Such an exciting time to be a town fan! Maybe all these signings won’t work out on the pitch but it’s sure going to be interesting seeing how cookie lines them up and how they perform. This keeper I reckon is going to be a legend. Every great team has a great goalie - welcome to town Vaclav

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Had a quick scan through the Salford City Facebook post about him leaving, the fans seem gutted - a lot of comments about him being a top player - inevitable he would go higher etc.
Of course none of these players are ‘slam dunks’ but it’s always a good start when the fans of the teams they are leaving are saying how great they are. I’m sure when most of our players leave we are generally glad rather than disappointed.
Really impressed how quick and effective we have been this past week. The new players seem buzzing to start so I’m hoping there is some good energy riding around the club now. COYB!

I was hoping we would get him, 20 goals playing in a poor side.hallamblue wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 9:38 pmLooks like Sunderland are getting Piggot ( Wimbledon striker), pity if true …. Would have liked him at Town

Yes he’s exactly the kind of striker we need to be getting in.Kerry Blue wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 9:59 pmI was hoping we would get him, 20 goals playing in a poor side.hallamblue wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 9:38 pmLooks like Sunderland are getting Piggot ( Wimbledon striker), pity if true …. Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
A new goalkeeper was near imperative, Holy was never going to be enough and it were an area of field we needed extra cover.
Never heard of the name Vaclav, don't see what Salford get up to or have nowhere near enough interest for that area of the League map but seems enough are excited about the arrival and look forward to seeing what he can contribute next season. I'd expect Cook to play him in largely trivial things like Cup games for the first season with a view to becoming or challenging #1 when and if Holy takes off in a year from now, or even before it.

Can’t say I was too excited about the GK signings, but this guy seems to have had a great last few seasons. This one went really under the radar when we thought we would get Siegrest, MacGillvary or Amos. Not even a sniff of rumours until he was virtually unveiled.
I like this signing as he’s someone on the up and not someone who’s just come out of contract and touting themselves around for a new deal.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
He will be our number one I'm sure of it, he was probably on decent money at Salford and will be on decent money here, plus we paid a fee for him - we don't have money (fee's or wages) to be throwing around on backup players due to the financial rules. I suspect we will have a strong 15 player squad on good money, with some young players and low wage free transfers added on top to make it a 25 man squad or so. I would not be surprised if Holy stays as backup, or if we get a low wage backup etc.saint jude wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 1:42 amA new goalkeeper was near imperative, Holy was never going to be enough and it were an area of field we needed extra cover.

Bang on. He’s the number one and we can’t afford to have two top GK’s. Either Holy is either back up or we look for a cheaper option number 2 and we offload Holy.shabba wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:37 amHe will be our number one I'm sure of it, he was probably on decent money at Salford and will be on decent money here, plus we paid a fee for him - we don't have money (fee's or wages) to be throwing around on backup players due to the financial rules. As you say, better to spend the budget on quality core of players. Likelihood that Hladky gets injured is there, but less likely for a GK.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
So reading that link, he's a top shot stopper, penalty king, good with crosses and excellent distribution with hand or feet who can pass better than most defenders, excited by this guy, I think we've got a real gem here.

New keeper sounds the real deal. About time for Ipswich. Some real horrendous keepers over the Mevans era.

Wonder how Penney's medical went yesterday. Seems to have gone quiet today on that one.

A good experienced left footed centre half with a bit of age needed now.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
I agree KB, CB is hopefully a position that will be addressed soon.
How many more (in all positions) do we think we would need now? obviously considering there still may be future goings out (ie Jackson, Downes etc)

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Yes, an experienced CB (preferably captain material) would be good.
Think we need a number 10 (maybe Crooks) and another wideman who can find the net.
i'm not sure how this Penney will turn out. Could go either way, but we can't expect to fill every position with proven quality. Think Penney is a bit of an unknown quantity, but is versatile and can cover the left-side. Don't think we need 11 League One superstars in a team -but a core 5-6 fit-for-purpose decent players at this level to drive the team on.

2 Cb's is now vital, I think we need another 4 or 5 signings in the right positions and we are set.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
How many we bring in might be dependant on how many we ship out.Still a few who need to leave.
Even though Toto and Donacien are in the first team squad, not convinced they are part of the plans. Also, Nolan and El Mizouni- they’re there, but Cook probably wants to have a look at them.
Not convinced Penney will be first choice LB. I think we need an established LB. Kenlock needs to move on - he’s been a perennial back-up and seems too comfortable being that.
Definitely need an experienced CB. Could be we spend a sizeable part of the budget on a CB (captain) and someone like Crooks and then we might have to pad out the squad with cheaper options or loans. Keeping within the budget could be tricky and a real juggling act.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Peterborough United have made Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes one of their top summer transfer targets, we understand.
The newly-promoted Championship club will do all they can to try and lure the 22-year-old away from Portman Road over the coming weeks, though they will face competition for his signature.
Barnsley, who finished fifth in the Championship last season but have just seen manager Valérien Ismaël join West Brom, are also believed to have shown interest.
Whether a deal can be struck remains to be seen. It's a delicate situation.
Following an impressive League One season for Town in 2019/20, Downes handed in a transfer request after the Blues had rejected a bid of £1.6m from Premier League club Crystal Palace.

An injury-hit season later, the former England U19 international's value will have depreciated. His current deal expires next year, but a one-year extension option in the club's favour means he is a protected asset until 2023.
Blues boss Paul Cook has made it clear he only wants players who are 'totally committed' to the club, with Downes one of six senior players told to start pre-season training with the Under-23s.
Ipswich won't want to lose a key player on the cheap though and time will tell if their valuation of the player is met by suitors in a depressed Covid-affected market.
Another potential hurdle would be how high Downes has set his sights. Peterborough, for example, might struggle to persuade him to join a club that has the potential to return to the third-tier in the near future.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. I love it when these big time Charlie’s get brought down to Earth. Seems our want away player isn’t such the big draw as he or his agent thought he was. Just get rid, he doesn’t want to be here.
