After 20yrs domination by Arsenal, Chelsea, Man.Utd & Man.City this is great for English football great for English football and is clearly the biggest shock in the game since Ipswich Town won the English Championship in our first season in the top flight in 1961/62

Your response is ambiguous. Are you relating to the league championship or FA Cup (or other)Charnwood wrote:After 20yrs domination by Arsenal, Chelsea, Man.Utd & Man.City this is great for English football great for English football and is clearly the biggest shock in the game since Ipswich Town won the English Championship in our first season in the top flight in 1961/62
What we achieved in '62 was a surprise to many but we had won the second division the year before and with center forwards the caliber of Phillips and Crawford within our squad we were always likely to challenge. Say again if Leicester win this years championship it will for me represent the biggest surprise in all soccer since Euro 2004 and the Greece team, but if you're looking from within the UK then I'd suggest Forest in '78 from a league perspective and say Wimbledon in '88 regards cup competition.

Re: Foxes nearly there!
he clearly says "Championship" and for any team to come up and win it the very next season is unheard of, it far outweighs the Nottingham Forest success in my book.saint jude wrote:Your response is ambiguous. We're not back in the UK till mid July Liz so any celebration will be here in Spain. As much as it's our local team and my wife's home City it's not the same as Town winning something, now that would be special.
Despite us being 280 miles and more than 4hrs travel time from Madrid there are loads of Man City fans around going to Wednesday nights Champions League Semi Final. Apparently this weekends flights from Manchester to Alicante were full of fans avoiding the excessive premiums applied on flights to Madrid.

I'm sure most Leicester City fans would much prefer to win the title on Saturday at a full King Power Stadium, although of course there's always a risk attached to that..

I'm not a Leicester fan and i'm nervous. Been following them since around Xmas and watched the game yesterday. They thoroughly deserve the title and it would be a travesty if they messed up now and lost out.

The risk Lucy is Everton winning at Leicester, after all their away form is so much better than their form at Goodison Park where they've lost 8 times this season. On their travels they play much better and have only lost three, at Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. With no pressure whatsoever on Saturday they could just spring a surprise. If Tottenham then won their home game it would all be decided on the last day of the season.

Tottenham have 2 very winnable games left. Leicester have Chelsea final game that's going to be tense if it does go to final day. 8 mins for Chelsea to get a goal.

Re: Foxes nearly there!
Well done Leicester City Champions of English football for the first time in their history.
Only the 6th team to win the Premier League Title since it began in 1992.
The greatest achievement of footballs modern era.

Are you for real SJ or just choosing to be stupid or argumentative ?
There was nothing ambiguous about my post, in the pre Premier League days the winners of Football League Division One were referred to as the winners of the English First Division Championship, how you can muddle this with the FA Cup is beyond me.
Town had no players with International caps until Crawfords England debut at the end of the season and their success was equally as unlikely as Leicester City's. I've no idea where your suggestion of Towns likely challenge that season has come from, this is completely ridiculous when you consider the strength of teams like Tottenham, Wolves, Burnley & Manchester United at that time. At the start of that season we were complete no hopers just like Leicester City.
In my opinion Town's winning of the League Title was way ahead of Forests Title win, after all Forest had already played at the highest level achieving Div 1 Runners Up status and FA Cup Semi finalists in 67, and had been FA Cup Winners a few seasons earlier. By comparison Ipswich Town had never previously played at a level higher than the English Div 2.
I accept that Leicester City's win has probably surpassed our achievement, but the game has moved on so far it's very difficult to draw a comparison, however to this day we are still the ONLY team ever to win the English Football League Title in their first season in the top division.
