No mobiles. No internet therefore Chris Baker had to make 'trips' between dugout and the dressing room to check results.

Mentally destroying 90 minutes where we needed a result. Full time was approaching. Relegation seemed certain. And then all of sudden my ceefax shows that Chelsea got a 3rd goal against Sheffield Utd. Mark Stein what a hero he was. Couldn't believe it.

Don't want a similar horror next week as it seems unlikely Wigan is going to have motivation to play against Brentford if their relegation is confirmed on Tuesday.

Any memories from that day?

I wasnt there mach but I remember it only too well, seeing the goalflash come up on the TV screen when Stein scored and was dancing around the house in utter disbelief, as you say it is agonising in the extreme and mentally destroying it was certainly was.

I so hoped to be looking forward to a party atmosphere at Blackburn next weekend but instead of a nice relaxed and fun mood we are faced with a repeat of that 1994 experience, I really don't want to be travelling all that way home having missed out on the play offs by Goal Difference but that is a very real possibility unless we can secure the point we need.

This team have defied the odds all season and for the most part they haven't really let us down at all so we have to believe the boys can put in one last big performance to get us over the line, to be honest we deserve it and should we get it we will be the team going into the play off lottery with some momentum and decent form.

That was a day that will live forever although events seem a little hazy now. Not only Ipswich getting the result they needed with a surprise no score draw at league runners-up Blackburn, but the mayhem at Everton with that famous game with Wimbledon and only a Hans Segers "error" from a relegation. Crazy f**king afternoon, it was unreal. How we survived that afternoon I'll never know.

Hope for another 0 - 0 score at Blackburn this time to get us the result we need.

Seen a re-run of the game many times and there were one or two questionable moments but don't believe the match officials were involved in any wrong behavior. Segers was part of an Asian betting syndicate a year or two later involving other recognized names but in the end charges were dropped. Just a day like any other where incidents occured that raised a certain level of debate. It's interesting however to see another example of where a manager does an excellent job at Norwich and fails elsewhere.

If only, but there should have been an inquiry. My boss at the time and his son were avid Evertonians and even they conceded something wasnt right.
