If Aston Villa have any sense they'll divorce themselves from any talk or rumor of McCarthy taking a (potential) position and seek elsewhere.
For fucks sake the Birmingham team will want a return to the top league as soon as possible and could you really envisage McCarthy helping them towards that objective ? I don't know much money there would be available to spend for potential signings but the way McCarthy goes about his business and his stagnated mindsets and ambition, it could in the long term prove a decision they'll live to regret.
In all probability it'll come to nothing. McCarthy will remain in place at Portman Road for another year or two and they'll hire someone that will prove more efficient. Yes I'd ideally like someone to take him off our hands but as before got to believe this won't run much further.

Re: mick and villa
Might be entirely wrong but just don't see Mick going to Villa.
One thing for sure is if he did end up getting the job at Villa there would be far greater pressure on him and he would be expected to get them back to the Premiership at the first attempt. At PR his hands might be tied behind his back in terms of having money to purchase players but he knows that he is working for an owner who tends to stick with the manager even if things aren't going right on the pitch.
I fully expect to see MM still in charge at PR for the next couple of seasons at least.

Good luck to Mick.
Villa job looks ready made for him. If he does go, I can perhaps seeing him peeling a few players away from us.... Skuse, Chambo, Dougie...
It makes sense and suits all parties.

IMHO I think
Mick gets funds = stays at Town
Mick gets more of the "we'll do it with freebies and loanees" = Mick fucks off to Villa

It is the bookies making MM 2nd favourite, I think Villa would quite like to have a say in it too before he is shipped off to Villa Park.

Villa have apparently said they want a British (Irish) manager.
Sounds like they want a proven manager at this level and despite what some may think MM fits the bill.
The Bookies are smart at what they do and I am convinced MM would not turn them down if asked.

Obviously time will tell but I will nail my colours to the mast and say that I believe 100% MM will be here come August.

Unfortunately that would be appear to be the case and said with a certain level of regret. Obviously no action will be taken before end of season, that at least is guaranteed, but when we get underway again at the end of summer it's just about an even bet that McCarthy will be allowed to continue for another season. Not just the contract extension that's a factor or even that Evans has shown a willingness to allow previous names to continue even when the club was falling behind and making little progress but they genuinely believe that McCarthy is the right name to lead us on and take us back to the top league after so many years away.bluemike wrote:Obviously time will tell but I will nail my colours to the mast and say that I believe 100% MM will be here come August.
Incidentally who is the favorite to take the Aston Villa job. Got a feeling they'll go with someone with less managerial experience that McCarthy or relatively new to management level i.e. a recently retired player that has received favorable reviews.

Re: mick and villa
I believe Nigel Pearson is the favourite but not sure as I really couldn't care less tbh.
SJ, are you saying a Mick McCarthy with a spending budget is not the answer for us moving forward ? You would rather get rid, tear up the stability we now have in the "hope" that a new manager will be better and spend what money there is more wisely ?

Re: mick and villa
Mike,
I don't follow SJs posts, but I'm not convinced with money that MM can take us further. Yes, we have little budget and it matters, but I'm more concerned about MMs approach on team selection and tactics..... and his stubbornness.... rather than a skint Mick.
If he had more money.... he would get a more expensive Skuse or Douglas or Hyam and/or a younger Murphy .
If we've got younger kids coming through, not convinced he will give them the chance over experienced journeymen.
Micks got his lack of funds up his sleeve as an excuse.... and 8th place is not a disaster. But there's been such a lack of initiative and drive to improve things from a playing perspective over the season... not just the last few weeks.
In many ways, I hope Micks future is taking out of our hands and he's poached. Then we're forced to see Evans play his cards... we might see how ambitious he is or how much he cares.... just something! He might have learnt a trick or two after 3 appointments and chooses a good replacement. Taking over a mid-table club is not the worst job in the world, whereby you could be taking over a relegation-battling team.
Not in any way concerned about a MICK-less Town ( he's going to leave at some point anyway), but more concerned about starting next season with same players, same tactics, same moans and its most likely going to be same if Mick stays. He looks like he's run out of tricks and now this ageing squad is a year older, rather than wiser.

Re: mick and villa
The thing for me is Tang, had Fraser, Bishop and Didsy been available all season no way would you be seeing the style of football that you are now, that was any bit of creativity we had lost, when Fraser was playing earlier in the season it was completely different. Unfortunately MM believes this is the best way to play with the limited ability players he has at his disposal, I am not saying I agree entirely with it but he feels that way.
A spending budget is a massive piece of the jigsaw because Mick has proved he can bring good players in, Fraser being a prime example, he was also that close to signing judge before blackburn offered silly money so the type of flair player Mick likes excites me, it is the money that is missing and that does not come down to MM at all, as Rossi said a while back nothing will change no matter who the manager is unless Evans releases funds and those funds would be in good hands under MM.
Already I can see promise for next season even if I am alone in that, a squad with the likes of Bishop, Feeney, Pringle, Sears, Didsy (If fit and head right), Skuse, Pitman & Murphy is a good core squad, add into the equation Dozzell & Benyu who are sure to break through and then sign some new players to fill the voids and I am happy with what we may have, you still come back to the rest needing to be bought and that requires some money.

Re: mick and villa
Would tend to agree with you Mike. But an increasing number of the current squad have reached a sell by date now, and need to be ruthlessly dispensed with for next season. No small, or cheap task. This is where Evans MUST step up to the plate if Mick is to take this Club forward and this summer is an absolute watershed for ITFC now.

Mike, Agree about Fraser. He's a little diamond and unfortunately not ours.
He was ready-made from Bournemouth to come straight into the team and do well at this level. Real pity about his injuries. Good luck to the lad.
Not so sure about Bish and mcGoldrick.... I think they would have been peripheral players if fit. I really feel MM would have chosen Douglas over Bishop in the midfield.
Let's hope those two can get some game time this season with an eye to next season.

I dunno about that, of course we will never know but Bishop played 26 games last season so for a kid that wasn't bad at all.tangfastic wrote:Mike, Agree about Fraser. He's a little diamond and unfortunately not ours.
