Tommy Smith signs new 3-year contract
Tommy Smith has finally signed his contract extension, putting to rest some of the rumours which were floating around:

Personally, I'm very pleased with this, as I think Tommy is an important, if sometimes underrated, player for us. He has amazingly already been in and around the First Team for eight seasons, and I believe he still has a big part to play.

Re: Tommy Smith signs new 3-year contract
Based on last seasons efforts then yes I would say this is good news, I see him & Webster as the way forward, two CB's playing on their natural side of defence and one who can play with the ball at feet.
This is a sign of loyalty from Smith as I have been privvy to some info that he actually turned down a deal with Reading that would have been £1000 a week more, if true fair play to him.

not sure what to make of Town tbh. A 3yr deal is a significant statement in my book but personally I feel Smith ( laudable his loyalty is in today's game ) is very one dimensional.
With Webster an obvious starter "once fit"( an obligatory after statement for anything ITFC it seems), where does that leave the less than dominant Berra I wonder?

Good thing they signed him after season ticket early bird sales finished. (well second deadline date!).........(which in itself is laughable!!) If they had done this deal before then i guess even less people would have taken the offer.

Some more thought on this........, now feel it's even more important that ITFC start the season flying, (and maintain it) ....., because that way they'll be on SKY/BT more. I need to see more of Tommy. May be a critic of his, but I'm desparate for him to be brilliant......, a "player of the year" season for him, hopefully.

lol... Yes he hasn't been the same since that hand ball incident in the play off game.....last season he was particularly poor.....it even made Smith look respectable!

hopefully a CB pairing with the footballing CB Webster might see Smiths attributes come to the fore more especially if Smith is played on his favoured left CB position. Trouble is Webster's not even fit!

Re: Tommy Smith signs new 3-year contract
To be fair to smith he improved no end last season and the silly errors were very much few and far between, it is no secret that i have not always been his biggest fan but credit where credit is due and Smith was always out of position so to speak too.
Let's also not write berra off just yet, he was a rock the season before last, and while I concede he didnt have the best of season's last time around you don't become a liability over night. You need Three good CB's at every club and with Chambers we have Four so its looking ok, I just hope Webster becomes a regular once fully fit.

...I just hope Webster actually gets fully fit. Ankle injuries can be a sod - not unlike hamstring injuries.

Re: Tommy Smith signs new 3-year contract
Was reading the Belgian game report on that TWTD site and scrolled down to the Tonmy "new deal" story. Seens like almost every comment by the public is saying good news. Only ONE says no, and the bumlickers are on his case giving him the "internet troll" treatment!
And NO, it's not me.
Seems like it's ok to have an opinion, but only if it's the "Tommy is fkn superb" opinion!
My God, the Internet is full of fannies eh!?
Cats whiskers, if you read this forum, not quite as opposed as you, but I do understand the thinking.
