’ve dealt with alcohol.

I personall drink less and less now, to the point its maybe 1 drink a month, not really see any value in it as it goes against my gym training etc. I still enjoy a good social drinking session on the rare occasion I get together with friends.
Anyway - Lavia to Chelsea for £58m, and Everton are trying to get Armstrong from Saints too. They'll NEED to spend soon!
ALot of money has been spent on players from the championship this past 2 weeks yet it doesn't seem much of it has been re-invested.

This means we can never be in each others company, Hallam. The reason being , i like people so drunk that they haven’t got the ability to google the BS stories I tell.hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 9:54 amOut of interest, DB, what do people tend to drink given there is no alcohol out there. Ha ha …for you marko, I might make an exception…. And the good thing is I’ll be cheaper to get drunk, as it takes less alcohol to do it now

Unsure, suspect the club are working on deals but its not as plain sailing as they had hoped. I also suspect they are relatively comfy with what we have in the building, and will only try and add 1-2 more (CB, RW/CF).hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 11:16 amReckon it’ll go down to the last few hours for Town to get their targets shabba… what do you reckon?shabba wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 10:57 amI personall drink less and less now, to the point its maybe 1 drink a month, not really see any value in it as it goes against my gym training etc. I still enjoy a good social drinking session on the rare occasion I get together with friends.

Stuart Watson made a good point on the KOA podcast, saying we don't know how close Ipswich are to the Financial rules. They spent 6m+ since Jan and we had strong wages already, which would have gone up with Promotion clauses too.
I think KM is more calm in the market than Ashton, who I feel does enjoy a signing. Hopefully they balance each other out

I do also feel the club have clamped down again on transfer leaks, so places like TWTD and such are quieter on that front now, and any leaks will come from other ends of the deals (i.e the selling club). They seemed to make a point of it recently that its started to hurt us again, giving Hirst and that weird situation of people chasing him around Ipswich as the example.
I predict 2 more arrivals before the window 'slams shut'.

It is crazy, but I recall when UTD where trying to sign a 16 year old from Birmingham who most people hadn’t heard of for £30m…..that would have been a steal looking back now!

Seen something come up on my Google search from a football site that’s states scums Sargent wants to go to Leeds, who are supposedly interested in him. Would laugh my sox off if that happened!
