Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Ironic how the guy who took him to Charlton (Appleton) was sacked earlier today! Funny old game, innit?

I think that was on the cards and why it was only a loan move, to be fair Freddie is a great league one striker so the club would want him regardless of who the manager is.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Doubt whether he thought ‘my sacking is imminent’ when he was negotiating FL’s loan! His comments following the move were positive about what Freddie would bring to his team. But, as ever in football, even a day’s a long time! Agree, though, that Freddie would be an asset to most L1 clubs. Hope he does well there in spite of today’s news.

I think that’s a bit presumptuous, Shabba. If Appleton knew he was getting the sack, why would he choose the players who came in. I dunno, maybe Ladapo wasn’t his choice? You may be right in that recruitment was taken out of Appleton’s hands though.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
It’s a cutthroat business. But everyone gets paid at the end of the day. Even Lambert got his contractual compensation. Other than humility, being a manager in professional football is certainly auspicious regardless of failure. If only that applied to the regular folks living paycheck to paycheck trying to make ends meet.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Remember it’s different now, the ‘head coach’ will have a say in transfers but there will be a recruitment team driving things and the club will have the bigger say as in todays world players tend to be at clubs longer than managers.number 9 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 10:57 pmI think that’s a bit presumptuous, Shabba. Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Whatever the circumstances surrounding FL’s move, a deal’s been done - although we don’t know the fine detail, eg any recall option, or make the deal permanent in the summer. Would think his return to our squad is unlikely - the way KM sets up doesn’t suit Freddie’s game, whilst we’ll hopefully have reinforcements in the building and GH will be back in the saddle.
Think, also, that whilst the bigger clubs have recruitment set ups, identifying potential targets and having the final say at L1 level will invariably be down to the manager. Similar to how we operate.

You were, and no doubt still are, Mashtons biggest supporter. You never wavered when all the Bristol City BS was being spouted.
I couldn’t stand the, what i thought was a pointless money drain position job, …., but even i have some form of anticipation waiting to see who he’ll (Mash) bring in. If anyone of course.
Still 6 days……. Plenty time…….. huge signing 23:55, 31st Jan!

I am his biggest fan yes, bloke has been incredible, I actually think business may have been done and its just a matter of when it's worth announcing/completing etc, as somebody said, new signings won't be playing this weekend so why not wait.marko69 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 12:44 pmYou were, and no doubt still are, Mashtons biggest supporter. I think it's actually now quicker to list those we haven't been linked with, than those we have...

If we signed all the players we have been linked with we would have an entirely new squad.Ricco wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 2:15 pmShed on tour wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 2:04 pmAli Al-Hamadi latest name to be linked according to EADT.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Might be something in this one as both the local press and Phil Ham have picked up on it now, in view that the club appear to have a policy of keeping things quiet as much as possible.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
No sure about that, he looks a half decent finisher and is young, but it would be a pretty sorry situation if we end up placing our hopes on a player jumping two divisions and performing. If he's brought in as a bonus with potential, lovely stuff, but surely we're after a bit more tried and tested?Shed on tour wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 2:50 pmMight be something in this one as both the local press and Phil Ham have picked up on it now, in view that the club appear to have a policy of keeping things quiet as much as possible.

Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
I would think and hope that we would still be looking at bringing in a established striker on loan for the remainder of the season. As you say if we do sign Al-Hamadi it would be more for his potential.Ricco wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:00 pmNo sure about that, he looks a half decent finisher and is young, but it would be a pretty sorry situation if we end up placing our hopes on a player jumping two divisions and performing. Re: JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
At least Al-Hamadi appears more promising than most of the other attacking dross we have been linked with. I mentioned this guy in the Wimbledon cup preview.

So Humphries could be going out on loan . A number of League One clubs are after him apparently…

Would make sense, he's just rotting here unused otherwise. Davis is one of the few or only that doesn't get rotated it seems.hallamblue wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:06 pmSo Humphries could be going out on loan . A number of League One clubs are after him apparently…
No mention of RB cover or improvement though, Clarke's injury niggles have seemed to have quietened down for the time being.

We cannot move out Humpreys unless a LB cover comes in.Ricco wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:09 pmWould make sense, he's just rotting here unused otherwise. Yeh, I meant after someone like that Marc Bola, who was being discussed, comes in...shabba wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:31 pmWe cannot move out Humpreys unless a LB cover comes in.Ricco wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:09 pmWould make sense, he's just rotting here unused otherwise. Especially since I don't believe LB is Humphries preferred or best position. It was surely a mistake not letting him have a season long loan from the summer, it's pretty clear that he's down the pecking order here.

Let's hope this Wimbledon striker works out better than the last one, piggott had also scored a lot of goals.
