I remember him playing for Luton. He scored in my first ever away game against Aldershot.

Hit the ball from the halfway line. It bounced twice, 'keeper misjudged it as it bounced over him. 1 - 0 to Luton.....but eventually lost 3 - 1.

A great player.

It's with a certain degree of embarrassment that unable to recognize the name and would have featured for the team before I took an interest in this club side, but nonetheless take this opportunity to offer condolences to his immediate family and friends at this difficult time.

Only 71 - liver cancer. Very sad - he was the final piece in the jigsaw that saw Bill McGarry's team gain promotion to the old 1st division in 1968. John's partnership with Ray Crawford (on his second stint as a Town player) was hiighly effective.

Looking at his wiki page, looks like he was a prolific goalscorer at all the clubs he featured for. If only ITFC could have a prolific goalscorer these days.

RIP to J O'Rourke......, your era was the absolute best, no question whatsoever.

I remember him very well and he was quite a prolific goal scorer. I think when Bill McGarry signed him for £30k from Middlesbrough he was our record signing. Unfortunately he didn't get on with Bobby Robson and lost his place in the team and moved on.

As someone else has said we could do with a goals scorer of his ilk now.

RIP John O'Rourke you will always be remembered fondly by Town fans.
