Town after McShane ?

Post by Bluemike » Sun May 31, 2015 11:51 am

Town boss Mick McCarthy is keen on signing released Hull City defender Paul McShane, according a number of this morning’s tabloids.

McShane, 29, left the Tigers following last week's relegation from the Premier League and McCarthy is claimed to view him as someone who could come in at right-back to allow skipper Luke Chambers to move to the centre of the defence.

Capped 31 times by Ireland, McShane joined Manchester United as a youngster and was part of the side which won the FA Youth Cup in 2002/03 but left Old Trafford without making a senior appearance.

Having spent time on loan at Walsall and Brighton, the Kilpedder-born full-back or centre-half moved on to West Brom in 2006 and then Roy Keane’s Sunderland a year later for an initial £1.5 million fee.

The 5ft 11in tall defender joined Hull on loan in the summer of 2008 and made the move permanent a year later, subsequently spending time on loan at Barnsley and Crystal Palace. McShane made 119 starts and 17 sub appearances for the Tigers, scoring five goals.

A decent enough player and solid defender but for me it is another CB potentially playing at RB ???? Just don't see the point of it.

I actually like this transfer target. MsShane at 5'11" is probably decent in the air, and he will have invaluable experience playing in the prem. He also has a few Int'l Caps. Hull's goal difference was the best out of the last six even though they were still relegated. I'm not sure MM is that big on wing-backs anyway, otherwise we would have seen a bit more experimentation. I suppose Mings could be considered a wing-back to a degree, but only for lack of proper wingers in the squad.

At least he's Irish so he'd be sure to fit in well.

He is a good good player and Hull fans didn't want him to be released. Sign him up.

Didn't he have advanced talks at PR when PJ was in charge, or maybe RK?

Yes he did. I remember because the thread turned into a "Lovejoy" discussion. Think it was my fault.
