Raheem Sterling score’s his first World Cup goal at the third attempt after blanks at Russia and Brazil.

I usually have a Monday off, the trouble is I work late on Fridays, so I'll miss the USA game.

6-1 now

… Jack Grealish. There won’t be many if any who predicted this result.

Holy sh*t, another 10 mins added time, and that’s after 14 mins added time in the first half. Oh well, good match practice for extra time.

VAR is the only thing worse than Qatar's human rights record right now.

Another VAR controversy, thank god it wasn’t important.
England 6-2 Iran, nothing like Ipswich v Cheltenham

That’s because 54% of England’s shots were on target compared with Ipswich’s 13% on target.

Compare that penalty VAR decision with the early shout for s penalty when McGuire was rugby tackled to the ground. It’s just ridiculous but given the margins of the result hardly mattered same as yesterdays shocking decision in Qatar’s favour.
I just dread the thought of the VAR team making result changing decisions as they seem clueless.

The reason this was such a good win is because unlike England’s dire record going into the World Cup, Iran had only lost 3 of their last 23 matches and most recently beat Uraguay 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Senegal.
I don’t think the team could have dreamt a better start and a great confidence boost for the next two group games v Wales and USA.

The intensity of Premier League seasons I think often physically and mentally exhausts our players when the international comps come up. Perhaps it'll. Actually be in their favour this time, providing greater sharpness than other teams/leagues.
My negativity says don't peak too soon and don't give your game away, but I'm going to tell myself to shut up on this occasion. The amount of attacking options Southgate has at his disposal is unbelievable! Though I would swap one or two or them for a bit more defensive talent!

Welsh haven’t changed eh? They like a wee dive and a roll around, slapping the turf.

Memories of Bale @ Hampden.
