Luke Varney Joins Burton Albion
LV has joined Burton, on an 18 months' deal. Nigel Clough pleased to have acquired his services, whilst Varney moves closer to his family. Good deal, for a 34 year old.
Thanks for your efforts for us, Luke, and best wishes for a successful time at Burton.
Hopefully this indicates reinforcements are on the way! Might yet see further departures.

A good move for him and for Burton. Always tries, strong in the air, covers a lot of ground. Could well be what they need. God luck to him, I think he did a job for us.

A sure sign of impending arrivals. I always thought he did ok for us, as ageing journeymen go he was definitely one of the better ones and as Andy says he did a decent job for us when called upon.

Good, solid player he'll be for the Burton's Biscuits, barring injury. All the best to you, Reg!

I wonder who we will get Rotherham’s Danny Ward or Fulham’s Cauley Woodrow or another .
Good luck Luke, I hope they put a clause saying he cannot play against us.

Re: Luke Varney Joins Burton Albion
We're being linked with a PNE player Hugii or something like that. Big lad. who is 25 yrs old.
this was posted on TWTD...
"I have never had any information before but make of this what you will. What I would consider a reliable (but 2nd) source from someone inside PNE has told me Mick has lodged a £1 million plus bid for Hugill with top ups taking it in excess of 1.5. Also said that a fair while back a £300,000 bid was made for the same player. Please don't shoot me down, if you've read any of my posts you will know I don't do this stuff - just reporting what I have been told!"

Re: Luke Varney Joins Burton Albion
MM brought him in and has been reluctant to play him...... I had asked if he was carrying an injury but no one seemed to know. Not blatantly defending the lad but according to match reports, Best has played not too bad in the time given in all except one game. He's making a living and every right to pick up his pay cheque........, this unsavoury scenario is also down to Mick, in my opinion.

He only lives down the road from me here in Leicestershire so it must be a great move for him. 140mls to Ipswich / 2hrs30m .......or 29mls / 30mins to Burton. As you say herforder, a pretty smart move for a 34yr old.

Re: Luke Varney Joins Burton Albion
It's a bit of a decent story with Varney. Never going to be more than a cheap stop-gap whilst he winds down his career. It's good for us he's leaving as we need to bring in new blood and he's done enough to put himself into the shop window and get himself a 18 month deal as a 34 year old. He's done enough for the team without out staying his welcome. Good luck to him.
Wont put it past Mick to loan him back from Burton, though.

Tbh I'd rather have had Reg in the team than Best!
I wish him all the luck In the world at Burton, he was a good player for us.

That would be Jordan Hugill. Not a regular starter for pne so that price tag is astonishing . Wierd one that.hallamblue wrote:We're being linked with a PNE player Hugii or something like that. Big lad. who is 25 yrs old.

Re: Luke Varney Joins Burton Albion
Every time I open the "football chat" section and see this thread with "joins Burton"....., because I'm half blind, I see "Joey Barton".
Is he joining? Spice the place up a bit? Joey Barton noising up the Old Farm Derby? Man, that'd be great!

The kid did all right here but was never utilized by the manager enough to make a significant impact. As mentioned hopefully his departure will make way for other attacking options. Should get more game time with his new employers.herforder wrote:LV has joined Burton, on an 18 months' deal. Feel sorry for the guy, hope he is ok and that this wasn't a career-ending injury.

collided with Watford goalie, never good when a stretcher is involved. Hopefully he will be up and playing again soon.marko69 wrote:Still can't seem to find any info other than he was knocked out.

Never good no, and needing that oxygen mask is making it worse. Serious concussion? Maybe an elbow to the head. Hope he's ok.

Re: Luke Varney Joins Burton Albion
"Luke (Varney) is on his way to hospital. He took a nasty knock in the ribs. It was an innocuous challenge. There were was nobody at fault for it. Luke was struggling to catch his breath.
"He'll be checked out and hopefully he won't be out for too long. A whack in the ribs is horrible. It's very painful, but he was looked after superbly here at Watford.

Re: Luke Varney Joins Burton Albion
An update from Cloughie Junior;
"Clough said: "He's not in the best of shapes, he's had to go to hospital. He got a whack in the rips or somewhere around there and he's struggling to get his breath at the moment so he's going to get checked out, hopefully it won't be too bad.
"He was conscious, he just couldn't get his breath. Sometimes when you get a whack in the ribs it can have that effect. He had the oxygen on and everything, they've been brilliant Watford looking after him so he will get checked out. When they do crack (ribs), if that's what it is, it's a bit difficult to tell how long because it's extremely uncomfortable.
"He was everything that we hoped he would be. He won his headers, he ran around and got hold of the ball for us and should have scored early on in the second half with a header as well."
"
