Hyam's new contract confirmed
http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news ... s-new-deal
2 year deal with option for a further year, good news in my opinion.
I know many have their reservations on him, he is by no means the perfect player, but the policy of this club is to have half of the team made up from academy players, well Luke is one of them and I think a steady championship player these days. He still has some work to do in order to temper some of his more rash moments (such as Brentford) but I was embarrassed to hear the abuse being thrown at him as he went off that day, he made a mistake, sure he deserves to be made aware of that, but round me some people were just plain out of order throwing personal insults.
I for one hope he continues to improve, given the choice between Douglas and him I would take him every day of the week, however the main problem is working out a centre midfield partnership, it hasn't always worked well having him and Skuse together, no creativity or flair. Better to keep him as part of the squad, im sure he will have a part to play in the coming season.

Don't agree with that i'm afraid, for me is very short of being an average Championship player, where he was born means jack sh*t to me if he can't play. I find him to be a limited, nasty player who creates nothing, can't pass or control a ball and has zero goal threat, on goal threat alone I would take Douglas over him every day of the week.

Re: Hyam's new contract confirmed
fair enough, to be fair neither of them have much of a goal threat, ive always wondered if any attacking play has been coached out of him, he is predominately a defensive midfielder but could do with some extra coaching.
I have always seen some potential in him, and at times ive seen him have good games in containing other teams. When he first broke on to the scene under Roy Keane I thought he did very well.
I wouldn't write him off completely just yet, you would take douglas on attacking threat alone, I would take hyam on age alone. Not saying he is the future, but good enough to be part of our squad in the next year or two. Hyam made one bad tackle on Judge, and has had perhaps one or two other stupid moments, Douglas has that in him too though, he has broken 2 legs in the time he has been with us and has made some poor tackles.
That's why we love football, everyone has opinions, always interested to hear the way others see things, lets hope he makes the most of his new deal and progresses

Not a great fan of either Hyam or Douglas; suspect that LH will not be a regular starter next season, becoming a squad filler. Would rather have seen scarce funds better invested, rather than take a punt on the player suddenly becoming significantly better. Don't think it's likely to happen.

Not seen him enough to have a more concrete opinion like others, but what I can say, (and I've said it on here a few times) , from what I have saw, I do not rate him at all. Needs to control temper, and he also seems to lose interest rather quickly when things are going bad....., he'll make up for that lack of interest with a stupid lunging tackle or an elbow. Had loads of his type at Hibs over the years. We send them to Forfar.

Fully agee with both the above.ashfordblue wrote:bluemike wrote:Don't agree with that i'm afraid, for me is very short of being an average Championship player, where he was born means jack sh*t to me if he can't play. I agree with y'all - I can't fault Hyam's commitment and work rate but his skill set is just too limited and negative.barmy billy wrote:Fully agee with both the above.ashfordblue wrote:bluemike wrote:Don't agree with that i'm afraid, for me is very short of being an average Championship player, where he was born means jack sh*t to me if he can't play. Have to say that IMHO neither Hyam nor Douglas offer much of a goal threat.bluemike wrote:Don't agree with that i'm afraid, for me is very short of being an average Championship player, where he was born means jack sh*t to me if he can't play. What you have said about Hyam in terms of being unable to pass or control a ball could also be equally directed at Douglas - and both of them are more than capable of a really nasty tackle.
In short, I think Hyam and Douglas are very similar. It's a shame MM seems hell-bent on playing 2 defensive midfielders, as in this case we probably need both of them. But if it came to a straight choice, Hyam would get my vote every time, simply on account of the fact that he's younger.

I would hope Hyam and Douglas will make up the numbers in the squad rather than being first pencilled in on team sheet each week.

Re: Hyam's new contract confirmed
The thing is Gary the last season Douglas spent at Brentford he was in fact the 15th highest scorer in the Championship, playing in his normal role he is a very good goal threat, even how MM played him he chipped in with some goals. I fully accept that Hyam wins hands down on the age front but that is all. As for the nasty tackles, Hyam inj my opinion went out to get Alan Judge and he succeeded, the tackle at Derby by Douglas was a block that unfortunately saw Thorne come off worse, the lad has even accepted the apology as nothing more than an unfortunate incident, Judge certainly wasn't quite so forgiving.rossi wrote:Have to say that IMHO neither Hyam nor Douglas offer much of a goal threat.bluemike wrote:Don't agree with that i'm afraid, for me is very short of being an average Championship player, where he was born means jack sh*t to me if he can't play. As Hallam says I sincerely hope and expect these two to be no more than back up fringe players next season.

Have to agree with that. My midfield duo would have to be Skuse and Bishop.bluemike wrote:Don't agree with that i'm afraid, for me is very short of being an average Championship player, where he was born means jack sh*t to me if he can't play.
