Yes, I was starting to think it was only me that couldnt see what all the fuss is about.
To be fair I can't see what all or any fuss is about in the men's team either.

We are doing well so it is enjoyable to watch, but it is a different game and should be viewed on its merits and not compared.

I like watching my lads school team play and it is on many occasions a better watch than a top flight game - in its own way.

The under 21 men's team has under achieved so many times including this year .
These kids are supposed to be the future of English soccer. If they can't perform now or disappoint, what's that going to mean in the years to come ? Believe Southgate is the manager so maybe a change of leadership could be the way ahead.

The womens squad has done well to get to where they find themselves and a win over the host nation will be a boost for morale so wish them well in their future endeavors.
Its not the players who should be blamed its the cosching staff and managers. England under 21 team is never the strongest squad available, too many play in first yeam or sit on the bench. They should be left well alone and all progress together to an england first team where they are used to playing together .

The part about watching it on its merits and not compared is what I was trying to say also, when I was talking about MLS and Championship et al.

Very interesting match between US and Germany last night. US attacking in first half, but no goals. In second half, Germany all over US and got a PK but missed. US scored on a PK a couple minutes later and that sealed the deal with a late goal from O Hara to ice it. Really good match.

Engerland today, interesting to see how they fare against Japan. England was awful three years ago in the Olympics, bully to them for what they have done this year.

Gutted for that poor girl. It was a hell of a game, England played so above what was expected of them. Didnt deserve that one, and really hard to blame Bassett seeing how if she let it go it was probably a goal anyway. Say what you will about girls playing, these tournaments are always compelling for good and bad.

US owes Japan one

Unbelievable really.

They were the better side and made the better chances. To be undone by a fluke og is really cruel.

Let's hope they can get back on track and turn over the Germans for third spot.

The United States mens squad did us proud last summer, and now once again their female counterparts are but one game away from a glory. Would be a great honor to once again take the World Championship

Pity for the English, they did well and the girls did themselves proud, probably went a lot futher than many had expected.

Read the deciding effort was an own goal from a player called Bassett - but guess it takes Allsorts

Lol very sharp.

yes pity about England. But they seem to have caught their male counterparts problem. Dodgy penalties, og's and copious missed chances.

Bassett was the centre half and captain I believe.

They will have to wait another four years for another shot at glory. As with the men, it will mean just as much to them. Just because it's the womens game doesn't make it any less important. Hell they even go further than the mens team can manage so they deserve some recognition.

Well done to the lionesses. Certainly have improved since 2011 and 2012, they have raised awareness in England of the women's game, and are positive role models for young girls.

Alot of people seem intent on comparing them to the mens game, I will say one of the differences I saw in the two World Cups were the women played with passion.

USA v Japan tonight...looking forward to it.

Yeah first win over Germany, they celebrated like they won the world cup by winning that bronze medal finish 3rd. Don't think you would see in the men's game players celebrating finishing 3rd

But still decent way to go out I guess.

With the men just getting out of the group stages is a reason to celebrate. Well done to the girls on getting so far in the tournament.

Not trying to be a homer Hallam, but I don't think England would have beaten the US for the Cup. Odds would have been about 70% US win. Not that I dont like what the LIonesses have achieved in this tournament as I think I have stated above, but they arent on the level that the US is on yet.

Think it would have been a big ask for them to beat the U.S.A in the final if they had got through against Japan although as we all know anything can happen on the day in football (as Chelsea found out against Bradford).

Really can't understand why some people are trying to knock what the England team achieved at this tournament. I'm one of these people who likes to see our country be successful at anything even if it is at the world tiddlywinks championships!

Our Lionesses have done superbly and credit MUST be given to them. They have exceeded above and beyond and this can only be good for our country. They came back from a devastating way to go out of a semi final and showed a passion I haven't seen in a England football team in a while.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the watching the games I've seen and I'll be routing for USA tonight.

Have to admit I love the commentator at the end of our game......."England are getting medals......Germany aren't"

Good post Foxy, one can easily say the US, England, Japan and Australian teams did themselves proud.

A friend of mine was wondering why the Japanese goalie was so far off her line, and I said, "Who thought she would shoot it from 54 freaking yards away??" In 2011, it seemed that God somehow ordained Japan was going to win after that tsunami. This year, the US team was having none of it.

Keeper was where she should have been. Like you said who knew!

Also to be fair if she had been on the taller side of being a midget she we would have got a bigger hand on it and saved it.

Amazing first 16 minutes and a very entertaining game overall.

Well done USA.
