Inter Milán v Barcelona Champions League Semi-Final

Post by Charnwood » Wed May 07, 2025 3:19 pm

Well if there’s ever been a more entertaining and more exciting game of football than this I’d love to watch it.
I thought the first leg was entertaining but the secongf leg last night took football entertainment to a new level.

For the second time in a week both teams served up a classic with Ineter winning 4-3 on the night 7-6 on aggregate to reach the Champions League final where they will play either Arsenal or PSG, most likely the latter.

In a thriller that will be remembered for years Barcelona trailed 2-0 at half time before scoring 3 without reply with Raphina scoring what looked to be a match winner in the 87 minute, only for Inter to produce a dramatic late equaliser with just 2 mins of added time left when their 37yr centre back Acerbi smashed the ball into the roof of the net to take the tie into extra time. I think this was his first goal for more than 2 years.

There were even more ecstatic scenes to follow when substitute Davide Frattesi won it for Inter in the first half of extra time when he curled a fabulous left footed shot into the bottom corner of the net before climbing a security fence to celebrate in front of Inter’s fans.

Barca’s young star Lamine Yamal almost twice took the tie to penalties but was denied by brilliant saves by Yann Sommer as Inter held on to reach their second Champions League Final in three seasons and what a way to do it after two kegs of incredible drama which saw 13 goals in a tie turned on its head several times.

If you didn’t see it and have time, find it and watch it. This was football at its very best.

Yeah, I watched both legs. It's the best Champion's League semifinal I've ever seen!

Once Real Madrid dropped out kind of lost interest although still maintain a preference over who would ideally wish to win.

Had no idea what the semi scores were or who did what until viewing this here article. Barcelona would have been more of a threat to their final opponents but (Inter Milan) if they can eliminate both Bayern Munich and Barca like they have in successive rounds, guess they got a good enough chance of doing it.

Don't want no Arsenal win, in truth don't particularly like them much and a PSG win this night would be mighty fine. Someone mentioned memorable past feature in competition, first thing that comes to mind Derby County / Real from say 1975, 1976 where the then English Champions ran riot at the Baseball Ground, whipped up a colossal score but somehow lost by a bigger margin in the Spain return fixture. It's one thing you can always recall although don't think it were semi stage, more likely an earlier round. But a standout example all the same.

I watch hardly any Champions League football anymore but those Two legs were superb entertainment, although the defending in both was definitely questionable.

I usually support any team playing against PSG, but I have to admit Inter vs PSG in the final sounds very tasty indeed.

Watched both legs. Thought both games were absolutely brilliant. Although not the same level the Inter equaliser right at the end of normal time immediately took me back to Magilton’s goal against Bolton at Portman Road in the 2nd leg of the 2000 playoff semi-final when it looked like we going out yet again. What a moment that was.

I can’t imagine the Champions League final will get anywhere close to the entertainment and brilliance of the Inter v Barca Semi Final. We can only hope but with no English clubs involved I probably won’t even bother to watch it.

To think Inter really sold Onana to Manchester United for £50M and replaced him with Sommer for £5M from Mönchengladbach.

What an incredible business transaction that was, his two saves in the second half of extra time was worth more to them than his total fee.

Pleased those fuckers got eliminated. Not going to mince words, wanted them removed from competition at soonest opportunity and the French did many a favor with their victory and own continuation. AFC could have had a League and European Cup double victory this season but will finish with zero. Que lastima.

It's kind of good we got an unfamiliar Final line-up in PSG and Inter. No French team has ever won it (the 1993 Marseille win or statistic was expunged) while the Italians always seem to play back seat to more illustrious names from the nation. Inter won in 1965 if correct so guess another win 60 years on ties in fine as an anniversary victory.
