Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town preview and thread
Can anyone at the game provide more information that the statistics I've just read. Says we're well ahead in terms of possession and even created more opportunity but would ideally like a bigger picture of what's going on there.
D McGoldrick available for selection from the bench and would imagine he'll be introduced at some stage second half and even Varney could be involved. Don't always understand why we have difficulty in finding goals as we have a selection of attacking players that are capable but there's invariably little end product from individual names.

Dire game but with current results this a huge chance for us to nick a winner. Would make the 5 below Hull bunched nicely with 7 to play. Feel as though we must take advantage here.

Be honest, ITFC are a dull and unimaginative team playing dull and unimaginative football under the guidance of a dull and unimaginative manager. In short, sh*te.

So pleased I chose golf over footie today.
A little despondent but all is not over yet, that said we're so far away from being a Premiership football team I'm not sure promotion would be good for us...
...other than the parachute payments, they would come in handy.

Sixteen, Charnwood. That's pretty good and is the lowest I ever got to several years ago. Mind you, I was playing twice a week and could not maintain it.
I haven't played for over year now: wonky shoulders and a bad back are a curse at present. I haven't given up hope though.

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town preview and thread
In retrospect did the right thing in wasting as little time as possible on today's game duration. Saw ahead of time a no score draw was probable and was not disappointed.
Can't add much more than what's already been put across by other supporters and while you still believe the club can achieve something this season it's ultimately a fantasy land. Let's be straight here, we're nowhere near promotion material, haven't been all season and there's been too many instances of players, manager and owner not giving a f*ck and even where we find ourselves tonight, we've been hitting above our weight for the most part.
There's so much that can be said on today's issue but so little time to present it. In short the debt the club owes will only increase so long as the team stays in the championship league. The EPL is the place to be and the financial rewards a promotion brings would help stabilize the club, but with Evans and McCarthy running the show, it's not going to happen.
Got an owner who appears almost apathetic towards the team's ambition or future prosperity and a manager who often appears so inept he couldn't find a hooker in a whorehouse. Together these pair of (insert applicable word here) 'individuals' are only going to stagnate the club further. I'm not expecting every game or result to be a Royal Flush but seriously, I've lost count the number of instances where so many factors have contributed to so many shortcomings this season. Yes there will still be the intransigent factions who favor McCarthy and insistent that one name is the way ahead, but the prospect of another two years of this lame-as* presents a level of unrest. I haven't giving up on the season just yet, but if McCarthy were to type up his resume this summer and take it to another employer, I think a great many would jump at the chance.
By all accounts today's opposition were there for the taking and showed a sincere lack of effort and desire, (one team in other words who realized they had nothing to play for and had already packed for summer vacation) but as is the Ipswich way this season, a certain amount of huffing and puffing, but with no end product.
Maybe Charlton Athletic on Tuesday can offer something and we stumble to a victory and keep the damn play-off talk alive, but as before, maybe have to realize here the season has nothing left for us. I've offered McCarthy defense in the past and aware he's not solely to blame for this mess but it's the manager who picks the team, not the f**king owner, sets the tactics, emphasizes to the players before going out what is required and how to go about it, and in so many words, he's too deficient to lead the team further. Someone owes me for this time I won't get back.

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town preview and thread
Certainly not a classic but as ordinary as it was it was still an improvement on one Two recent efforts. We pretty much got the starting line up we all wanted but in truth we once again struggled to create enough good chances. In what was a pretty tame affair it was Town that had the only Two real chances of the first half, Feeney hitting the post and Pitman taking advantage of some poor defending only to see his weak effort cleared off the line when a simple sideways pass would have seen Sears with an open goal, Bart had nothing to save in the opening half. I must confess I felt really confident we step it up after the break and win the game.
The second half was much the same and it was so disappointing that we failed to create more against what for me was a woeful Wolves side, in fact their fans were getting on the home players backs such was the ineffectiveness of the home side. Our one golden chance of the second half saw a decent move end with Pitman ' excellent header brilliantly clawed off the line by Ikeme and that was to be as near as we came to winning it. Bart had to make one really good save but aside from that nothing else really.
Feeney and Pringle showed plenty of endeavour but really didn't bring the expected zest to the team that we all hoped for, in fact for me it was the Two holding midfielders Skuse and Douglas tgat were probably our best Two players while Pitman had a decent first half and was a tad unlucky to be withdrawn. We really needed the Three points and it now looks like Derby are the only realistic team we could catch, 6 points next week really are a must or the game will be up.
My overall feeling today is that we really missed a chance as wolves were poor to say the least, we needed to be braver, we lack belief in ourselves now and at times our tempo is just not intense enough, yes we were the better side and yes we had the Three best chances but it wasn't enough from a team vying for the top Six. It is still not over for us but the writing is starting to look very much on the wall.

