The level of opposition is the main thing and with Lincoln on a bloody big budget by comparison to most the figures mean Jack sh*t, Hurst did much of his with the lowest budget in the division, no comparison.

No, no comparison, I'd far prefer Hurst, but you have also said money guarantees you nothing  so I think they deserve at least some credit. I think they were mainly linked before Hurst and Ross, so at that point it seemed to be Cowley or McClaren, you can see why people were shouting for the former!

Honestly don’t believe the Cowleys ever wanted to come here. Signed new contracts knowing MM had departed, never expressed any hint of a desire to replace him or had anything particularly positive to say about the club. Were ME keen to get them would involve paying reasonable compensation - something I don’t think he really wants to do.

Bottom line is there are better out there, and we would want ME to try and get the best fit available. The Cowleys are well matched to Lincoln - doing a sound job with the resources available. Don’t believe they would be as well suited here.

See Paul Lambert has left Stoke. It couldn’t happen, could it? .......

I actually have nothing against the Cowleys, they seem good guys and are doing ok, I just never got all the hype.

Cheers!

Noticed after typing up some predictions that after tomorrow, it’ll only be TB Cup Final half time tomorrow! Second half next weekend. Talk about proper suspense! :D Great stuff.

And after already reading tons on Jack Ross, and some more on Paul Hurst, I too wouldn’t be overly thrilled with a Frank Lampard appointment.

I’m all for doing the root n branch approach and looking at all options, but you’ve also got to eliminate options which are not appropriate.

If Marcus Evans wants to do something different, then he should be clear headed in what is different. Not 10 kinds of different.

Going for smart, ambitious up and coming managers like Ross and Hurst who’ve got a proven upward track record seems correct. It appears a deal that suits both parties.... we give them the opportunity to further their ambitions and that in tail will hopefully will make us a better football club.

Then we hear he’s approaching Grayson (old gnarled Mick-lite option) and then having second interviews with Lampard( star name, no experience option). Throw in Sherwood ( all mouth n trousers option) and Burley( yesterday’s man, but former player option) and it doesn’t seem very clear-headed.

You can’t just have a visionary plan and then force it into anyone’s hands. Ross /Hurst ticks the boxes for me as the type who appear to be smart, ambitious, forward thinking, yet grounded by their experience in the lower leagues.

Lampard might have celebrity and Uncle Arry in Evans ear, but this just seems like giving a spoilt millionaires kid a Ferrari for his 18 th birthday in which he’ll crash within a week. He can go back to the pundits sofa the following week, while we’ll be left holding the baby.

I hope Evans knows what he wants, but the names coming forward to us having the interviews doesn’t suggest he knows what type of manager he wants

Personally I still think it has come down to a Two horse race between Ross & Hurst, I do wonder if ME is filling in time with all these other interviewees until such time that Hurst is available to interview ?

Sorry Mike, I was a bit vague there. I decided to check the dates as I knew three of those prediction games would be at Wembley. Villa next sat, and Hurst’s Shrews next Sun.

In the interview with Mevans, he did say end of May, early June for the name to be unveiled. Certainly ties in with a Shrewsbury v Rotherham May 27th Final. Regardless of the other so called bigger names, that’s a helluva long time to have “two interview” Jack Ross waiting. Can only assume Jack was told this and he’ll be carrying on with his St Mirren work. Or he’s on holiday!

I’ve wondered that, but he’s got another time-consuming day job and I find it hard to believe he’d waste his precious time by interviewing people just for the sake of it.

It could well be a bit of smart PR for the club and Evans to be associated with Lampard and nothing else, but then we apparently contact Grayson which is a PR fail.

I guess it’s a case of wait and see. If he’s interested in feedback from the fans ( and he should know by now they’re very important) then they’ve been sold on getting a Ross or a Hurst. They’re realistic and attainable. Just go and get one of them ... and just tell Frank Lampard to cut his teeth in League 2 if he’s really serious about management.

I agree, the other thing is just say Ross and Hurst both said no thanks right at the death and ME hadn't interviewed anyone else ? He would look a bit of a tit.

Very true. I’m hoping he’s interviewing others rather than Lampard or Grayson....like Nathan Jones or Darrell Clarke to fit in with the Ross/ Hurst mould.

Always suggested that appointing MM’s successor is a two-way process - down to ME to convince his preferred option(s) that the move is right for both parties. That said, the priority must be to appoint an individual who will serve the club first, and not use us as a stepping stone to bigger and greater things, or wants to learn the management ropes with us. Or, by the same token, someone who has a great career behind them!

Come on Marcus, you know what to do. Get the right deal done. :D

If it’s Ross or Hurst, and they are genuine big time managers, then, (in time) ITFC will have been a stepping stone club. But yes, they can’t come to ITFC with that view. Confident neither of those two would regard the job in that way.

Interestingly, one of my good friends who is known as the “guru” due to his fairly decent knowledge, reckons Jack Ross will do an Alan Stubbs at Rotherham and will be sacked by Xmas if appointed by Ipswich Town.

He knows fk all about football, but great in a pub quiz team! :D

I’ve got no problem with a “stepping stone” manager. To get onto a higher level, they’ve got to impress and that means it benefits Town. Hopefully, before they leave we’ll be on a far better level.

St Mirren are coming to terms with losing their manager, but if he leaves he’s left them in a far better position.

Of course young managers need to gain experience and move onwards and upwards - same in any profession.

Appointing someone who has started that journey, such as Ross or Hurst, is fine. However, what carries too great a risk, is bringing in someone with no previous management experience, but who’s keen to find a suitable starting place. Certainly Lampard fits that category, coming also with the history of a top class player, and high profile personality.

Whichever way ME jumps there’s an element of risk.

No problem with the stepping stone thing myself either........ but both Neilson and Stubbs failed quite dramatically at MK Dons & Rotherham respectively...... so if Ipswich is to be a real honest to God stepping stone, then Ross and Hurst better not be “pretenders”.

Very correct that St Mirren are in a much better place and will quadruple revenue next season due to Jack Ross. They’ll need a good appointment themselves if Ross leaves.
