Ending the shytehousery in the penalty box at corners

Post by hallamblue » Mon May 12, 2025 9:22 am

The quickest way to end the ridiculous free for all in the penalty box at corners, is for the refs to blow his whistle and hand out 5-6 yellow cards…. Commence play, fouls re committed, second bookings and OFF. Yes it’ll make the game a 5 a side for a few games but the game is a farce in its current state anyway. Players being banned ( several players in a team) for a game or two will sharpen the mind if they know they will be booked and eventually sent off. This is totally down to the players.

I’m sick to death of watching it. If you want to see how football was played only a few years ago , just watch back some of the older games. There’s none of this coached manual handling of players in the penalty box. And that’s the saddest part of all this, it’s coached into the game!

Yep it's awful, as a kid however I still used to watch it on a Saturday afternoon all those years ago, Les Kellett, Mick McManus, Bert Royle and Vic Faulkner, Rollerball Rocco, you name it. Kent Walton would be turning in his grave.

Yes, first they need to make the rules clear - communicate them, then enforce them - i.e cards/pens etc if that is the case.

It is a joke and needs attention for sure.

The referees have the power completely in their own hands but choose not to ise it. Even as a crap sunday football player years ago, the ref often came into the changing room pre match (usually to ask for a light for his cig 😂) and told us what he would and would not tolerate before he would book/send people off. You have to assume that someone at a senior level does not want it removed from the game as it would be simple to do. Funnily enough, I just watched the challenge against Kieffer Moore in the play off game last week on the preview to tonights game and it was a definite red but that was exactly what goes on at EVERY corner - it is a joke but no-one seems to have the will to fix it 🤷🏻‍♂️ I hate parts of the game today - run by fools 🤡... oh and don't even start me on obstruction 🤬🤬

Why can’t there just be a rule that states no touching before the ball is played? I know, it makes too much sense right?

As I said previously, if I was a ref the first bit of grappling would result in a red card for dangerous play (dangerous because the player wrestled to the ground might graze his knee, get seriously infected, and end up having to have his leg chopped off). Any further grappling to be met with the same punishment.
