Changes to the Forum (Proposed/Ideas)
Hi Folks,
Hard to believe Christmas is nearly upon us huh?
It's also hard to believe it's been two months since Rob passed away.
Right up until Rob passed away, we were discussing changes/enhancements to the forum to make it a bit more 'compact'.
I obviously chose to put these changes on hold for two reasons. The obvious reason, is that in my opinion it would have looked a bit strange to go and make
alterations to the forum structure straight after he was gone, and secondly, I needed to be sure in myself that I even wanted to continue with what is at the
moment sole responsibility for hosting this forum.
I would like to make the following changes, but if people are against it, or more ideally, have other ideas, wishes or enhancements they would like (within reason)
then please either 'add' to this thread or 'PM' me and I will see what I can do. Please keep in mind that this old style board has limitations and equally I am
reliant on assistance from Dazza who is a busy man these days.
The main change I want to make initially is to the forum structure by reducing the number of sub-forums as follows:-
1. ITFC - Championship and General Football remains as is, but 'Travel' forum is merged into it.
2. Prediction League sub forum Remains as is.
3. 'General Chit Chat', 'Jokes' and 'Members' sub forums to be combined into one forum.
4. 'Other Sports' & 'Games sub forums to be combined into one forum.
This will reduce the number of sub forums from the current 8 down to 4 which I feel makes it less unwieldy. Ideally I wanted only 3 sub forums, but let's
start with this unless people have other ideas.
I think I may have mentioned this before, and I know Rob and I were on the same page regarding this. I have no grand ambition for the site. I think TWTD do
an excellent job keeping supporters informed of the comings and goings within the club as well some great articles and at times and an entertaining forum that
admittedly is not for the faint hearted or necessarily everyones cup of tea.
I prefer TB.Com to be more likened more to a quiet corner pub, where supporters from all walks of life and all over the world for that matter can gather together
after the match, and in what I would like to think is a less combative atmosphere (ok I get this wrong at times) have a good discussion without anyone losing an eye.
In fact many people on here know other members personally which is fantastic.
I don't really care if there is 100 active people on here or 10 people (although the more the merrier) as the forum suits my personal needs as a Town supporter.
Please don't hesitate to contribute folks, as I am only the 'guardian' of a 10 year legacy that was created by Darren and then Eddie in more recent times, I want
everyone on here to feel it is their forum as well.
Cheers and Kind Regards Dave

Re: Changes to the Forum (Proposed/Ideas)
Hey Dave,
That all makes perect sense and seems a logical and sensible thing to do, although I must confess I am not a big user of the other sub forums, I tend to stick mostly to the main ITFC forum and the prediction League so others may be better qualified to comment.
Rest assured if there is anything you ever need a hand with and I am able to help you only need ask. I think the forum is a fab place to pass ones opinions and chat to other Townee's without starting World War Three, god knows Ive tried often enough LOL. Keep up the good work buddy, Don would be proud.

Good on ya Dave. Not an easy task I think.
I'm like Mike in that I hardly ever use the other forums.
Idea: Why don't you set up a thread that has a poll or voting capability. And simply ask the forum users do they want ( insert sub forum ), yes or no........and go by thd popular demand!?

Re: Changes to the Forum (Proposed/Ideas)
Certainly wouldn't like anything so revolutionary that it changes the unique nature of this much appreciated forum! If it ain't broke etc.....
That said, the changes suggested make sense, and shouldn't have any adverse impact or frighten the horses.
With so much history behind us, and a number of mature members who will have witnessed some of it, might be some mileage in having a sub-forum: "I Remember It Well", where folk can post their thoughts, experiences and memories of matches and events from that rich past?
For example, I recall being at a FA Cup match at Kenilworth Road, where Terry Butcher sustained a very serious nose injury, lost a lot of blood and got carted off to hospital - stuff along those lines? Just a suggestion!
But, however it pans out, renewed thanks for continuing to allow the forum to exist.

Re: Changes to the Forum (Proposed/Ideas)
1/ A photo of Hallam, pished, holding a bottle of red as the forum front page.
2/ Saint Judes ignore function removed so he can read as much wind & pish as possible.
3/ A "word reducing" feature so I can understand Saint Judes wind & pish.
4/ A forum with one, (only one) positive post from Ashfordblue a year!
5/ And a log off feature showing a photo of Rossi and Bluemike snogging....., denoting that we can all be pals if we put our minds to it.

Re: Changes to the Forum (Proposed/Ideas)
Hi Dave,
Good idea on the reduced number of sub-forums.
The only other change I've banged on about for a while is having an open page that isn't behind the "password protected wall" so that the content is searchable.
Intention of this would be a place our match previews and sometimes the match review in a place where they can be picked up by sites like News Now which trawl the internet looking for ITFC related stories.
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/Sport/Footba ... swich+Town
I think we've got easily the best previews for ITFC matches on the web, and they are consistently brilliantly rolled out - it's a shame to limit the audience.
Keep on Keeping on, the site is great and we all owe you a debt of thanks!
Cheers,
J
p.s. We're well overdue a beer!

Good stuff mate,
We have a bit of this now in the 'Members area', but this topic would make a great permanent 'sticky' in the main forum
