I wonder if Vydra's arrival at Derby might place either Chris Martin's or D Bent's futures there under pressure? (Yes, I know where Martin came from!)

I would have expected to see young Armstrong here as part of the Murphy deal, good little striker, and how about reinvesting that £3 million Marcus????? what you want it for your investments, not Ipswich's oh ok then, well do the next best thing for us, kindly sell your ownership to some one who wants to see Ipswich in the premiership, not spend 15 seasons in the championship, like we have done,

Re: Rumours Thread.
Yes please to both.Burnley pair Lukas Jutkiewicz and Michael Kightly are on Mick McCarthy’s list of potential signings ahead of the transfer window's closure on Wednesday, TWTD understands.
McCarthy is looking to add a direct replacement for Daryl Murphy, who completed his move to Newcastle earlier today, while the Blues boss is also keen on signing another wideman.
The duo, who each have a year left on their contracts, are currently out of the regular first XI at Turf Moor but their availability will depend on Burnley adding to their squad before the window closes at 11pm on Wednesday.
Kightly, 30, was with Tottenham as a youngster and moved on to hometown club Basildon United and then Southend before making his mark in non-league with Grays Athletic, with whom he won the FA Trophy.
In 2006 Town boss Mick McCarthy took him to Wolves, where he was a key player in their 2008/09 Championship title-winning season.
Former England U21 international Kightly moved on to Stoke City in August 2012, then joined Burnley on loan in September 2013 and helped them to second spot in the Championship and into the Premier League.
He made the move permanent the following summer and was a member of the squad which, following their relegation in the previous campaign, topped the Championship last season to return to the top flight.
This season Kightly’s only appearance was in the 1-0 EFL Cup victory over Accrington Stanley last Wednesday.
Southampton-born striker Jutkiewicz, 27, was a youth player with his hometown club before moving on to Swindon where he made his first senior appearances late in the 2005/06 season.
His performances for the Robins caught the eye of Everton, who signed him for £1 million in March 2007.
While at Goodison Park Jutkiewicz made one senior sub appearance and spent time on loan at Plymouth, Huddersfield and Motherwell before joining Coventry City on a permanent basis in July 2010.
After 18 months at the Ricoh Arena - where he scored 18 goals in 61 starts and eight sub appearances - the 6ft 1in tall frontman moved to Middlesbrough, initially on loan before the clubs agreed a £1.3 million fee. During his time on Teesside Jutkiewicz scored 15 goals in 52 starts and 19 sub appearances.
Having spent the end of 2013/14 on loan at Bolton, where he scored seven times in 16 starts and four games from the bench, Jutkiewicz joined Burnley in July 2014 for £1.5 million.
Having failed to find the net during 10 starts and 16 sub appearances in the Clarets’ 2014/15 Premier League season, Jutkiewicz’s 2015/16 was curtailed at the end of August when he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury.
He returned to U21s action at the end of the season and this term has made two brief sub appearances in the Premier League in addition to a start in the EFL Cup game against Accrington.

Re: Rumours Thread.
No Idea, MM has refuted there is anything in the Kaikai rumours. I am a bit concerned at the injury problems jutkiewicz has had in recent times, he did his cruciate and has only just played his first game since so that is a worry, not sure I can cope with another Didsy situation.

Re: Rumours Thread.
Kightly still able to offer something at this level; not sure about J'witz - hardly prolific, or anybody's first choice as a Murphy like for like replacement. But, if he were to come here, fairly confident TC would work his magic, and then who knows? Can recall numerous reservations regarding Murphy in the early days.
Realistically, these are the type of players MM's budget will stretch too, even with the Geordie Geld. Combined, they're likely to cost less than the £8M paid by Derby for Vydra - and could well prove better value. But, at present, it's just speculation!

