Re: January transfer window rumours.
Yes we do, by and large have this players. So why don't they we all ask??
Well, that brings us back to Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor, their tactics, ( which are inherently different to those deployed by Klug and the other Coaches at this Club.). The STYLE of football under MM has ALWAYS been my primary gripe about him . The players appear devoid of confidence now and even appear confused about what they should be doing.
This I think reflects McCarthy inability to switch from his tried and trusted tactics if defend first, second and third. He has been forced to play the game more on the ground since Murphy left, and he has no plan B. Academy kids coming into team, have to suddenly learn a totally different footballing philosophy. It's a credit to them that they do as well as they do with the brief run outs they do get.

Thanks Hallam- makes good sense. Though I have always been one for giving the manager as much time as possible I think even my blind loyalty has ended and it is time for change.

I'd love to think MM would change tactics if he had better quality players at his disposal......guess we'll see how much Evans is really interested in a couple of weeks.

Wouldn't surprise me. EPL clubs of late always seem to look at anyone decent at ITFC. It's why ITFC aren't leaving the Championship for yet another 16 fkn years.phily bon bon wrote:Heard Sunderland are looking at Webster.

The way things are going we are more likely to end up in the blue square league than the premiership:(

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Why is it bye bye Webster? Because a crummy second rate comic prints a rumour ? I don't think that the club can be held responsible for this type of story, even if they were interested the proof will be in what we do.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
If Webster goes... that's part of football. It's up to us as a club to take as much money as we can re-invest. The Mings and Murphy sales were good deals... it's up to us use the money wisely. Keep on building and moving on.
I think ME knows he's under incredible scrutiny this window and has to be seen to replace at least Murphy. Letting Webster go and with no adequate replacements coming in would be the last straw for many fans. If Webster stays a while longer and enhances his reputation , we're not talking a mere 4 million..... he could go for 10+ million. Just talk at the moment.

Absolutely and that would represent great business by MM on behalf of ITFC to bring in a guy for peanuts and see him sold on for mega bucks, I remeber some fans even annoyed for poor Matt Clarke lol. I don't see Webster going anywhere in the immediate future but of course eventually he will play in the Prem.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
After yesterday's game, I'm not sure it's wise to dip into the transfer market, because MM seems lost in how this team progresses.
He's always looking backwards pointing at where we were 4 seasons ago or the Play-Off Season and making comments like ' I'm doing what I've always done' . That won't work... other teams move on and he's caught up in his 'Super Mick' phase .
I thought we would need to buy a decent target man and a box to box midfielder, but if Mick is asking Lawrence and Sears to play deeper to protect Knudsen and Chambers then maybe we should buy some personal man-servants for Chambers/ Knudsen to Molly-coddle them further. He's already got Douglas to double up with Skuse.

We have to freshen it up somehow, we just have no choice, the thing is if MM is here at the start of the window I doubt very much he will be going anywhere at all.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I still remember Mick saying we had a "Well-balanced" team a few months ago. The team we have is the team Mick assembled...and as he's also said, Mick's team has been built with complete backing from Mr Evans.
So,.............I'm not too excited about the January transfer window!
As someone said on another forum, we could spend 10-million and still be a mid-table team under MM's tutelage.

Sadly, that's exactly the type of player Town will sign.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Is this really the best we can do? Into what part of the great plan does this sort of 6 months' loan signing, unable to get into a team that totally outclassed us and whose standards we should be aspiring to, fit?
There have to be better, affordable and available, options out there. We need to bring in better quality than what we have, and be prepared to pay for it - without of course being reckless etc.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think Town will only consider loans in this Jan window to minimise costs and take an extended "look" at any potential summer signings.
Part of this 3 point plan was to scout round for young players from other clubs....sign em up relatively cheap....and to develop them onwards under our coaching.
So this Fulham U21 international player ( he's over 6ft), is potentially Murphy' s long term replacement. But rather than spend silly money in Jan on.him, take him on loan for rest of season and see if he cuts it.
I wonder if we will also be in for that Dundalk right back....he's a similiar age I think ? We could do with another CB in the Webster mold too and creative midfielder ( that old chestnut!!).......
So personally I ding expect many deals involving fees. But more young players coming in on loan with view to buy in.the summer....unless we acquire them on freebies in Jan ....ie the Dundalk right back?

Re: January transfer window rumours.
quote "Mick McCarthy has identified the player as a potential solution to the teams attacking woes"
Fair enough it's taken from what some may view a sub-standard news publication, but if there's any truth in it then lining up some kid I've never heard of as a #1 target indicates for me how far we've now fallen behind.
Maybe the best option is just to ride out the season as it remains and then clear out the dead wood in the summer and bring in new additions in time for August. Bringing in a handful of obscure (and desperate) names in the meantime to cover position isn't going to aid the team any great length.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I don't know if we can actually ride out the rest of this season in any safety seeing as how they are playing at the moment, but then saying that whoever or if we get someone in how long would it take for MM to destroy their confidence and any flair that they possess?saint jude wrote:quote "Mick McCarthy has identified the player as a potential solution to the teams attacking woes"

Re: January transfer window rumours.
After watching Sears' performance last week, any striker coming in had better be prepared to play at right back.
