KMc needs to do better only a week until the close of the transfer window and still way behind Paul Cooks 19 🤭😂 seriously though I just hope they gel quickly I would think he will bring them together gradually, in KMc we trust.

I thought Sunderland’s fans would be very unhappy.

Hers’s this mornings Roker Report ;

I think over the last few days I’ve been somewhat in denial about the possibility of Jack Clarke leaving.
Not because I didn’t think he would eventually, cos that would have been daft, but because I never for the life of me expected him to end up at f**king Ipswich Town.
f**king Ipswich? Seriously?! I can’t get my head around that.
In my mind he’s earned a far better move than that — to a club that will no doubt double or triple his wages, but are likely to be slap bang back in the Championship twelve months from now. I always thought he’d end up somewhere like West Ham, or Wolves, or Brentford even. At a club that has a bit of stability and are a significant step up from playing at the level we find ourselves in currently.
I hold no ill-will towards him though. Yes, he’s experienced the hero worship of our fanbase and together we’ve experienced some fabulous memories, but the unfortunate reality is that unlike Anthony Patterson, Chris Rigg and Dan Neil, Jack Clarke didn’t grow up dreaming one day of being a first team footballer at Sunderland.
That said, this has been his home. This was his home when he didn’t really have a home — in many respects it was at Sunderland where he rescued his career. He made a bad move going from Leeds to Tottenham at such a young age, and had a series of failed loan moves in the Championship which really could have seen him shoot even further down the divisions had he not ended up with us.
His first season as a loanee wasn’t great, but the potential was there and then eventually he flourished into the player we see before us today — a confident, tricky right footed left winger who on his day skips past defenders with ease and can score the type of goals that most players can only dream of.
I am sad that it has now come to an end, not only because we’re losing a fabulous footballer but because the deal just doesn’t feel right to me on paper, aside from the fact it’s Ipswich he’s going to. Given the kinds of money players of lesser ability have moved for over the summer, I’m amazed that the club have agreed to a deal of just £15 million (with another five in add-ons that we’re unlikely to ever see). Tottenham will reportedly take a 25% chunk of that, meaning we’re left with peanuts. There’s simply no way you can replace a player like that with ten million quid, not these days.
What we have to hope is that the club have planned accordingly for this situation.
We might not be able to replace Clarke like for like, but we can spread the goals around the team more and sign strikers that will make up for what we’ll lose at the top end of the pitch.
Hopefully we see enough in the likes of Tommy Watson — who is far younger than Clarke but very similar, and ripping it up in his own right — and Romaine Mundle to kick us on and pick up the mantle, with Ian Poveda also coming through the door this summer to provide extra competition, albeit mainly down the other side of the pitch.
Hopefully there’s even more wriggle room in the budget to go out in the final week of the window and sign more quality players that can help Sunderland to remain competitive. We’ve had such a brilliant start to the season, and this is undoubtedly a blow, but we can’t wallow. We must move forward without him and find ways to not only maintain, but improve.
It’s a sad day but also a proud one. I’m proud of the player he’s become and I’m only really sorry that he wasn’t able to fulfill his ambitions as a player with Sunderland.
Go well Jack, and good luck.
And to Sunderland’s owner and Sporting Director — I hope you have a plan.

Given they paid Tottenham £10m for him only a year ago and have to give them 25% of the profit it means they only bag £3.75m for their star player who still has 3yrs of his 4yr contract left to run. That to me looks a very bad deal for Sunderland FC.

This annoys me a bit, even if we go down then yes he will be back in the championship but at a team with a squad WAY above that of Sunderlands.

If Wolves and Brentford aren't after him its becuase he isn't looking good enough for them, they are spending £25-30m+ on players. So it sits right with me, the fee is around what you'd expect us to be paying and for a player like him.

Make sense? 15-20m is our level at present, 25-35m is the next level of player, for the next level of club.

Mid table is rather ambitions IMO. I would be happy just to stay up.
Some of the squads are very strong.

A lot of our important players for last season were brought in during the previous January window, they were here for 8 months before the season started.

Now McKenna has a mega scramble to get this all working as quick as possible, some excellent players coming in, but we're right up against it in terms of getting organised and firing.

Have to hold my hands up and admit I never thought we would spend this amount on transfers this window. Fair do’s to Ashton and the owners in doing what they said in this window regarding strengthening the squad.
The Clarke transfer if it goes through is a very good bit of business imo. Rate it as highly as the Greaves transfer. Now getting ready to leave for Manchester for tomorrow’s game and although I don’t expect anything from the game there is always the chance I am wrong again.

I cannot believe we are getting Clarke at that price with 2 years on his contract left, if it was going into the final 12 months then yes but this is crazy. No wonder their fans aren't overly impressed.

The next week or so is going to be equally as busy, this time for players departing Portman Road, I think the new CB will be the only further arrival with Ahmedhodzic the most likely name.

Leaving us in the next few days I can see Ladapo, Donacien (although technically already gone), Edmundson or Burgess !!! Al-Hamadi (Loan) and possibly Taylor and/or Harness. To be honest I'm disappointed if Al-Hamadi does go as I am Harness and Taylor but we just can't fit everyone in now. I think Slicker may go out on loan too meaning we may make another addition with a Third choice, back up Keeper.

Tricky isn't it, I think a lot comes down to the will of the player, a lot of players are actually happy being backups, being part of the squad and the experience, not getting much or any game time, while others will be desperate for it.

Edmundson seemed very happy in his bit part role last season, while Ladapo didn't, so I'm sure we'll see the latter leave. Edmundson and Burgess offer different things and if we have 5 at the back as a potential system, then they could very well both stay.

Pick up an injury or two, Morsy gets his inevitable suspensions, then Taylor could get some game time, but lets be real, it's unlikely he'll get more than the odd sub appearance, depends if he's happy with that. The other comment on Taylor is that he doesn't really fit (I don't think), he's not going to go further up the pitch and compete with Chaplin and Szmodics, and he's not a holding midfielder like the other centre midfielders.

Al-Hamadi, especially when Hirst and Broadhead are back, he's going to be right down the list (same for Harness), so at his age, he has to get a full Championship season I should think, especially as he hasn't played much above League 2!

Slicker will probably hang around, depending on his ambition and ability level, he's still very young and we'll need 3 keepers at the club.

I personally think that's a far far better option than Ahmedhodzic

Yeah, I get that, it's not great, but he wouldn't come here if he doesn't think he can completely commit. He's obviously been relegated with Burnley who were excellent in the Championship previously and had a young exciting manager of their own, so you can't blame him for seeing other teams as a safer opportunity to stay in the Premiership and progress?? As soon as he's in Town, sees the players, the setup and how McKenna works, I'm sure he'll be pretty enthused pretty sharpish.

If O'Shea is indeed considering a move to Ipswich, I'm sure he's already spoken to Muric about the set up and the manager.

There's no doubt about it, we do need some decent central defenders. Wonder if we might try for both O'Shea znd the Sheffield Utf CB?
