Random quiz question

Post by arana peligrosa » Mon Mar 21, 2016 11:03 pm

Saw this as part of a quiz question just recently and would never have known the answer had it not been supplied.

- What is the largest town in the UK (i.e. by way of population) that is without a league club

You could attempt the answer 20 times and still not get near it, although someone may recognize this and already be aware of the right answer. Gold star to whoever can provide a right response.

(You can use reference if so wish, but you'd only be spoiling it for yourselves)

A right response is highly commendable.

The largest Town in the UK without a Football League team is Dudley in the West Midlands, although most of the population who live there support West Brom which is only a few miles away from the Town Centre.

The next largest Town without a Football League team is probably Basildon in Essex,

Unless there's a random abstract answer I don't understand why the question should be classed as difficult. :astroll:

I can't figure out why it's classified as difficult either, Judy. Should be classified "f**king solid"!

If Dudley is indeed the answer then well done Charnwood. I'd have been here until March 22nd, 2018 trying to guess that sh*t.

Marko I spent a career in Retail Banking and one of the priorities in the mid 90's was identifying Towns where to open new branches. Part of the formulae included looking at demographics such as population etc and I just remember Dudley & Milton Keynes having huge populations and no football team in the football league.

I also remember some the staff at Dudley being huge fans of WBA which was just down the road only minutes away.

Aw, massive advantage there, Charnwood! Got to admit, I didn't even know where Dudley is. And why hasn't Saint Judy checked in at 3am with the answer? Keeping everyone in suspense for a few days?

Yes that was the answer provided. Would never have known that and that you were able to give a correct response deserves credit despite having prior knowledge on the area in question. As before, only a select few could ever have given a right answer. Maybe not difficult for yourself, but problematic for a great many others.

(The answer read that the population of Dudley is some 200,000 + which I found questionable (that's around one sixth of the population of the City of Birmingham) but we'll let it lie and thanks for playing.
