Does this mean Rooney is heading back to Everton as part of the deal?

Everton were actually holding out for 100 million for the player, no bullshit, they really expect(ed) someone to pay up to that amount.

Caught a lot of Lukaku and first and foremost he's not worth anywhere near the 75 million stated. Good player, granted, but has an attitude problem and prone to bursts of adolescent behavior. Any valuation over 30 (million) is ludicrous.

At time of writing no deal has gone through, it's all just hear-say and conjecture, if Manchester United are really going to pay 75 + million for the player it's only another indication that the game has sense of direction and there's idiots out there with more money than commonsense.

25 million for Rooney in 2004 was retrospectively a good sale (he's been nothing like the expected prodigy in subsequent years) but this sale should it occur will take events to a new level. Rooney could return after an absence of 13 years as there's nothing in the level of animosity in his direction from time of departure but they've (Everton) already made a number of high profile signings just recent and in truth, it's a name they don't need see return.

I understand Everton would like Rooney back at Goodison Park and for him to end his career there, the only hold up being Rooney himself who doesn't want to take a pay cut below his current £300k per week (guaranteed for another season), not even to return to his boyhood club. I guess he needs the money more than he does his football.

Well given that he might hope to spend another 60 odd years on this planet I don't blame him.

I think I heard Everton are going to offer 150 K a week. Not 300K - but not a shabby wage.

If he hangs in there on 300K a week at MUFC and not playing - he knows he'll ruin his legacy there.

He should take the move and try and re-ignite his career. He's been living of his reputation for some time now.

Him and Coleen could perhaps tighten their belts a bit and be a bit more thrifty with the downsize in wages.

The player has now returned back within the last hour and will feature again for the first time since 2004. The transfer is officially a free but in truth any payment is waived through the Lukaku deal. First thoughts, it's something of a glamor signing but the kid's been heavily overhyped since his departure and got to take a level of question to the majority that were spitting vitriol his way at time of move (to Manchester United) and now waiting with open arms for a return "home"

150,000 a week salary which is a significant drop on his previous earning but god forbid he'll still be able to make ends meet..

He wasn't overhyped SINCE his departure. What the f*ck are you talking about? He's been overhyped past 5 or 6 years maybe. At the time of his departure and subsequent years, he was fkn brilliant. And the fans who were "spitting vitriol" were only doing so as it'd put the club even further behind Liverpool.

"Ever tan, you say, who? I no understand,..... Ever...."
"You know, Everton? From Liverpool?"
"AHHHH, LIVERPOOL, YES, YES...... how you say, Shankly, St.John, Dalglish, Souness, Yes?"
"St. John also played for Tranmere."
"AHHHHHHH, TRANMERE!"

What you can ascertain, he's been mediocre at international level since 2004, that can't be disputed. That it coincides with the transfer of the time is up for debate but the irony is, Everton actually improved without him and reached Champions League soccer within a year of his leaving (We finished above Liverpool, so much for going further behind). Fair enough he had a handful of standout games for Manchester United in the immediate years and came to the fore every now and again but as before, has been nothing of the expected prodigy many had envisaged.

Perhaps mediocre was unfair on the kid but the fact of the matter is back in 2003 Rooney was the biggest youth talent in British soccer and simply hasn't lived up to the expectancy of what many had prophesized. Obviously lost considerable interest in the players endeavors after leaving us the following year (what he aims to do for another club would have been of little use for ourselves other than financial aspects) but aware enough the hype that was around never quite came to pass. As for being MUFC top scorer than was news to me, seriously would never have been aware until mentioned (does than make him better than say Charlton, Cantona, Law, Best, Duncan Edwards etc, questionable at best)

Last word again at international level, fair enough the statistics show leading scorer but don't tell me he's a better striker or possess more predatory instinct than ex-players including Lineker, Dean or Greaves. Just on the latter, will always insist Jim Greaves as most instinctive lethal center foward they ever possessed, those of a certain age will concur (just a shame he didn't receive a World Cup winners medal that his talents justly warranted)

Just about done with the issue at this point, wish the player well on his return but once again have to emphasize it was a transfer that wasn't readily necessary. The Rooney of 2003 and present day are poles apart, be interesting to see what occurs but don't expect great things out of this.

No Nics, not "really"...... its wind & pish.

It's why I'll never be allowed to be a moderator. People who are trying to be serious but are in reality talking sh*t would be banned.

"Yes, well think if other players tried to at least get on the end of a Knudsen throw in, it'd be a different story...... we're talking world class......"
"Ok, you are joking, yes?"
"No...... I firmly believe......"
Banned.
