Come on you England.
Do you think like myself VAR been lot better in this tournament than last season in the Premiership?

Though in the main the referring been very good and not relying on VAR as much

your right Steve, it goes to show how inept our refereeing is in this country, there was no waiting for ages for VAR. and the officials seem to be ahead of the diving and cheats, although that early free kick the Geeeeermans got should have gone to us and there player booked not ours,

Overal i'm impressed by them

So next stop is the Stadio Olimpico, is that in the north or south of Wales,
It should have been at Hamden Park,

We lost to Ukraine in 2009 in the Group Stages of the World Cup and to Sweden in an International Friendly in 2012, that should be enough recent history not to be complacent. No better way to enter the QF’s than with momentum and we should have plenty of that.
Completely agree with this. It's like the Dutch , who thought they had an easy draw against the Czech Republic, but forgot their previous encounters to the Czechs.

Never underestimate your enemy, no matter how good the draw etc.

England has done well tonight but it's not a champion worthy team the way the team is now...my opinion.

I'd love to see England win of course but I must admit I find Italy or Belgium way more worthy and skilled to win. ..

....here comes the beating.... 😜😜

Not the ref on the park who is inept its the implentation of VAR in Premiership that has been dire. As an ex ref i would have welcomed VAR but not how they have went about it in England. Hopefully they learn from Euros

Seems so much more assured playing for England than for Everton
Completely agree! Love him or hate him, he was brilliant. He saved two certain goals, and I believe his positioning caused Muller to flub his shot. Shaw was great, but don’t forget Grealish was also involved in both of our goals! A great moment to finally overcome the German hoodoo! Now let’s go on a win the tournament!

That Müller must be in his mid 70s now, he was in his 20s in the 1970 World cup v us,, I think he's played in every England / Germany match since,
and usually scores against us, time to hang up his boots,

I still say the referees in the Premier are very poor now, as said in another thread there is not enough refs to actually choose the quality officials these days. the blame truly lays in the hands of the abuse they get at grass root football.

would we even need VAR if they were good enough ?

Current UEFA Rankings England are No1, FIFA Rankings to 27 May England are No 4 with Belgium holding No1 position.

If these stats are meaningful we should expect a Belgium v England Final baring any further surprises. This would be a massive game for England who have lost three of the last four meetings over the past three years which would make Belgium firm favourites.

Belgium would also be much stronger opponents than Germany were tonight so let’s keep our expectations realistic and take it one game at a time.

I agree with Belgium who are so far undefeated although they do rely heavily on De Bruyne. However Spain have really struggled especially in central defence and only qualified as runners up after poor performances against Sweden and Poland. We mustn’t forget of course that Belgium have Italy to overcome first and a SF v the winners of Spain v Switzerland.

For me Southgate got his tactics absolutely spot on. An experienced starting eleven that made sure we didn’t go behind and kept a clean sheet. Played Raheem Sterling who many thought was a passenger. A substitution that unlocked the game and added pace to the team. Kept faith in Harry Kane knowing he only needed a single chance. Brought on Hendo late on to see us through the final stages.

Next challenge will be to raise our game v Sweden or Ukraine and not do what France did against Switzerland cos there will still be challenges.

A massive chance for England to go on and win this for the first time.

A great night for English football. Never in doubt.
I’m not sure Southgate got the tactics right. We could have easily gone down 2-0 if it wasn’t for Pickford’s brilliant goal keeping. I’d like to see us field a more attacking team in the next round and really go for it. Start with Grealish and Foden, and have a defensive plan B if things go sour. It’s time to accelerate our style of play, and take it on. I’d rather go out kicking and punching than stuttering and scared.

Yep defense is problem for Spain but they looked a quality outfit against Croatia. At Wembley i'd fancy England to turn them over mind.

It’s no good having a defensive Plan B in the KO stages of Tounament Football Comps. Apart from a shaky start and taking time to settle England were by far the better side with some great individual performances especially Pickford, Sterling and Gealish who were outstanding. Apart from Havertz I thought Germany were pretty ordinary and I stick to my thoughts that Southgate should take massive credit for both his team selection and tactics deployed. Absolutely no point going Gung-ho from the start, we tried that v Scotland with Grealish, Foden and Mount all starting and look where that got us, by far our poorest performance so far. Only Harry Kane struggled tonight and even he managed to score.

Goalkeepers are always better when they have confidence in the players in front of them. Nine clean sheets in our last 10 games is enough to give any keeper confidence. Maybe one of the big clubs will start taking a look at him.

Grealish came on around the 63rd minute against Scotland. Mount hasn’t really impressed me, but I know he’s a great player. You may be right Charny, but I think if you’re gonna WIN ko tournaments you have to be bold at some point.

I’m with you on that. Southgate has got to take credit - it’s a win against Germany. Fantastic.

But I wouldn’t say we controlled the game or even kept Germany totally at bay. Pickford made two great saves and Germany should have equalised when they were through. If Germany had taken their chances - not sure we’d be saying Southgate got it right. But he did - because we won!

If that what it takes to get past the Germans - then great, but we need to be more positive. We’ve got some great attacking talent and it’s time to show faith in them. As 9 says - if we want to win the tournament, we have to be brave. Or at least be braver.

Who would have thought that none of the teams out of the group of death would make the last 8.
Not taking anything for granted regarding the game on Saturday as I remember what happened in Nice. Charny, go for it if you can.

DB
You could try and pick a ticket up on the UEFA ticketing portal. You would have to register your details on the UEFA website to create a account.
All tickets are downloaded to your mobile phone. You have to download the Euro 2020 ticketing app after you have purchased the ticket and they are sent to that. Oh for the days when you just got a paper ticket.

As England's footballers concentrate on preparing for the quarter-finals of the Euro 2020 tournament, so will fans. The team, who beat the German side for the first time in the knock-out stage of a major competition since the 1966 World Cup final, will be travelling to Rome for their next fixture against Ukraine on Saturday. But there's little chance for fans hoping to travel to the Italian capital for the match. Italy is on the UK's amber list, and also has its own quarantine rules in place so for most UK travellers the best-case scenario would mean arriving there only to be stuck watching the match in a hotel room. And the Football Association has said it will not be selling tickets because of that. Find out more here.

That’s good. Yep had a e-mail from the FA last night saying there would be no tickets issued to travel club members.

Jaysus H, unreal eh? (Not this forum; the general public) ... The majority whinge their tits off about international breaks and international football in general. Now everyone tripping over themselves to get to Rome.
Mueller ---->> inches away from "Southgate Sucks" "The most inept manager ever" "Finished with England" "These international breaks are pointless" "Pickfords positioning" etc etc etc.

And Rio needs to STFU for you guys. The new Jimmy Hill. Espana 82, going to win it, Mexico 86, going to win it, Italia 90, going to win it etc . Stop jinxing it, Rio ya bellend.

When I was in the stadium yesterday I thought to myself come on Town it’s about time we played at the new Wembley. There are not many clubs that are yet to play there.
