Away days
Hi all,
Thread for away day talk.
I was suprised we only got 3k away tickets to City, as I thought the rule was 10%.........but then found this
The away allocation in the Premier League varies from stadium to stadium. The rules state that home clubs must offer the visiting team a minimum of 3,000 tickets if their capacity exceeds 30,000. If their capacity is lower, the minimum away allocation in the Premier League must be 10% of the seats in the stadium.
This sucks, I wonder if there is data on how many away fans each club typically allows?

Think it will go past Monday Liz. At least I hope it does as I can’t get mine until Tuesday (on 25 points). How many points do you have? It would be helpful if the club gave a indication of how many fans are in each category so people would at least have some idea on their chances of getting a ticket.hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 6:05 pmSo effectively all the tickets will be sold on Monday…. Oh, I’ve got absolutely no chance Tony. I’ve only got 10points. I haven’t done any away games for a couple of seasons now.. I think my day is Thursday or Friday lol !Shed on tour wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 7:08 pmThink it will go past Monday Liz. At least I hope it does as I can’t get mine until Tuesday (on 25 points). Thanks - like I say, I hope others had lots taken off from the previous season too so that Weds still leaves some. If not, its the TV for me too! Problem is that every game you miss sets you further behind the pack...hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 9:23 pmHere you go Wilf

To be on 30 points you'd need to have been too 20 away games last season (plus 10 points for this and last years membership) - can't imagine that many people fall into that batch - it should at least reach the next level down.

Re: Away days
At the start of this thread I was thinking the system really sucks but having seen it action it looks like the right fans are getting looked after. If that’s the case well done ITFC.
Am I reading this properly or am I missing something ?

Re: Away days
It's a total sham of a system in my view. The same people get the first option tickets every game meaning they build up their points tally even more while others get zero chance.
On a personal level I went to virtually every away game for years, this sh*te system came in just after I had been ill and missed a season of travelling away, sods law all those seasons I attended were disregarded when the new system was introduced and it was taken from the season I missed so all the glory hunters who showed up Two seasons ago lo and behold were in the ideal position to get tkts, it's bollocks.

Re: Away days
The club literally can't win on this.
If they flipped it then you'd get a bunch of fans saying 'I've been to loads of away games in last 2 seasons and I'm not being rewarded' for that with priority now we are in the prem, I was going away to Rotherham and Forrest Green'.

Of course they can't win but the system is clearly flawed, 3000 happy fans and probably 20+ thousand unhappy ones.

i reckon they should do the whole allocation via a ballot...then every one has an equal chance

Re: Away days
I can see why you’re pissed off Mike but League I can’t think of a fairer system. If you look at the last couple of seasons our away support has been phenomenal. Season 2022/23 when we were in League One our average away support was just over 2200 per game and last year in the Championship if was a few over 2400. As we all know not everyone will have gone to every game though there’s probably a hard core of 2000 with another 1000 who may well have gone to a third of the games. If it’s these fans who the scheme favours I don’t see too much wrong in that because if they were excluded they’d have every right to be pissed off. Especially if the spares were distributed to random others via a lottery when some recipients might never have been to an away game before.
The numbers also suggest that 90% of the fans who supported town away last year in the Championship also supported town away in League One the season before with no expectation that the team would be in the Premier League in two years time.
Ok it’s not perfect but I can’t think of anything better of anything fairer.
I don’t think you could ever design a scheme that wouldn’t have a few outliers of a few individuals that would feel aggrieved, but it’s like the old 80/20 rule, if 80% are totally happy you’ve not done much wrong. In this case I expect the % happy will be much higher, maybe as high as 90%.

Hi Andy, I accept there is no easy solution for the club and as an individual I was particularly unlucky with how it panned out. However, I would say only around 20 to 25% of the fan base are happy with the system, most are just accepting of it as they have little choice but it's kinda made it a closed shop for the fortunate Three thousand, add to that I know for a fact those that get first dibbs on tkt sales buy one even if they aren't going to the game and just move it on somewhere, in doing so they still increase their points total thus keeping them in top priority group, it's anything but a fair or good system.

Re: Away days
You certainly make a valid point Mike so maybe we should look at the scheme Leicester City were trying to introduce where the member receives an e-ticket sent to their phone which only the member can use or return to the club by a set date for a face value refund. Although it caused an uproar it solves the problem and means unused tickets get reallocated further down the pecking order rather than passed on or sold.Bluemike wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 8:11 amHi Andy, I accept there is no easy solution for the club and as an individual I was particularly unlucky with how it panned out. I need to get in touch with my nephew to find out the detail or indeed if it’s been implemented but it certainly has the potential to resolve the issue you refer to.
Incidentally Leicester who have similar travelling numbers to Town, maybe a few more, they hold back 2% of their away tickets that go into a ballot. It’s only 60 tickets but it’s better than nowt.
