I'd no idea you were one of his fans.

Ps: i don't think Mike and I will fall out. Not on my part anyway. As I see it we just have a difference in opinion on Sean St Ledger's suitability for Ipswich Town, and on the viability of short term contracts in general.
I guess we can always have a hug and a pint sometime later in the season and carry on the debate face to face.

Re: Sean St Ledger
I really dont get where you are coming from at all, the staying on here all day and night had nothing to do with your good self but i know for a fact some are on here at ridiculous times of the day and night, I cant do that. Is it wrong to post a lot on here then ? Cus I can sure as hell f*ck off with St.Ledger if you would prefer ? It really wouldnt bother me one bit to be honest. I still stand by my original point that you seem very anti lately and I merely asked the question.
We also need to get some facts right, St.Ledger was on the verge of coming here but it was Leicester who stopped the deal going through because of some injury problems that showed up at the last minute, it was not the player that pulled out at all.
I also take it that going on the fact you think short term deals are pissing money down the toilet and a waste of time you felt the same about Jonny Williams ?
I seem to recall it was he who rejected a move to Ipswich a few years back not the other way round.
We weren't good enough for him then, why should we want him now. The only reason it feels good to him to pull on a Town shirt now is because no-one else want him.
f*ck off St Ledger is what I say.
in my opinion we've just chucked money down the toilet like we so often do with our short term deals, it's almost as if we have money to burn. It will take St Ledger till the end of December to get match fit.
Maybe McCarthy felt sorry for him and thought he needed some money.
I can't believe some of the crap players we get associated with. Is it me, or have I got it wrong, and we're just not as good as I think we are.
They are hardly positive comments are they, anyone would think we were bottom. I am not keen on Hunt or St. Ledger but christ lets get them in the door first, sammon was given the same kind of welcome by me too but he has done ok, sometimes new surroundings make a difference. How inspiring.

Re: Sean St Ledger
You seem to be going to a lot of trouble trying to justify your point and seem to be having to hang all your evidence on the one subject of short term loans which we clearly disagree on.
If I had as much time to waste as you I'm sure I could double and and treble the number of examples of positive posts in support of Mick McCarthy and I'm a little lost as to why you want to do battle on a matter which is so trivial.
..and on the subject of Jonny Williams I didn't realise he was a short term deal, I was always under the impression he was on a 93 day loan deal which in my opinion, other than in an emergency, is the shortest term a player is of any real use in term of becoming a member of the team.

Re: Sean St Ledger
According to MM in today's EADT St Ledger is looking fit and after playing for the U21's on Monday will turn out again for them tonight, before being (quote) 'ready to go'.Charnwood wrote:derick_ipsw wrote:Wrong again Charney he has signed until the end of December.Charnwood wrote:Give a wide berth is what I think. According to many we have a great dressing room at the moment, let's keep it that way.
I like Ashfords suggestion about MacAuley, he would be a great signing for us.

As always I'm more than happy to be proved wrong especially if it's for the good of the team.

Re: Sean St Ledger
Nice to be proved right at least once in 2014. His short term loan was indeed a complete waste of money except for topping up St Ledgers bank balance to cover his Christmas expenditure. I'm not at all unhappy about seeing him off the payroll and still don't understand why we needed to sign him.
What we will never know is if it was MM who didn't want to extend the loan or if maybe it was St Ledger who didn't want to stay?

I dont see how you have been proved right, it was for cover ? Are you disappointed that we didnt get some injuries then so he could play ? Also how much were we paying him then ?

Re: Sean St Ledger
I thought Mick had suggested that we have adequate cover with Tommy Smith, Matt Clarke and Elliott Hewitt who is on loan recall providing cover for Parr, Chambers, Berra & Mings which is exactly the same position as we were in when St Ledger was signed.
Surely if St Ledger was as good as he used to be he would have forced himself into the side or at the very least earned himself a longer contract because we still have the same risk of picking up injuries going forward as we did when he arrived.
As for his costs, I'd estimate these to have been in the region of £30k for the month all inclusive which in my opinion was a waste of money.

Re: Sean St Ledger
Not sure how you can come up with any figure regarding the cost if having him here. I seriously doubt it would be anywhere near 30k though. Christ, we dont pay our strikers that.

Re: Sean St Ledger
The average players wage in the Championship last season was £486,000 which equates to £40k a month. I can't imagine St Ledger would come much cheaper than 70% of average wages plus agents fees and players expenses.
Of course I have no inside knowledge on actual costs Liz, I only came up with an estimated figure because Mike asked me to in an earlier post.
How much do you think our strikers earn Liz, surely they must be somewhere close to the league average which includes lots of young players and squad players.

Re: Sean St Ledger
Its really hard to estimate because we have really made significant cut backs over last 2 seasons. The backroom has been cut back to the bone. That I do know, for certain. I suppose thinking about it senior players like Didsy, Murph, Berra , Chambo must all be on around 9-10k per week. So yes, thats easily 30-40k a month for the top players with us. But our youngsters will be on a lot less ( as with any job I suppose).

I am sure I read somewhere a fair while back that no Town player was now on anything above 6-7K per week ??

Re: Sean St Ledger
If that's true Mike and the average wage in The Championship is over £9kpw (although this may include bonuses), we may struggle to hold onto some of our better players who will become higher profile given our current position in the league table.
I hope this doesn't happen but their low pay compared to others could become a problem.
