Billy Sharp on loan?

Town trying to get Billy on loan after signing Freddie. Nice choice of forwards if we get him.

It appears these talks are still ongoing with Leeds United whilst Town are supposed to be looking for a loan deal, Leeds would prefer a permanent transfer.

I guess this could go on till the end of the transfer window with Leeds waiting for someone to stump up with the money to buy him and if they don't we may still get him on loan.

I'd be quite happy to see him arrive at a Portman Road in either capacity as I've always thought he'd be a good fit at Ipswich.

Various efforts to sign him in the past having come to nought, if MM can get a deal done - either perm or loan - am sure he and TC a will get best out of him again. Therefore, would be a good addition who, together with Freddie Sears, tick both numerical and quality boxes.

Of course there's an emotional link between BS and Town fans, going back to the standing ovation he received here following the tragic death of his baby son. It meant a lot to him at the time, and it might help tip the balance in his decision making.

Quality midfield playmaker next please Mick!

He's lost his way a bit since his prominent Doncaster and Scunthorpe days, but I'd still be delighted to sign him, loan or permanently! We can get him back at his best.

A couple of years ago I would have loved this but I cant help but think he is a bit of a yesterday man nowadays, he really should have come here when we first tried to sign him, his career would not be as it is now if he had done so. If he does come he may just reignite and take off which can only be good for us, at his best he is a very good player.

Sometimes players just need a fresh start. The prospect of Sharp and Sears in our squad is mouthwatering to say the least. However im getting a tad worried about the number of players either ill or injured in our squad right now. Even those returning will not be firing on all cylinders. Saturday's game vs Millwall is a must win game. Simple as that.

Boss Mick McCarthy was keeping typically tight-lipped when quizzed on the Blues’ move for Leeds United striker Billy Sharp.

Town and Leeds are understood to be in talks regarding Sharp with the Blues keen to take the striker on loan but the Whites wanting to offload the former Sheffield United, Doncaster and Southampton man on a permanent basis.

Asked about reports of his interest in Sharp, McCarthy said: “Have I said anything to you about Billy Sharp?

“Where’s the story come from then? Unless I said we were doing something with him, then I wouldn’t comment on it because he’s Leeds’ player, he’s not my player.

“That’s generally the case, you ask me about players all the time and I say ‘Is he one of mine?’. ‘No’, well, I don’t talk about him. That’s exactly the same as this.”

McCarthy confirmed that he is close to confirming the signing of a back-up goalkeeper on loan but wouldn’t be drawn on their identity: “I can tell you who it is, but I’m not going to. The deal is agreed.”

That sounds to me like the Sharp deal will happen and I wonder who the keeper is that is coming in ?

I'm sure I heard it was Lewis Price. Could be wrong obviously.

Price went to someone else yesterday I believe.

Crawley Town have re-signed Crystal Palace goalkeeper Lewis Price on loan until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old Wales international had a spell with the League One strugglers earlier this season, making four appearances for the West Sussex club.

"I have worked with him before and know his capabilities," Crawley interim manager Dean Saunders said.

"He knows the club and how we work so it should be relatively straightforward for him to step back into things."

Saunders was forced to sign another keeper as Brian Jensen, Crawley's only senior stopper, is a doubt for Saturday's trip to Rochdale because of a thumb injury.

"It's been a very hectic last 24 hours trying to sort the goalkeeping situation out but we're delighted to have Lewis back with us," Saunders told the club website.

Price has won 11 international caps for Wales, with the most recent of those coming in October 2012.

The former Ipswich and Derby stopper has featured 16 times for the Eagles since moving to Selhurst Park in 2010.
just found it.

MM remaining typically deadpan when asked about progress on BS move on local radio. Almost 'Who the f*ck is Billy Sharp? Have you ever heard me speak about him?!' Great stuff, Mick. We'll all look forward to his arrival then (together, of course, with Mr Williams!)

He did say GK cover is on the way but, again, no name yet. Any guesses?

So we have McG, Murph, Freddy and perhaps I should add Hunt to that list - though despite scoring 3 already whilst at Town, I am yet to be convinced. Thats 5 strikers. Billy Sharp would be excess to requirements. Does that mean someone is on the way out? The fact the BS deal has stalled could be because McG was about to be sold but then got injured on Wednesday. Its rare to buy an injured player just incase its more serious than meets the eye.

I would still take that with a pinch of salt as Redfearn will have no say in it whatsoever.

Agreed. I still think that something may come of this before the end of January.

Whilst I can't see it happening I think he would be a brilliant addition to the squad. He's still only 28 and I would have every confidence in the McCarthy / Connor team turning round his career.

According to this mornings Yorkshire Post the deal isn't dead yet, see the attached link;

Would imagine that getting Paul Taylor off of the wage bill would also be amongst the dice in play?

Yep. I think we'll see Sharp here before the month is out. I'm sure his agent is pushing for it since I guess he would expect to start alongside Murph whilst McG is injured so the longer the deal takes to go through the shorter his chance to make his mark and hold down a place.

Strongly in Sharp's interest to get down to PR asap.

As Bluemike has said the manager doesn't always have the final say these days especially when an expensive asset isn't paying his way. The Leeds United owners having paid Southampton£600k to cancel his contract and paying the player decent wages may see Towns offer as a way of recovering some of their so far wasted outlay, especially if the manager chooses not to use him.

This could be a great bit of business for Town although it could also lead to McGoldricks exit if a decent offer came in for him.

I am a little bit confused with all this McGoldrick injury stuff, I have read MM saying he could be available Wednesday and yet others are reading out for weeks etc and in that link to The Yorkshire Post it says a serious injury concern so what is the actual situation, I tend to err towards what our manager says.