Re: Rumours Thread.
Ipswich Town will announce the signing of striker Leon Best today, with the striker set to be the first of many through the door in the next two days.
Best, 29, has been a free agent since being released by Rotherham in the summer and has recently been training with the Blues. He’ll sign a one-year deal.
The well-travelled front man – whose former clubs include Southampton, Coventry, Newcastle, Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby and Brighton – will help fill the void left following Daryl Murphy’s £3m move to Newcastle.
Town manager Mick McCarthy is keen to bolster his squad further though before tomorrow night’s 11pm transfer deadline, especially as there is no ‘emergency’ loan window this season, with another striker and versatile wingers topping his wish list.
It’s understood that several young Premier League players have been considered for loan – the likes of Sullay Kaikai (Crystal Palace), Dominic Solanke (Chelsea), Oliver McBurnie (Swansea) and Chuba Akpom (Arsenal) – but the preference is to add some Championship experience on a permanent basis.
Burnley duo Michael Kightly, 30, and Lukas Jutkiewicz, 27 – a left-winger and target man respectively – are two top targets. The Clarets are known for driving a hard bargain though and want to make signings of their own before letting their fringe players move on.
Kightly, as revealed by the EADT and Ipswich Star back in July, has long been keen on being reunited with his former Wolves boss at Portman Road.
It’s the domestic market that remains the focus, with any new recruits needing to ticks the usual McCarthy required attribute boxes of being a good character off the field and a hard-worker on it.
Big Jamaican front man Clayton Donaldson had been lined up as a potential Murphy replacement last summer, but the 32-year-old – who is in the final year of his deal at Birmingham – would be hard to prise away from St Andrew’s given how important he is to Gary Rowett’s side.
Free agents can still sign for clubs after the window shuts and their agents will be advising those players to keep their powder dry. The likes of Hal Robson-Kanu and Victor Anichebe may well fall into that bracket.

Re: Rumours Thread.
To sign Best is really underwhelming. The journeyman not wanted for long contracts at any of his previous clubs. But if Mick sees somrthing in him we have to trust the manager. Same applies to Jutkiewicz if we sign him up. I'm not convinced by him and don't want him but if he is with us I will have to trust Mick.
In a ideal world I'd love a Marcus Stewart type of signing that would make me buzzing. Or Grant Ward type at least as I knew he'd add a quality into this team.

Best was great at Newcastle, but not been amazing and yes a bit of a Journeyman so rather underwhelming.
I'd rather see us go for a young ish striker from the lower leagues who is doing well - not sure who fits that profile.....or a Premier league striker who can't get a game....again not entirely sure who that would be.
It's a hard task as no doubt we have to be careful about wages, but we need to replace Murphy and ideally with a long term solution rather than a short fix.

Re: Rumours Thread.
Confirmed that Best has signed on an initial one year contract, with option of second year.
Don't see him as a like-for-like Murph replacement, and some will be seriously underwhelmed at perceived lack of ambition his signing signals. But, given in the financial pond MM's paddling in, let's not write him off before a ball has been kicked. No doubt MM will have spoken with Neil Warnock about him and, together with TC, will be able to get the Best out of him! (Sorry!)

Re: Rumours Thread.
Well if it's true that no less than Nine clubs were supposedly after him, big names too, then he must have something about him. Welcome aboard, With Kightly due to arrive too and Conor Grant almost fit again we can hopefully consign the two non performers, Bru & Sears, to the bench.Town have announced the signing of Leicester City’s Tom Lawrence on a season-long loan.
Lawrence was mentioned in connection with a move to the Blues in January but subsequently joined Cardiff on loan, having spent time with Blackburn earlier in the 2015/16 campaign.
Early in the summer it was reported that nine clubs were targeting him, including Premier League duo Hull City and Swansea, as well as SPL champions Celtic and Championship sides Aston Villa, Brighton, Derby, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
The 22-year-old, who was on loan at Rotherham for a month during 2014/15, joined the Foxes from Manchester United for a reported £1 million on the final day of the 2014 summer transfer window after they had failed in their attempt to land Town’s David McGoldrick.
But the 5ft 9in tall forward has made just three league starts and one FA Cup sub appearance for the Premier League champions since then and and has not featured this season.
Wrexham-born Lawrence, who is contracted to the Foxes until June 2018, spent spells out on loan at Carlisle and Yeovil while a Manchester United player.
Lawrence, who missed Euro 2016 due to an ankle injury, has been capped four times by Wales, in addition to appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels, and is in the squad for their opening World Cup qualifier against Moldova on Monday 5th September in Cardiff