I've played for years BB but more so since I retired, it's my lowest HC so far and takes some holding onto but even so I always look forward to playing. Back and knees is my problem but I guess that's all to do with age..
Where did you play, was it in Ipswich...
I guess this is out of order on the footie thread but if you get back into it and ever fancy playing in one of the ITFC Golf Days let me know. I think they have a couple each year, one at Stoke by Nayland and another at Ufford Park. In fact I believe they had their Spring Meeting last week during the International break.

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town preview and thread
Judging from the low number of posts on this match thread it looks as if the majority of Town fans on here have thrown in the towel, maybe righty so.......
But we now have three of our next four games at home all against teams at the lower end of the table. Enter these games with our best attacking formation and throw caution to the wind could just bring us 9 points which would give us 68 points and put us in a position where we could just spring a surprise.
All is not lost.....
Yet!

Rightly or wrongly that is the way I look at it, until it can't be done I will believe we can still do it. In all honesty a lot of our fans gave up when we were still in the top six.Charnwood wrote:Judging from the low number of posts on this match thread it looks as if the majority of Town fans on here have thrown in the towel, maybe righty so.......

Maybe Mike.... but I think a lot of fans don't believe we are anywhere near Premiership quality anyway. If we were to sneak into top six, then it would be because of slip ups from other sides.bluemike wrote:Rightly or wrongly that is the way I look at it, until it can't be done I will believe we can still do it. It could be a case of 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it' IF we get promoted, but, in all honesty, we don't really deserve to even think of being promoted. That's nothing to do with the spirit and fight in the team, but just the attitude of approaching a game. If you can't go into a game with a plan to outplay and dominate teams like Bristol City, Rotherham, etc then why do you feel we deserve a right at a shot at the premiership? Can't question the endeavour of the players, but we have no swagger or any ambition or even confidence in ourselves if we're only trying to live of other teams scraps.
I know Mick loves his players and is very loyal to them, but there's a back-handed insult there when he knows he sets up a team knowing they are so limited that they can't express themselves .... and can only scrape a result.

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town preview and thread
If it is the case Tang that a lot of fans don't believe we are good enough to even consider the Prem then why the bloody hell is there such outcry we don't win games or in the fact that we aren't in the top Six ? Surely it should not come as a surprise but we get such an in depth investigation every time when in turth we all know the answer.
For what it is worth I don't believe for one second we are good enough to be a premier League side, I have however believed all season that we are good enough to compete and ultimately make the top Six, the fact we have flouted with it all season backs that up, will we sneak in, well that is doubtful now but still not impossible. I for one have NEVER said we deserve a shot at the prem, in fact I don't care too much for the Prem and what it offers, those that yearn for it so much will be the self same ones that complain about getting thrashed every week, or the higher ticket prices, or the continual switching of kick off times to suit Sky, etc etc. Yes the financial rewards will put the club on a far more stable footing but as fans it will not benefit us one single bit.

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town preview and thread
Thanks for the report, Mike. Were there a few pints with Wolfie thrown in there?
The next four games, with three of them being against lower league clubs is actually more worrying than playing the clubs in contention. If memory serves me correct, the end of season results from clubs close to being condemned border investigation. Some results from already relegated clubs is sometimes scandalous!! NEVER put bets on at the business end of the season.
I fully expect Charlton Athletic to start extremely hard and fast at PR on Tuesday night. In the words of a pessimistic buddy, "It's no gonnae be easy!"

Re: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Ipswich Town preview and thread
just back from my sunday drink at our local club.went to see my 3 mates who i normanly go to games with, they went yesterday but i couldnt. it surprisingly how 3 people
see the game differently.the thing they all agreed on was wolves were crap and there for the taking.talking to them i thought it was feeny, who pitman should have set up when he robbed the defender.the thing that pisses them of is not that we are not in the play offs ,just the tatics and style of football.we know ipswich can play football e.g leeds game, but we have to revert to 2 or 3 holding players, when we had maybe the 4 best attacking players in the league but they are starved of good service most of the season.
