£6.66 a minute........ but only £6.18 if the game gets to the 97th minute. Sack that. I’d be ending games bang on 90 minutes.

I missed that about the retainer. For Championship level, that’s a decent amount.

I suppose for young referees that’s an incentive to even consider to start refereeing - if they can get to that level. I can’t see much other incentives TBH. Unless they get a kick out of winding up Paul Lambert.

I meant you can’t find League one / two refs match day wage rates on the internet anywhere, eg I can’t get that info to come up when I’ve searched. Info doesn’t go below the Championship level. So lower EFL leagues don’t “exist”!

It will be interesting to see how the referee performed today given that the FA Cup 1st Round probably ranks lower than League 1 when it comes to the FA appointing officials.

Are they just p*ss poor or is there something going on against ITFC in this division this season, because I have never in all my born days ever witnessed such bad ( no, totally inept decisions), and I cant explain it. The EFL really do need to look at this .

Having seen Leicester’s hand ball penalty award against Wolves today and to a lesser extent Man City’s against Liverpool both with the added advantage of VAR, it’s becoming blatantly obvious that it’s not solely referee incompetence, it has to be the definition of the hand ball rule.

When such stupid decisions are given and then proved to be within the rules there has to be something wrong with the rules.

The ref for Towns game said McGuinness got the last touch for the Pompey so called winning "goal". Problem is that player was FIVE YARDS away from the goal line. What an utter tool the ref is . he should be struck off the professional refs list for that c*ck up alone.

That's the point I made earlier. The rules have changed because people wanted consistency. The only way to achieve that is to take any discretion or interpretation out of the equation. So we end up with the bloody daft rule that if if hits your arm its a penalty. Doesn't natter whether it's from 20 yards or 1. Doesn't matter how much you try to get out the way.
Same with offside. Although they clearly got it wrong yesterday, they've removed the "interfering with play" so you have to touch the ball to be offside. Years ago the lino's flag would have been up as soon as the ball went goalwards. In my opinion it was mucb more sendible then.

Yep. Even if a player is scratching his arse on the opposite touchline....... if he’s offside, he’s offside. Not being sarcastic, (we must verify that these days) ..... but they were easier, better and definitely more sensible days, AndyM.

I remember nearly 40 years ago a central defender I played with said to me "if I push up to.play someone offside, he is dictating my position on the pitch so he must be interfering with play whichever wing he's on."