Haha...don't forget how good Tommy Oar looked in his youtube video! It did look like Lawrence knows how to find space. He just needs a bit of help with that final ball...which I'm sure TC will address.K L Blue wrote:Found this on YouTube......................number 9 wrote:I don't know much about Lawrence either, but he sounds like a better addition than AMN.

Yeah YouTube shows the best parts, and yes I was saying about the final ball, but hey ho in MM we trust, he must see something he can get out of him, I'll reserve judgement until I've seen him play in a Town shirtnumber 9 wrote:Haha...don't forget how good Tommy Oar looked in his youtube video! Re: Rumours Thread.
Town are continuing to look for more additions to their squad ahead of Wednesday’s deadline with a couple of further signings anticipated tomorrow.
Kightly now looks an unlikely addition with Burnley having been unable to bring in the players which would have allowed the 30-year-old to move on.
Lawrence’s recruitment makes adding a wideman less of a priority for Town, however, Blues boss Mick McCarthy may still be keen to augment his squad’s strength in depth with Football League clubs no longer able to bring players in on emergency loans.
A like-for-like replacement for Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle at the weekend, is one of McCarthy’s targets but with Clarets striker Jutkiewicz - who as reported on Sunday was on the Town manager's list of potential additions - now looking less likely to end up at Portman Road with Birmingham City now believed to be the favourites to land the 27-year-old striker.

Rather surprising given that Barnsley signed Adam Armstrong on loan from Newcastle United today.
Who cares though, we got Tom Lawrence from Leicester City.

Re: Rumours Thread.
Obviously this Lawrence kid isn't a direct replacement for Murphy (there was mention on the football rumors website that we're ready to spend the entire three and a half million received on one player alone by end of tomorrow's window) but it's someone brought in on a loan deal and prepared to allow the player a chance to contribute. Had a look through relevant statistics and he's spent more time on loan than at a permanent club throughout his career, and for a center forward, some would argue concern (he) finds goal with something of a worrying irregularity.
Not concerned with missing out on Jutkiewicz. Remember him for another team followed and was utilized so infrequently, his name may as well be erased from club history.
This window opportunity shuts down by end of tomorrow if correct so that doesn't leave an awful lot of time to gets things done or bring in some adequate name with the proceeds of the Murphy transaction. Maybe McCarthy has something up his sleeve or some level of surprise in store but we will learn soon enough the full picture of all activities.

Re: Rumours Thread.
Watkins looked decent when he came on at PR on the opening day and caused us a few problems, he looks a strong type of striker which is what we need, I wonder if a bigger offer will be submitted or if we take our attentions elsewhere, either way it looks like one or Two new arrivals, and surprises at that will b arriving today. Leon best may well surprise one or two who have written him off already while I am more than happy with Tom Lawrence going what I have been reading/seeing about him. We do need that striker and another wide man in though.....Kaikai anyone ???

Re: Rumours Thread.
I would have much preferred to see us sign one straight replacement for Murphy as opposed to signing two or three last minute fringe players who may never get past the subs bench.
Looking back we may have been better off making Adam Armstrong part of the Murphy deal, at least he knows where the back of the net is and has already proved that.
I'm not too disappointed with Best or Lawrence but neither am I convinced either are any offer much that we don't already have but simply add to the wage bill.
Personally, I much prefer transfer windows when we know what we want and get deals done early.
