If Joe goes who should we get?

Post by toby » Tue Nov 29, 2005 3:15 pm

I've just been thinking about this and trying to think about who, realistically, we could tempt to come to Portman Road and I've come up with one name that I think could really turn us around...

Peter Taylor.

Now before people start saying how sh*t he was at Leicester just look at what he's done at teams where he's not been able to spend any money (England U'21's, Leicester before promotion to the Premiership, Hull city).

He has a proven track record of bringing out the best in young players and could just prove to have the combination of experience, motivation and ambition to bring us out of our malaise.

The one sticking point though is would he come?

What do people reckon? Would you want him and do you reckon we could get him?

sounds good to me Toby but we are all living in cloud cuckoo land if we think mr royle will simply pack his bags and say thanks but I gave it a go.We have joe for as long as he wants to stay....you watch sheepy give him an extention on the new contract next year
Peter Taylor has a good track record but I dont believe even he would touch us with an elongated bargepole.

Erm...didn't he and Gianluca Vialli completely f**k up Watford?

He'd come in on relatively big wages AND has very little managerial experience, to be honest I can't really see any plus points!

Well I'm kind of hoping that he'll take the Portsmouth (don't laugh he's apparently on their short list!) or Sheff.Utd (more likely if Colin Wanker goes to Pompey). I realise that he's unlikely to just "walk away".

Boss Joe Royle has refuted suggestions that he might be being lined up by Sheffield United as a replacement for Neil Warnock. The Blades boss is favourite for the vacant manager's position at Portsmouth.

Royle said he was unaware of the rumour: "I don't know anything about it."

you never know! :o

Peter Taylor would be an excellent manager for us - he has a very good England U21 record I think ....but in reality I think we our financial situation and a need to keep as much continuity as possible it would probably be given to ...Jim Magilton !!

Yes, in the unlikely event I can see that too HB. Even if only for the rest of the season.

I don't think talk of Magilton is right at this stage. If jim is to become the next ITFC boss then he will need guidance from a senior person. Bobby RObson is still available and has more than enough experience.

Matching Bobby and Jim for 2 years while Jim learns the trade would benefit everyone at the club. The fans would support a robson revolution, especially knowing that Jim would be following him.

Peter Taylor would be an excellent choice IMO. I think Leicester were doomed before he took over. Martin O Neil had taken them as far as he could, then when he left so did their biggest assets. Peter Taylors track record is awesome, and he would be pushing the youth in our side. Although would you trade in the success he has had at Hull for a side like ours???

Does Magilton even have all his coaching qualificatons yet? I know he's been looking that way but im not sure he has passed all the courses yet.

I think a period of him as assistant manager, learning from experianced manager could be good.

In dream world what about Mogga from Hibs.

I think if we finnish bottom half of the table this season, the only way to keep a decent season ticket sales up would be to get rid of Royle and install a well known manager who the fans would love to see at Portman Road.

So that would be a short list of;

Bobby Robson with Magilton learning his trade from Bobby
Tony Mowbray & Mark Venus
Terry Butcher
Peter Taylor

Anyone else and its just not worth it.

I don't think it is a question of who we would like but who would be prepared to come to the club in it's present state.

You are right essexgirl - who would really want to come here at the moment. However it is up to the board if/when the time comes to make sure that they sign someone who will get the fans united behind the club. The fans need a hero and someone who will instill faith that better times lay ahead!!

I think Taylor would be a great choice.

Tony Mowbray would be an excellent choice.

No to Robson (don't bring back a legend, can't possibly meet expectations)
No to Magilton
would rather see Burley back before those two...

We need a guy proven in this division so why not ask Scumberland if they have had enough of Mick McCarthy.
Cause he cant do it in the big boys league and he seems to get players playing good in this league from lower divisions?
A new bit of blood on the managers front is certainly an option for sure now, just a quicki never been a Joe man myself any way-SORRY!!
