LOL Dubai, I thought exactly the same thing, while I still expect them to be up there this is a reminder if ever one was needed that this is one tough son of a bitch league where you never get an easy game, everyone can beay everyone and that is what makes it so special.

Wish I could laugh along, but money was lost!Dubai Blue wrote:Nice to see Newcastle get off to the expected flier last night ............ not.
Welcome to the Championship Toon Army

Tell you something, Rafa is taking a big gamble with the Toon job. Nothing else but the league title is expected in the North East. If he doesn't deliver, it's not going to look good for future jobs. Yes, British people know how difficult the Championship is. Not so sure top Italian, Spanish or German big wigs appreciate how difficult it is. They'll see Rafa not winning a league containing Burton Albion. Who?

Have to be honest and say that for me the first game of the season buzz just isn't there this morning.
Whether it is because my expectations for this season are lower or I prefer away games to home games I don't know. Will be good to meet up with people I haven't seen for a few months though.
I'm sure a nice 4-0 win today would bring all the enthusiasm back though!

Re: Ipswich Town v Barnsley preview and matchday thread
well today all the pre-season speculation ends and we finally see if we do intend to play a different style this season.
I have to say that I'm more optimistic about our chances than I was this time last season.
Will be interesting to see the team selection - which defender will be left out, Smith or Berra?
Also I am expecting a midfield 4 with Skuse and Bishop central and the 2 new players wide right and left.
And up front I expect to see Murphy and McGoldrick.
I don't think it's all going to be one way this game, but can see us winning 3-1.

The two Grants may not start the game, but am pretty sure both will see some action during the afternoon.

Let's hope it's not the horizontal body of Bart, outstretched arm, straining for more length, as the ball hits the postage stamp.herforder wrote:but am pretty sure both will see some action during the afternoon.

Mick Mills says that our new defence pair are struggling to understand each other.
Barnsley having the better chances.
I really feel for Smith today.
