Another dodgy keeper?
I've just read that former Reading keeper Jonathan Henly has spent the week on trial at Portman Road.
Apparently the 21 year old played the second half of Monday’s 2-0 behind-closed-doors friendly defeat at Norwich, having previously been on trial with QPR last week and Ross County this summer.
Not wishing yo knock the lad but surely we can be more ambitious than this for such a key position or is MM only looking for cover for the two keepers we have?

Think it is just a case of cover for Bart and Gerken which would then allow Crowe to go out on loan again to gain more experience.
As I have said on here often in the past I'm not totally convinced about either Bart or Gerks but I don't think Mick is looking for another 1st choice keeper.

Exactly right Shed, MM believes he already has Two number ones.

Re: Another dodgy keeper?
Misunderstanding on my part, I thought neither of our current keepers were good enough to be automatic first choice for the jersey because of shortcomings and that we needed a better keeper if we were serious about challenging for promotion.

Most don't believe that either of them are good enough, I must confess I am unsure and I cannot decide who is the better keeper, Gerks gets more stick but I think a lot of this is because Bart is the "Trendier" individual. It is definitely one of the most intriguing parts of our team selection this saturday, who gets the gloves !!!

The Reading lad is undoubtedly viewed as third choice cover. However, I remain unconvinced by either of MM's 'No 1s'. Whislt both are capable of 'doing a job' for us, neither possesses those qualities/skills to place them at the very top of Cship keepers. But am equally sure MM isn't thinking about trying to improve on what he has. Other priorities perhaps!?

I don't think either is good enough for for a team that should be challenging at the top of the league.
I think a keeper and a right back are a must if we are to win this league.

Re: Another dodgy keeper?
What we musn't lose sight of and what we all tend to forget is last season we conceded 54 goals, the 5th best in the division, only bettered by Bournemouth, Watford, Norwich, Middlesbrough & Sheff Wed, at home we let in 18 goals from 23 games, the second best in the division so maybe we are all being a bit short sighted in the goalkeeping department, and all this with Chambo at RB and Smith at CB for most of the season !!!

To be honest Shed has said, it allows Crowe to go out on loan, get game time, and improve his game, it also means we get to look at this lad and see if he's a NO1 in the making. its a win win for me!

To be fair, it's not like we missed out on promotion because of our goalkeepers, we got top 6 with them both and we now have a better team than last season so why can't we do better? I think Bart is good enough, we're not going to be able to get much better than him.

I'm sure we could get better if it was a priority but clearly it isn't.

A right back and another CB is more of a priority I think.

He is clearly working on this, I would not be a bit surprised if the lad from Hearts was to suddenly be unveiled.hallamblue wrote:A right back and another CB is more of a priority I think.

Re: Another dodgy keeper?
Upping our bid by £250K might do the trick - not a huge amount, but a very shrewd investment if this lad proves golden and helps secure promotion come May. Sometimes, without being reckless, it's necessary to go the extra few quid, Marcus!bluemike wrote:He is clearly working on this, I would not be a bit surprised if the lad from Hearts was to suddenly be unveiled.hallamblue wrote:A right back and another CB is more of a priority I think.
