McCarthy to get 'serious' with Lincoln visit
Mick McCarthy is to submit his strongest available squad for the visit of non-league Lincoln City in the Third Round of this seasons Football Association Cup tournament this weekend.
He goes on to say : "I'll be playing a strong a side as possible because we need to win it"
But then follows on with the comment : "I've not given it (Lincoln game) much thought"
?
Don't know what to make of this. This manager has never before taken an interest in any progress in the (or League Cup) competition in every season here at Ipswich then all of the sudden declares it's something of a must-do and victory would seem paramount.
May reassure some of the doubters but there's still ample time for the manager to go back on his word and revert to a line up that may jeopardize our chances of progression. See link below and apologize for the amount of unnecessary advertisements they saw fit to include but if it's the best starting XI he can assemble this weekend and no messing around, then at least we'll be in with a very good opportunity of making Round Four for the best part of six or seven years.

I think he had his fingers crossed when he made that statement.

Re: McCarthy to get 'serious' with Lincoln visit
"We" Mick? I think maybe "you" need to win it......., don't think it's necessarily imperative that Ipswich Town remain in the FA Cup......, but maybe for your jobs sake, they (and you) do.He goes on to say : "I'll be playing a strong a side as possible because we need to win it.
Is there anything online anywhere as to Micks reasons why they need to win it? Four years of 2nd and 3rd stringers playing cup games in front of several thousand pissed off travelling fans......, but now, "they need to win it!"
His mentality changes like Scottish weather.

It smacks of desperation to be fair, and yes HE does need to win it.

Re: McCarthy to get 'serious' with Lincoln visit
I see the more positive side in the sense that; yes could be out of the FA CUP, (I think they'll beat Lincoln though) but as far as the season goes, it's far from over. Ok, yes, in terms of success, barring a miracle, yes it's over......, but being mid to lower table is just as exciting as the season pans itself out......, nerve wracking at times, but still very much part of the season. Season ain't over ------> exciting times ahead.
Sitting here with my buddies Bud, Weis, and Er......., we all have the same opinion.

Too blooming right marko. Have to say Berra.looks a shadow of the player he 2asba couple of seasons ago. Think his heart and mind are now on his impending return to the Scottish Highlands. Can't say I blame him neither

The word is his partner left him and took his child back "home" with her to Scotland. If what was said to me last week is true he is 100% gone in the Summer. Not sure about the Highlands bit though.

Re: McCarthy to get 'serious' with Lincoln visit
I don't think it would be good to get knocked out of the FA Cup by Lincoln City. It would be bad for morale and motivation and most certainly p*ss off the fair few fans who will make the effort to go to the match.
Given the players get paid anyway, we may as well take the gate and prize money and hope for a spectacular draw in the next round.
This game should be a walk in the park if MM takes it seriously.
