Took into consideration the worth of our attacking options earlier today and while realize opinion is widely diverse wherever you find it, it's not just McGoldrick I question, but truth be told, Varney, Sears and Murphy also carry a weight of hesitation.

The former has had injury concerns granted, may never be the player of before, but other available alternatives haven't been effective enough or provided enough belief that they provide a good enough service to help us out of this league once and for all. Murphy had that stand-out season, but hasn't been able to replicate those achievements, Varney "when" involved is largely ineffective, Sears after initial early promise seems to have faded out, and maybe Dozzell could push forward if required from an midfield position (as previously highlighted) but even then, we could still find goals an issue as the season moves through it's duration.

Maybe it's just the players we possess are capable, they simply don't perform as required, and consistently enough, in order to provide the club with a sufficient enough opportunity to challenge.

I think people underestimate the value and work of Murphy to be honest. Just because he didn't score 27 goals last season means little, when he was out we suffered big time, his absence affected the team big time.

This season he was involved in Three of the Four golas against Barnsley, winning the crucial penalty too although I admit at the time I didn't realise quite what an impact he had on the result, at Brentford he wasnt great, that is true then at Wolves scores what in most peoples eyes should have been the winning goal so it is hardly a poor start from him, if he had a partner instead of Sears he would be looking even more on the ball. Hopefully Pitman gets fit soon and starts to give MM some selection issues.

He really isn't worth it anymore !
As President of the David McGoldrick Fan Club, can you tell us where to write in for our free Didsy Sticker Album? You know the one, collect 5 recent injury X-ray stickers, and get a free ankle injury free!!

Aww, come on M'am, give the guy a break.......ooops, that's another one for the book! :D

Probably our most talented and effective outfield player on his day, but sadly those days are frustratingly far too few.

As long as we don't ask Freddie to shoot him, he'd miss.

Diddsy is being handled wrongly in my opinion. Agree with Ashfordblue about not being right post Leicester interest. People management is lacking from PR regarding getting Didz back on track.......shame really. We need him on form and fighting for the club

How is he being handled wrongly ? I can't see how anyone can do anything else for the guy, he has his own parking spot right outside the treatment room, his own team of physio's who clearly work 24/7 trying to get him out on the pitch, anything short of pinching Oscar Pistorias's prosthetic legs I can't see much more can be done.

Pistorias's legs would certainly improve his shooting!

Missing the point....You work for a company and are good at your job but contracted to them. You are head hunted by another company who offers you your dream job.......Your company refuses for whatever reason.....How peed off are you towards your employers? Do you continue to give them the same commitment? Do you consider your employers obstructive?
We agree that Didz has the talent. This is people management and PR are lacking in it. My opinion

Without access to either the individual or the Club, it remains opinion and speculation. No doubt McG would have been affected by Leicester's interest, he's only human; but that's part and parcel of professional football, and individuals learn how to cope and move on.

Whatever folks might think about his qualities as a football coach, I think MM's key strengths include his man-management skills, and total honesty. If he believed McG's performance or commitment to the team had/has been adversely affected, or that he had an attitude problem, he would have acted: no matter who you are, if you don't give 100% you're out - particularly if you're probably the club's top earner!

Because of his appalling injury record, however, it's tempting to conclude there exist issues over temperament and commitment. But, time after time, he seems to work hard to recover and get back into the team, and make a difference - which itself takes some determination and strength of character. The pity is that time spent in recovery is far greater than time spent on the pitch.

All that said, understand that options on McG will differ widely!

Whether coincidence or not, something happened to McG after the Leicester business. I would be very surprised if he wasn't resentful: we probably all would be in his position and the injuries just seem to have kept on coming ever since.

Does anyone know what his history was (injury wise) before he came to us?

Very poor injury Hx whilst at Forest I believe. Hence why Forest fans named him "sicknote": That should say it all really. He was out on loan at Coventry due to yet another return to fitness from injury

Forest must have felt it was Christmas when we cam in for him. In in his firts season with us he didnt make a whole season I believe due to injury...and hasnt yet.

Thank for that Hallam, I had no idea he had such a history of injuries. As you say, Forest must have rubbed their hands with glee. It actually makes you wonder why we took him on.

Lets not foprget at the time of Leicester being in for Didsy every man and his dog was up in arms at the thought of losing him, the general consensus among Town fans was that ME had to show some ambition and refuse to sell his best players, he did just that.

Lets not also forget that it was in fact Leicester and not Town who dropped their interest in Didsy, I am also pretty certain no bid was actually ever made.

probably for the same reason we've hung onto him. When he's fit and playing like he can do he is an exceptional talent and the manager is always hoping he'll come good fitness wise. But I've given up on him now. Next season is his last yr of his contract.

What's the betting he will make miraculous recovery in order to get another contract extension or move. His fitness levels made a similar recovery when a place in the Euro's was up for grabs . After the squads were picked he got injured again!
