Talk about the proverbial game of two halves. I thought we were really poor in the first 45 and it was hard to tell quite who were the Championship team to be fair, we were so disjointed and there was little cohesion to our play. Stevenage definitely looked like they could catch us going forward and typically they did just that but the goal had a fair bit of good fortune about it, Gerks made a save but the ball hit Berra and rebounded into the empty net, while there had been little to choose between the sides it was hard to deny Stevenage their goal, the highlight of the first half was the efforts of Brett Pitman who should maybe have found the net, while Didsy was having a decent game and any quality from Town came through Didsy, the other pleasing aspcet of the game was the debut of the young LB Myles Kenlock who was growing more and more into the game as it wore on.

If MM's substitutions on Saturday cost us it was the complete reversal tonight as the introduction of Ryan Fraser completely changed the game. The ineffective Toure was taken off and almost immediately Fraser was causing the Stevenage defence all sorts of problems, his link up play with McGoldrick was at times exceptional and chances were starting to arrive. Finally Town got back level thanks to a header from young Josh Yerworth, in fact he could have scored a few minutes prior to his goal, the lad had started well but then seemed to have a few iffy moments so it was pleasing to see that it hadnt affected him and his goal will do his confidence the world of good. There only seemed to be one winnerafter the equaliser and so it proved, a lovely move involving Pitman, Didsy and Fraser resulted in tabby tapping the ball into an empty net and all this after Chambers and McGoldrick should have scored from good chances. Quite how Didsy didnt score tonight is anyone's guess, one header in particular looked a certain goal.

The first half display was the one big negative on the night, but the positives again outshone the negatives, Pitman, Fraser and Didsy all have very good games, Didsy really does have all his old swagger back and was without doubt the MOTM, I am so happy to eat my words about him, Josh yerworth gained some invaluable experience and bagged a goal, but the really big plus was the possible emergence of yet another decent fullback, yes it may only be Stevenage but Myles Kenlock had a very good game and got better and better as the game went on, his ability to get forward and create chances with quality ball into the box was very encouraging while his defending was solid, he looked like he had played at this level for some time, very good prospect indeed.

With so many shocks tonight it was pleasing to see that we could make no less than 10 changes but still got a result and all this with loads of Championship teams getting dumped out, our opponents from Saturday also made 10 changes and got humped 0-4 at home !! Let's hope we get another good home draw and see if we can progress again.

Thanks for the report Mike, quite encouraging all things considered.

At least it makes the draw for the next round interesting which is quite a novelty these days.

Go with Mike on this game..Kenlock looks a real player already and if he progresses will be a bloody good player for us..Yowerth got done a few times by the Stevenage forward who had a bit of pace about him to be fair..but not a bad performance by any stretch..Did,s was quality throughout the game...actually looking for the ball and using it well when he had it , and the selfish streak that cropped up last season appears on face value to be left behind i really do see him as the AMF most want us to buy.??.

Poor first half , a really good second half

Toure still not sure about him
Pitman looks a really good transfer as well..
And Fraser on loan..well he swung the game right round when he came on a great little player.

And must say Stevenage are a decent outfit and played the ball well to be fair.

Football teams so often reflect the style of their Manager from the days when he was a player, it's therefore no surprise to learn that Stevenage are a decent team playing the ball well. Good luck to Teddy Sheringham in his management career.

By the way, his lad who used to play for us, anyone know where he is these days, as I recall he was quite a decent little player in his youth.

That must be a little disappointing for a player who showed so much potential in his youth, but I guess that happens quite a lot.

That said I'm sure he can still make a living out of playing football where he is.

Great to be in the next round - hopefully avoiding Carlisle away!

Match accurately summarised by Mike; with some excellent individual performances, and a glimpse of the young quality we have coming through. Key was introduction of Ryan Fraser, moving Pitman to central striker, with Didsy playing just behind - sort of 4-5-1 formation. The Bournemouth connection between Fraser and Pitman was very evident; showing the sort of quality MM should be aiming for across the team. Interesting to see how MM viewed it with regard to Saturday's game. The pace, mobility and high technical standard of some of the stuff played in the second half will give him some very pleasant food for thought!

I'm still stuck in Southampton during the week, so had to listen to this on IP.
It's nice that you confirm what I heard - that Miles Kenlock had a solid game and was quick to take up good positions going forward. Also that McGoldrick seems to have regained his magic - the idea of Fraser and AMN wide with Didz just behind the front 2 is one that I hope MM will deploy really soon.
