Re: Scum Relegated
there is of course the usual Swing Low sweet chariots rendition when an opposition player blasts high and wide when hitting target seemed nailed on. As I say all very spontaneous and in the moment humour.
I also remember us singing back to Man City fans their Blue Moon song with different words, after they hot promoted but then relegated again next season
I think the words were
Blue Moon
You got promoted too Soon
And you're hoping to lose
and back below
Think the 3rd line isn't quite right.....but u get the drift.
Or their was.the friendly game vs Newcastle when Lady Robson opened the SBR. There were a good 2 K Newcastle fans there that day and the atmosphere good. The Geordies started to "claim" BR as their hero by singing .."There's only one Bobby Robson"
The NS immediately replied as one..."We never sacked Bobby Robson. Sacked Bobby Robson, We never sacked Bobby Robson". The Black n White hordes were frankly stunned into utter silence. There was after all, nothing they could answer that with was there. Sir Bobby is our boy and always will be. RIP.

Precisely. Cant say I'm offended by any near the knuckle humour and if it's funny .... all the better. You can get away with a lot if it's sharp or witty. Guess there's always a line somewhere and it will always get crossed now and again, but if you try and sanitise everything too much, then you lose the humour of the terraces.marko69 wrote:I think in general, a high percentage of fan chants are harmless and very humorous. It's only at certain fixtures that they can become a bit more "to the bone". But opinion alert here; if anyone is offended by ANY fan chant, I'd suggest staying away from football grounds.
I saw that Roeder chant online at the time and whilst it didn't offend or shock me..... can't say that I was impressed. Just felt like he was too easy a target and a bit low.

Re: Scum Relegated
Couple of other spontaneous and funny - in a black humour sort of way - chants:
1. When Joey Barton was awaiting trial for a serious assault charge, at every touch opposition supporters chanted: "Going down, going down, going down"!
2. When Gary Croft appeared for us as the first player to wear an electronic tag, resulting from driving offences, opposition chant was: "Come in a taxi, you must have come in a taxi"!
3. My favourite - at an Oxford United v Arsenal game at the old Manor Ground, which we needed Arsenal to win, Uri Geller was brought onto the pitch and introduced to the crowd. Instant chant from Town supporters: "Uri Geller - he's a bender, he's a bender"!
No doubt chants are as much part of the game, as dodgy meat pies and overpriced tea! Whilst racist chants are - rightly - acted upon, it's pretty much open season for anything else. Ultimately down to individuals to draw their own lines of decency and acceptability - a self-policing mechanism.

For me it isn't about being offended, god knows I have been to too many Football games for that, it is about whether I choose to sing about someone dying, hanging themselves or having cancer, frankly I dont.

Re: Scum Relegated
Other than the Mercer song, I can't think of any death or cancer or hanging songs at ER. There was a Graham Rix song when he was at the Jambos and caught with a 15 year old girl. Glad to admit I didn't join in with any of that nonsense, mostly younger generation.
I think if Delia had ever tried to "merge" NCFC with ITFC, but then documents were disclosed that it was actually a full take over and planned to make ITFC no more, pretty sure a "die ya whore" song would become popular. In fact you'd get up and sing it at a karaoke night, Mike!
Puffed out cheeks with spit: "I most shertainly would NOT!"

Re: Scum Relegated
Here you go. This is a typical example if how a song is started off. Often you'd then get half dozen fans start signing a song and keep repeating it. Others would join in and through a ripple effect in the crownd you'd get a song adopted as more and more joined in.tangfastic wrote:How about showcasing a few of the funny songs you've heard over the years in the stand that you mention.hallamblue wrote:suggest you stand in the SBR stand and have a go yourself then if you feel that strongly about it. However the odd songs over the years that gave been sung , often are witty and funny. Its not all doom and gloom, but I think if you try and stop a whole stand singing core songs that you don't agree with I think you will be disappointed in your attempts.
Can't say I'm blown over by the Delia one, but, who knows.... maybe sung in unison with a strong baritone section it might make the hairs stand up on the back of the neck.
Be good to hear some classics from the past ... It's a long pre-season.
I'm seriously interested.... how do chants start? Do blokes get together down the pub and scribble out lyrics over a few beers? Do they practice during the week in their bedrooms or sheds? Do they share lyrics online? I love the idea of some hairy, beery blokes getting all starry-eyed and diva-like wanting to be lead or getting frustrated not just nailing that high note.
Much as I'd like to believe that chants are spontaneous and others core chanters pick up the chant straight away there's got to be some underground chant group.

Re: Scum Relegated
I wouldn't torture yourself reading the bile they continue to spew out, any club that can p*ss away 8 Million on players like Naismith really have nothing to gloat about, it is all well and good having mega millions at your disposal but it is how you spend it that matters most and the signings they made were woeful at best, good enough to take them down in fact.
Then there is the McNally fiasco, having a spat with a fellow inbred online before announcing his resignation in public before even informing the club LOL, yes they do things correctly in Narfolk don't they. Smith, Fry, Balls, who is next through the revolving doors of this Yellow & Green circus. Let's face it they should be in a better position than us financially given the massive amoujnts paid out to incompetent failures but come August 6th they will be exactly where we are and back to square one. One thing we can be certain of and that is if MM had the the same cash to spend as that arrogant tw*t AN he would have done a far far better job and nobody can argue with that. Bring it on and sometime soon we will be ramming it down their arrogant throats once more.

Utter tripe! Whistling to keep their spirits up - as some of their poor deluded supporters' comments demonstrate.
For all their money, their high-profile Board, their young, innovative, manager and their supposedly better quality players, they will be playing C'ship football next season. That's the f*ck*ing FACT! MM vs AN is no contest.

Having a healthy bank balance and being in the PL ( albeit the relegation place or just above girl most of the season), doesn't necessarily mean they WILL be the dogs bollocks next season in the CC.
I'd say at least half a dozen Club's can boast that.
Time will tell I guess.
