Re: Young Bishop could be in big trouble.
The thing that really concerns me is that a kid his age, and a professional, ta boot, is seemingly involved in betting /gambling!!
Id say the signs for him are not good for the future, if he is already going down that pathway.

It doesn't even say what he's done, let's at least wait for that before making judgements.

It doesnt matter, it clearly states all betting is not allowed and to be up on "several charges" doesnt exactly sound like this could be a mistake.

I'm not saying it's a mistake, I just don't think it's a big deal. It was probably just some harmless betting that he thought he would get away with, but will know better from now on. He's only 18 after all.

Let's just hope it was bets on Matches that didn't involve Ipswich.

Oh my days I can only think this is bad news. All footballers know you can't bet on any games of football and a breach of this could mean suspension from football.
Depending on how serious the offenses are I can't really comment, either way you can't condone it and I fear this worst as it's not like many footballers are charged with this offense especially a young up and coming high profile player so they could make an example of him...

I sincerely hope you are right, this does nothing but bad, even if it is minor he will be tarnished with the stigma of it all, hot on the heels of Chopra we get this, ITFC will soon get a reputation for having a gambling culture, and worse still any potential big move in the future could even be put in doubt if people think he has gambling issues.J4ck22 wrote:I'm not saying it's a mistake, I just don't think it's a big deal. I really do hope this is something and nothing but even if it is some damage could already have been done.

Im not sure Id buy that Jack. Bish has been at the Club long enough to know the professional standards required - and what happens when they get involved in that world and cant control it.... aka CHOPRA!
If that isn't a lesson to him , then there is frankly no hope for him. I hope the FA AND Town, give him a serious sharp rebuke /lesson for this and pull him up short , now, before its too late. If your jobs stated its against he rules to gamble and you went and did that very thing , several times over, Id say that's Gross Misconduct , wouldnt you ?
Its a very slippery slope for a kid with a fair amount of money and a lot of time on his hands after the training has all been done and dusted for the day.
I really, really hope he learns from this.

Re: Young Bishop could be in big trouble.
Is this just an excuse for us to sell him on as maybe a problem in the future?? If it is him just being naive, as a 18yo lad he may get lucky, it may just sort him out. I like the lad, he needs a slap but hope the FA do not try to destroy him, we all make mistakes, just hope he learns from it.

There's not much to go on, can someone elaborate what the charges relate to. Could be anything from a trip to Vegas to Walthamstow Dogs track. Guessing it's more likely betting on games as others have alluded to but even at 18 he should be a responsible adult and of an age to know better. Guess McCarthy will know how to handle the situation.

Managers disciplinary meeting.
Mick McCarthy voice:
"Right, Teddy...., I've heard about all this gambling nonsense. What's with ye lad? Are ye bonkers or what? I want no more of this from the players at the club. At your age ye should be concentrating on yer game, getting fitter and understanding the game better. Well, ye'll probably be fined , but use this as a life lesson ok? Right then, that was a good training session today, proud of ye. Ok, I'll see you tomorrow. On yer way home, swing by Hills lad , put a 20quid double on Trap 6 in the 2:38 at Crayford and Dnipro to score first tonight."

Re: Young Bishop could be in big trouble.
'Multiple breaches' hardly suggests harmless betting does it? Also, I'm pretty certain the football club drill the do's and don'ts into players of tbe consequences of illegal betting, in which case the lad is an idiot.hallamblue wrote:J4ck22 wrote:I'm not saying it's a mistake, I just don't think it's a big deal. Well lucky for us and Bishop himself just slap on the wrist with a £3,000 fine, key being no suspension.
Hope he learns from it as could quite easily been a ban in all honesty....

Re: Young Bishop could be in big trouble.
Im actually more concerned that a kid his age was gambling on what was apparently a very regular basis. That is potentially the thin end of the wedge!

Re: Young Bishop could be in big trouble.
Gambling is a major problem with many youngsters these days and needs and the industry needs far stricter regulation and education especially for under 21's. At least young Bishop can afford to be a mug and if he's not intelligent enough to see the dangers he'll risk ending up on the same financial scrap heap that many professional footballers end up on and eventually become bankrupt, meanwhile the clever astute players who steer clear of the temptation of gambling end up financially secure for the rest of their lives.

Re: Young Bishop could be in big trouble.
Pretty much every 18 year old interested in football has at least dabbled in betting in this day and age. I did (I don't anymore because I'm crap), I know many, many others who do and it isn't a major problem. As I suggested, it looks like it was just some harmless betting between mates, which can be good fun and it certainly doesn't lead to extreme cases of addiction, so comparing him to Chopra or suggesting he has a problem is just absurd. He made a mistake, he was appropriately punished, we'll most likely never hear about it again so please let's just move on.

Re: Young Bishop could be in big trouble.
It's only absurd if it is nipped in the bud and stopped before it becomes a Chopra like problem, hopefully this is the case here.
