Rob Cook (The Don) RIP

Post by Frosty » Thu Sep 29, 2016 10:36 pm

Dear Forum Members,

A post I can't believe I am writing.

It is with the greatest of sadness I need to report to everyone that Rob passed away suddenly this week.

I don't know the details, nor do they matter.

What I do know is that many of us on here have lost a friend.

Rob was 33 and leaves behind a beautiful little girl.

My thought's go out to Rob's family.

He was probably the most sarcastic and strong minded b*stard I have ever met, but he also combined this with intelligence, humour and thoughtfulness which is why it was easy to not only be his friend, but also to greatly respect the man.

Myself and others on this board are in shock and sadness.

Try and leave comments on this thread of your memories of Rob, good, bad or indifferent. (I can assure you he will love the bad ones)

RIP Tractor Boy and mate.

Dave

R.I.P. Rob......"He's one of our own ". A light has gone out on Earth, but there's a bright star in the heavens now. Their gain. Our sad, sad loss.

Good night Tractor- Boy aka "The Don" x

When I first heard rumours of this yesterday I went cold and numb, I prayed it was wrong and some kind of sick joke but alas it wasnt. I had the pleasure of his company on too few occasions but each time it was a pleasure and such fun. Rob was there for me with supportive words when things were tough, he had been there himself previously. I shed a tear tonight when I thought of his beautiful daughter who was his world. God bless you mate, you will be sadly missed. RIP xxx

Had to read twice to comprehend what was being said. Don't understand this news at all and was very sorry to learn of this breaking story.

I never met Mr Cook personally but remember him starting out on the pages some years after I joined up and rising through the ranks to moderator and ultimately forum owner. Didn't fraternize often but he was an articulate person, and over time became a valued member of our community, however small it may appear.

With all respect don't know what else to add to this right now except please pass on my sincere condolences to his immediate family and those that knew him. Sorry once again to hear of today's news, he will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace.

All of my thoughts & prayers will be with The Don and his surviving family today. Quite unbelievable news. 33 is absolutely no age at all. Hoping everyone manages to stay strong and gets through the coming difficult months. Never had the pleasure of meeting him but had many interesting conversations on here.
RIP Rob. You'll be missed.

Thoughts will be with you also, BluePeter. The news you shared regarding your wife's tragic fall has not been forgotten.

Totally shocking and profoundly sad news. Like many on here, I never met Rob but his strength of character, sense of humour and sheer charisma came shining through on this forum. So sad that his star burned so brightly for such a ridiculously short time. Life can be incredibly cruel.

The little family on here come together to send sincere condolences to Rob's family and friends, and prayers that they may be given the strength to cope at this devastating time. The sky above just got a bit more Blue. RIP.

I am so sorry for your loss, just a couple of weeks ago I was tell the preview guys that Mike was one of the people who I like reading his comments.
The Don was another one, this forum has lost one of the best contributors it has.

Once again sorry for your loss.

My thoughts are with you all at this time

RIP Don, True Blue!

Rob Cook (The Don) RIP

Post by Jamma123 » Fri Sep 30, 2016 10:02 am

I can only echo everyoe else's words of deep shock and sympathy over the loss of a life too young. The fact that Rob obviously touched so many lives on here, even if he didn't meet them in person, speaks volumes for him as a character. I have Rob to thank for first getting me involved with the previews, and will be forever grateful to him for this, as well as his friendship and support.

Condolences to his family, and let's go out and get 3 points tomorrow for our friend The Don.

Might be fitting, to keep Rob's memory close on here, by renaming the weekly caption competition in his honour? Always got the impression that he had a well developed sense of humour! Or something similar and lasting.

Absolutely fantastic idea. If memory serves, he was the one who started the caption thing when he was doing the reviews. But I don't need help with the memory to remember that he was hilarious with his efforts. Very dry sense of humour and could relate to it 100%.

If that's made official, I'll go next week and have his name engraved on the Caption Competition trophy and post a picture.

Rob....aka Don.

First I knew of "Don" was from TractorBoys, then he signed up to a forum I helped run with a dear friend. From there his posts were funny but also he knew how to get his point over, sometimes he would just keep on going until you had to tell him to shut up lol.
I read with interest of how he was pushing to raise his job to the next level and he achieved that, on facebook I laughed at his posts and pictures but the centre of his life was he darling daughter who he doted on so much....his Minion as he called her.
I finally met Don at the end of season awards some years ago, I asked Loud n Proud if he knew him to which he laughed and said yes hes a miserable b*stard, then the penny dropped as Don was standing right next to me.....oh ground swallow me up I thought.....but from that moment on we hit it off and spoke for ages. After that Rob as I now called him came to a few socials and we had laughs a plenty and always on match days a wave , cheeky smile or a quick hug depending on how busy he was.

I'm still stunned that hes gone, he was so young and what his poor lovely daughter must be feeling right now is anyones guess, my heart breaks for her. His family my heart goes out to you all.

RIP Rob......you will be so missed by so many.

Got to assume he has an extended family and that his daughter is going to be ok? I ask that as a question to people who knew him better. His daughters mother? Grannies, uncles, aunties?
