With all this talk of the possibility getting Ambrose and Dyer back from Newcastle I was wondering who of our ex-players would people be most keen to see back in a Town shirt?

Unfortunately due to limitations on the size of the poll I was unable to include Martjin Reuser, Richard Wright, John McGreal, Jermaine Wright and of course Tony Dinning!

I voted for Holland, because I doubt Jim will play next year, and even if he did wouldn't be playing enough to be captain, so having Matty back would be great..

However I would also love to see Ambrose, and Herman back here... both fantastic players... also, on Marcus Stewarts form i wouldn't turn him down either!

Well if we can't have Jamma or Dinning, it will have to be Matt Holland then.

Thomas Gaardsoe for me! the best sweeper ive seen play at portman road a true premiership defender! we where told that "He wasnt gowing to be featuring in Joe Royles plans" which was complete bull we where lied to and Gaardsoe was sent down the river. He has captained west brom and played for denmark since he left us would love to see him back at Portman Road!

dinning what a legend!! (he was the guy with the long shorts right :D :D )

would have to holland or marcus bent. any1
see that holland completed his 500th apperance in football (think he went 6 seasons without any sort of spell of missing games throught injury) and has only ever had 4 yellows in his whole career - never for dissent!

It seems, unsurprisingly perhaps, that Holland is emerging as a frontrunner already, however was I alone in not being that upset when he left (I was upset about the fee though!!!)?

I thought he'd actually played quite poorly for us for quite some time before he left (I realise that some of the time he'd played out of position as an emergency centreback).

I'd agree he did, for the months running up to his departure - can't imagine all the upset and potential move which he knew was the on the cards was doing much to provide the right kind of environment though.

That said, he's the model professional for me, very much our own Shearer in that department - he epitomised the attitude I'd like to see in all our players, and was a fantastic representative for the club - I was proud to introduce Ipswich to my kids, with Matts as our captain (not to say Jim isn't doing a sterling job - not sure I'd set him up as the ultimate role model however ;))

Herminator for me. Provided that adrenalin rush to get things going when it was needed and very tough and uncompromising at the back.

Great reply Mork, as you say the man is a model professional and just for that he has my utmost respect, still not sure who I'd most like to see back though.

Whilst I agree that Matt Holland was a great ambassador for our club as a player I never rated him that highly.
Out of the players above if we could have them back at the top of their game then it would have to be Marcus Stewart for me. Not just for his goal scoring but also for his overall awareness.

..I'm going for the Herminator, since the stronger our defence the better the chance of our survival IF we go up that is !!

Joe Royle has a massive task on his hands , if we go up. We have no pace in the midfiled OR defence...BOTH need significant strengthening I fear !!

I meant to add, a lot of the players on the "wish list" although originally very good for us...are now IMHO getting towards the end of their careers and not "ones for the future" too many of them are approaching or past that 30 mark !

I really dont understand everyones choices. Sure Matt Holland was the perfect captain and a contender for Mr Ipswich but was he really an AMAZING player... I, like Shed, dont think so.

The person who is playing at the highest level has to be Dyer. He has played for England in the last 2 world cup qualifiers (which he did extremely well in) and still has ateaslt 4 years of very good football inside him. He is currently playing very well for Newcastle in the league and in Europe.

So for me it would be Dyer, without doubt.

I'd say Ambrose, didnt really get to see much of him, and hes the youngest and potential, so I would say Ambrose, Though I wudnt say no to any of them really!

Every player has got a vote except Marcus Bent, the player who is actually playing in the team that is highest in the top league in England (out of the teams containing ex-Ipswich players)!!!

he wasn't that passionate tho about itfc not as much as the other players and when he played for us he didnt seem 2 give his all. we like players with 100% effort and want 2 play well for the club.

If, and it's a really BIG if, Dyer could leave his attitude at home, he'd be my number one choice.

But tbh I can't see that happening and we don't need that kind of agro in the squad, so realistically for me it would be Holland. Great player and fantastic ambassador for the club and game, I would welcome him back with open arms.

After him I'd take Hreidersonn.
