Rowett Sacked
Guess only beating Town 2-1 is now seen as a sackable offence.

Re: Rowett Sacked
Wow, tad harsh in my opinion. I thought he had done fairly well there, before he took the job they had been really struggling, and had been getting thumped a few times.
Well MM said they are the closest thing to us, if 7th isn't good enough for them then im not sure 17th is for us. But in any case I do think Gary Rowett can count himself unlucky, at the very least deserved a chance to see this season out.

They've obviously got a bigger name lined up.

A BIGGER name? How about Lazaros Christodoulopoulos - they don't come much bigger! (He's Greek - midfield - currently on loan at Sampdoria from Verona).Shed on tour wrote:So did we once and we all know what that led too.marko69 wrote:They've obviously got a bigger name lined up.

Bizarre, bonkers, barking! Football Clubs should be protected from trigger-happy - or faceless! - owners!

Zola is the replacement.

I like Zola, not sure him and Birmingham are a great match. Hes still fairly unproven really, big job for him especially as their squad is built around Rowetts style, its not a free flowing footballing side which Zola would be better suited to.

No doubt Zola will have secured assurances regarding future squad investment. (Just as MM did!)

Re: Rowett Sacked
Would seem unfair. Not as if Rowett was performing really badly for them and terminated on the back of a victory ? Could understand if we had beaten them yesterday by a significant score but to bring the club three points and then face departure ?
Deserves maybe better and hope his next employers are better understanding. Zola is a questionable replacement but it's their business, their decision to undertake.

Do you really think the decision was taken this week!...... not a chance.
This decision was made weeks ago followed by numerous discussions and contract negotiations.
Just a shame they didn't less us win to justify Rowetts sacking.

Having read some of the reports from people who attended the game and their thoughts on how Birmingham played it sounds like they gave us a great opportunity to come away with the 3 points but yet again we somehow managed to feck it up.Charnwood wrote:Do you really think the decision was taken this week!...... not a chance.

Yea, we probably screwed up their plan. Losing 0-3 at home to Ipswich after losing 0-3 at home to Barnsley with a 4-0 defeat in between would have made their decision far more palatable. But sitting just one point off the play off places having just picked up 3 points does look a bit harsh.
I just wonder how long Mick McCarthy would have lasted at Birmingham City.

Re: Rowett Sacked
Pretty clear that Tuesday's result, either way, mattered not to the new owners. I wonder, however, whether GR had any inkling whatsoever of what was being planned - it would seem not. Such almost cruel decisions do little for the image of football - but as we know, normal employment rules don't apply. Appointing Zola, who has undoubtedly been promised money, may prove inspired and quickly get supporters on board. But, equally, it might be a risky 'Hollywood' signing who falls short in the very hard, competitive and unforgiving C'ship environment. Time will tell; but would imagine GR won't be unemployed for long.
Should ME and MM part ways (albeit highly unlikely), then Rowett would be an excellent fit here.
