Douglas is a leader, with loads of experience and i think a box to box type of player, eho can score goals. Priceless aquistion nin my book, and probably for free. Cant knock it ,can you.
Sadly, a few over on TWTD are knocking it - no change there, then! Fortunately, most folk with at least one glowing brain cell back MM's judgement, rather than that of a small bunch of knockers (and I do mean moaners!) on this one.

Does this mean the money MM has saved on the freebies he is going to spend on defence? We need some quality added to this area and we are looking great :-)

Giles Coke and Larsen Touré have now been confirmed as our latest two signings:

With Berra being out at Brentford I think it would be foolish to play him today however so Smith and Chambo in today in readiness for next week, after that my starting 11 at Brentford would probably be something like this :-

.......................Bialkowski..........................

Parr...........Chambers.....Smith..........Knudsen

Niles..........Skuse........Bishop..........Fraser

..............Murphy.......Pitman......................

Subs :- Gerken Yorwerth McGoldrick Sears Bru

Obviously Berra would be back in for the following week with Smith making way and Tabby or someone on the bench for yorwerth. Clearly there is a fair few players who will be struggling to even make the bench so I don't go along with the theory that we are short on numbers.

That all depends on how TS plays against Brentford. If he plays a blinder then I don't see how he could be left out for the next game. I know we've had this discussion about Berra and TS before and our opinions completely differ - for me Berra is the squad player. Be interesting to see how it pans out ;)
You know what Rossi I would love to see Tommy have the season of his life, I would love to be so wrong about the guy, unfortunatley there are many who view him as I do, that is not to say i am correct but the guy has his critics and I hope he rams it down our throats.

More than happy with Dougie.
MC/TC can't fault them. They know what we need.
It was our frail squad in the early 80's that prevented more championships.

Anyone seen the reported rejected bid figure for this Scottish lad, if it is indeed 250k, this has got to be a joke surely? If not, come on guys, put a decent offer in otherwise we will lose out to pennypinching.

By all accounts they want double that which in fairness does not sound OTT for the lad, I suppose Town are trying to spend as little as possible to seal the deal and why not ? I do wonder how much we actually want him though, I don't think we will break the bank for a relatively untried player from Scotland.

Agreed. Although it's often disappointing to miss out on any player for which a bid has been lodged, MM/ME are clearly not going to be forced to pay over the odds - although there's always room for constructive negotiation. Dallas from Brentford is a recent case in point.

We apparently bid £1M which, with wages etc, was what we presumably believed was a fair price. In the event he went to Leeds for £1.25M - not a vast difference, but clearly a price ME was not prepared to match or better. If we do land McGhee, it will be interesting to see the final fee.

I think the thing with Dallas is that yes we were interested but with us having a few wide players etc he wasn't seen as a must sign player and as such the 1 million was the limit, this kid could well be seen as more of a neccessity given where he plays and our pursuit may intensify as long as the price is again within our remit.

Given the fee we picked up for Mingsy, £500k sounds cheap for Jordon McGee who is clearly a very talented player for a 19yr old.

Hearts know we have some cash in the coffers and the fee appears to be very reasonable.

I just hope we don't miss out for the sake of a few grand which we clearly have, and if the player continues to develop there's nothing but upside to this deal if and when he moves on.

Not quite sure what the glamour is with this guy , he is not first choice at hearts and i doubt many have even actually seen him play much if at all ???..some saying whats £250,000 , well as some body pointed out on TWTD about 15 members of staff at ITFC (if not more) annual wage that's how much , so if MM or ME only wants to pay 250k for a potential prospect i,m OK with that..decent CV for the guy but it,s all up north and under 18,s and so on...and loads of these guys never end up playing professional football...would be interested to see if any truth in the Stearman link at what 27 / 28 a much better buy imo even for a fee as you know what you a buying as opposed to 1/2 mil for a player that might or might not be the real deal.

Agree with you Larry, like I said the other day, why pay 500k when you can get him for say 300k?? Some fans talk about a quarter of a million like it is loose change, it's easy to do that when it ain't your money. I do think this lad must have something about him purely by the teams who have been linked with him, the only thing I don't agree with is Stearman being a better buy, not for 1.5 million anyway, after all Stearman is a Centre back in reality just like Chambers, McPhee is equally adept playing either RB or CB.

Yeah i get what you are saying and he might be decent in both positions , but how good ?? who has seen him play...yes linked with clubs but that does not mean he will fill his viewed potential , Stearman on the other hand is a solid good CB and a better RB than Chambers imo and he fits MM bill to a tee, and you know what you are buying without question with him..but on saying that 1.5 M is steep.

Must not grumble though...a good job has been done so far in squad additions...still wondering about Toure though...but a free so lets see.!!..got my tickets for the first 3 home games as on leave now.!!

Yes Toure is kind of slipping under the radar somewhat, I liked MM's comment the other day that he is simply getting better & better in training which bodes well.

Knowing how MM operates - and we surely do by now - there's not a cat in hell's chance that he would ask ME to spend significantly above what he believed a player was worth. Having stated that he is seeking to bring in a versatile defender - presumably into the 1st team - then we should be certain that MM/TC will have done their homework throughly, and not be taking a punt on an 'unknown' quantity - they are better informed than us! If that individual is McGhee, and MM believes he will strengthen the squad significantly and enhance our promotion chances, then I would suggest that up to £500K may be a reasonable investment. Saving over the Stearman option - £1M

I get the feeling we are haggling with Hearts over the payment staged installments. Bet he's a Town player by next week.
