Re: World Cup 2022?!
Saw a news item just recent where the English have been provided one of D1ck Branson's exclusive jets, the flagship LGBT 'Rainbow' to enforce view about Qatar's stance of what they view immoral. Airplane staff wore specific 'gender friendly' uniform, not sure if Southgate and players followed suit.
Believe they're the only nation participating doing this 'idea' or whatever the f*ck it is or to put it another way no other team would seem to go to such extremes.
More a promotion / media opportunity than just saying 'we don't agree with your nation's philosophies'. May be in a minority but even at such early stage the whole thing out there appears on way to becoming even more of a circus act.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
It is quite ironic that Qatar basically bought the world cup to increase their popularity in the world, and instead it's just universally highlighted their human right issues and corruption

Re: World Cup 2022?!
That is very true.
Even if the football doesn’t live up to expectation, the politics will and it’ll be very intriguing.
FTR, got to think the football WILL live up and it’ll create memorable memories!
Qatar themselves will score a 40-yard raker v Ecuador…….. book it

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Ridiculous, 2 days before the tournament, after everyone has booked their tickets and flights. There's going to be a fair few flash points huh?
I thought the only way this tournament would go off without event is if the police forces took a lenient, or 'western' approach for the duration, seems that might not be the case.

As a non-drinker it's not something you (I) can now easily relate to but point being the powers that be knew damn well the guidelines and legislation of the country before any decision was made to host the event there.
It's a bit short notice to make changes and got to imagine the aspect of drink-related incident will or should be minimized but crowd / fan behavior isn't just down to one thing.
One final point here, thought there were some ongoing Nations League things underway a month or two back. England got whacked by Hungary, played Italy and Germany thereafter (didn't win). What they do with that, brush it under the rug or the whole thng fell by the wayside, they didn't even complete the damn competition/s or whatever it were. What the hell were they doing playing out those games so close to a World Cup tournament anyhow. We'll let it rest.

Am I right in thinking the only Alcohol was going to be Budweiser at £12 a bottle? I think they’ve done everyone a favour by banning it.

Obscene indeed, but I bet you a bottle of water is £11.50
I guess at least if you're down to your last few pennies you could get a pint of crude for about £0.08

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Hey AP, that UEFA Nations League thing you correctly recall is still in play. The League Phase ran 1 June - 27 September and the 4 remaining teams. Croatia, Spain, Italy and Netherlands will play the Seni Final & Final 14/18 June 2023.arana peligrosa wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 5:42 pmAs a non-drinker it's not something you (I) can now easily relate to but point being the powers that be knew damn well the guidelines and legislation of the country before any decision was made to host the event there.

The Nations League is also a Qualifying Competition for UEFA Euros 2024.

Was asked earlier to name three Qatar players.
Said "George Harrison, Hendrix, and Bryan Adams"
Didn't get much in way of response.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Any thoughts on Gianni Infantino's outburst? Mine initially are: sucking up to the Qataris; more brown envelopes; untimely; response to Sepp Blatter: Finally: money, money, money and continued corruption.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
Ok…….. task for Roden & Mike…… create a comedy sketch. Get the questions asked to Infantino……, and lets hear your answers. Got to make it real though. You got to make it as if YOU were Infantino.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
By the way…….. after the FIFA FBI investigation, all soccer fans can probably take comfort that the organisations “brown envelope days” may be a thing of the past.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
First 6 minutes…… controversy. Perfectly legal Ecuador goal chopped off.
Maybe those brown envelopes with Qatari cash are still in circulation after all.

Re: World Cup 2022?!
That was such an outrageous VAR decision and there’s 7 of them in the VAR studio that reached that decision, so that’s 7 Brown Envelopes !

I think when teams go out to kick the opposition from the first whistle and their fans leave at half time... It's probably a sign they know they're no good too!

Re: World Cup 2022?!
There’s no way Iran will end this game with this referee who’s dished out 9 red cards in his last 10 games.
