Re: Premier League - Ipswich Town vs Liverpool FC Preview & Matchday Thread
No disgrace at all - fine lines.
Thought we were brilliant first half, pressed really high and didn't give them a moment on the ball.
Second half, I think we ran out of steam rather than Liverpool moving up a couple of gears - that will only improve as we get fitter.
Like I said, fine lines - had the through ball to Hutchinson been more central rather than pushing him out wide, I think he would have scored for sure. And the Greaves effort, well the ball to him was slightly behind him, otherwise I think he would have directed it better.
So very encouraging all in all. I can understand KM showing loyalty to certain players yesterday, but I think that the team will look very different in 2 or 3 weeks time because I think it was obvious that 3 or 4 of the players that came up with us will struggle at this level.
One last thing - Burns, what was he thinking? In anybody's book his deliberate handball should have been a second yellow - we can't afford to go down to 10 men against any premier team. That kind of moronic thinking needs to be stamped out quickly.

Watched extended highlights again. How on earth did Burns avoid a second yellow? He should have been sent off.

Agreed, don't think anyone would argue about that. Unless the whistle had already been blown and I for one don't know about that.

He certainly was a lucky boy, about the only real thing we had go our way with the ref though, a couple of our early bookings were very harsh.

It's a pity he wasn't sent off we have now lost him for a good while I would think.

It was 38,010 versus Leeds in the cup, Hallam! I was there toohallamblue wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 7:33 amThe atmosphere was DEAFENING. I left PR with my ears literally ringing. It was so loud i coild hardly speak to Mike stood next to me. It was electric.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 10:42 pmFor those who went to the match, what was the atmosphere like? Is that the first time we’ve had 30k plus?
I have a feeling Burns could be out for a while. He’ll probably need surgery on that hamstring.
I was working so I didn’t see the match, but I was following on live texts. Lovely to hear we took it to them in the first half.
Next up Man City! COYB!
When they scored, Town fans as one chanted "BLUE ARRRMY, BLUE ARRRRMY" fir several minutes, which reverberating around the grojnd. Simply awesome support ftomnus in my view. We never stopped singing.
Town have had over 30k in PR on mznhnjccassions before. But over past 20 yrs there were safety restrictions enforced which meant in high demand games we were never able to reach 30k. The biggest attendance ever ( which I was at ( was the FA Cup) game vs Leeds in 1978, which saw 30,010 crammed in.
Yesterday ( and I suspect fir just about every home game now), the attendances will be just over 30k.
Somehow through all of the reconstruction work ( don't forget we've lost a lot of seats to new media positions in the stands), Ashton has managed to worm in more seating for fans so the capacity is now just over 30k.

Oh that was defo a typo there by me Wilf
....yes it was definitely 38,010.... all you could was " faces" no upper body or arms lol I stood in the NS. It took me 45 mins to get up the steps to the back of the Stand.... only to be stood next to a thin Blue line of police that "seperated" Town fans from Leeds fans.
It. Was. Heaving!

I got squashed in the North stand at that game and when leaving to get out was literally swept along with feet off the floor. Proper football

lol, I remember being “ carried” by the crowd surge from the back of the Barclay Stand to the front. That was in the good ole days when Town were allowed to take 7-8k to carrot rood and we stood in the Barclay end with a railing between us and “ them”! 1970’s that was ….
