Realistically- Can Ipswich Ever Make It Back Into The Prem
THIS IS A QUESTION TO ALL REALISTIC TOWN FANS
WHEN IF EVER DO YOU GUYS SEE TOWN MAKING IT BACK INTO THE TOP FLIGHT OF ENGLISH FOOTBALL?

God, is it really that bad? I'm sorry but I am keeping faith in our team. Tradition alone proves that Ipswich will be back in the top flight. We all knew this would be a transitional year. But, I think we will be significantly stronger next season. Look at how many new players we have in the first team. It will take at least a season for them to even begin to gel. There's one thing I do know for sure though...booing our own players is not very productive at all. It's time for that nonsense to stop. If you can't be patience enough to see this young team grow, then don't even bother going to the games. You should know by now that being an Ipswich fan is like riding a roller coaster. There are ups and downs. Trust me...I am not an optimist, but I am a realist. Let's all take a deep breath and try to get through this rebuilding process together.

Stranger things have happened to be honest, look at Charlton 15 years or so ago, they didn't even have a home ground they had to share with Palace and then West Ham and look at them now.
Portsmouth were also in the doldrums until Redknapp unexpectantly got them up as Champions (people had them down for mid-table at best) and they've stayed their since.
Teams fortunes can turn around pretty quickly, although of course they can go the other way as well (look at Leeds, Champions League semi finalists to 2nd Division(Championship) midtable in about 4 seasons).

We need money, and a 5 year plan - thats the most realistic chance we have at this point. Without money, a 10 year plan might not even get it done.wilkoitfc wrote:THIS IS A QUESTION TO ALL REALISTIC TOWN FANS

Without serious investment, doesn't look likely.

I think a lot of people have mentioned it but football is a game in which a teams fortunes can turn around very quickly. I agree that it is possible (and im sure there are plenty of examples, portsmouth, charlton etc) for a team to quickly get out of a bad position and back in the prem. However it is also possible to go the other way. (eg Leeds, Notts Forest). Personally the current team, squad and financial situation means that i cant see us returning to the premiership any time soon, not within the next 3 seasons anyway. It could happen but not without a dramatic trnaround which is no the most likely thing to happen. I think a few years to regroup sort out the monetry side of things and with the right signings etc we could be back in the top flight. We could however still quite easily be in league 1. But hey thats football.

I remember in the late 1980's during the days of Duncan that I never expected to see Ipswich play in the top flight again and would certainly never see them in Europe again. As everyone knows we've been in the Premiership twice since them and played in Europe.
One of the things that make our club a little bit different is that we always bounce back, eventually. Things don't look too hopeful at the moment, but yes i think we can get back to the top flight, but it may be another 2 or 3 years before we can mount the challenge.

I was slightly too young to see Robson's great team in Europe and so thought I'd missed my chance to ever see Town in Europe but of course as we now know Burley gave me that chance again and I got to see Town in 4 home and 2 away UEFA cup matches...something I never thought would happen!
Things may look dark at the moment but things can always turn around, we need to concentrate on winning one match at a time, confidence is a magical thing that can transform a poor team into a great one almost overnight.

You have hit the nail on the head there Toby. I really don't think we are confident any more. The fans don't seem to get behind the team, even the North Stand have been quiet recently, apart from the hecklers about Sheepshanks. The times the crowd are noisy, the players seem to respond.
Lets get behind the lads. We can beat Brighton tomorrow.

Someone fetch the man his hat and coat!!!
3 or 4 wins on the bounce and we will forget the last month - that is the way of football.
Don't expect too much and you will be pleasantly surprised - expect it all and you will find yourself on here every week moaning about how bad it is.
So - yes we will be back in the top flight again, but no I will not put a time frame on it, then when it happens I can be pleasantly surprised.
