One more goal would have been a tennis score! First set to Germany! Ad Germany! Double fault Scotland!

Moderators: Charnwood, Bluemike
The only slight “bother” last night was a jambo in the pub saying, “Everyone loves a 5-1”……. Which i actually thought was quite witty and humorous……. Sadly one nuggetheid didn’t like it and was thankfully turfed out.
You any idea if there is a Serbia T-Shirt shop in Edinburgh?
And Fabregas is right now agreeing with you 100% , Hallam.
Definitely! A nervy second half but when you look at our first game stats in big competitions you have to take 3 points regardless.hallamblue wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 9:54 pmPhew! Glad to get that one out of the way … Serbia are a good side.
I think you may be underestimating the danger the opposition could inflict. I thank god that they showed us almost too much respect in the first half because they were a totally different team second half. You only play as well as your opponents allow you to.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 12:34 amI can’t wait until Southgate is gone. We should have gone on attack after the early goal against Italia in the last one. We have the most talented team in decades, but Southgate’s tactics strangles the abilities of players like Kane & Foden. Hope we fail so Southgate gets fired.

I would say it is Southgate's fault, he is the manager, he is meant to know whether a player will be affective in a certain role and posistion. I said before the tournament that Foden shouldn't start, and I stand by that. I think Foden is a Scholes problem, he's so bloody good that the manager feels compelled to make him fit. Problem is, he doesn't fit, and the fact that Southgate hasn't realised that, or hasn't grown a pair to make a tough decision, suggests to me that we are doomed to repeat history.hallamblue wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 7:38 amFoden went AWOL ( that's not Southgate’s fault is it). Foden is a number 10, but is he better than Bellingham? I’d say no, by a country mile JB is the better player.
But it is Southgate's fault, Liz. He's had 8 years in the job and still hasn't sussed the difference between club and country management.hallamblue wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 7:38 amI think you may be underestimating the danger the opposition could inflict. For me, Kane was largely shackled for 90 mins, Foden went AWOL ( that's not Southgate’s fault is it). Foden is a number 10, but is he better than Bellingham? I’d say no, by a country mile JB is the better player.
First half the opposition deployed this low block so we had to be patient and pass the ball about. We managed to get the early goal, but still they didn’t really attack us much in that first half, largely because we kept possession. Second half , different story. They attacked us and we had to defend deep. The tables were completely turned.
I’d say that was a very good result against a very strong yet underrated team, who I reckon will finish 2nd in the group.
England just need another win now.
It's not bizarre, Mike. I have long accepted that I am a dinosaur that likes to see attacking football like it was in the old days, and it's difficult for me to accept some of the changes in the game over the last 50 years or so. Mind you, I absolutely fail to see how Sky could have rated Rice 9/10 last night but I suspect politics (not wanting to fall out with his club) has a lot to do with it, same as for many of the absurdly high ratings given to certain players last night by various media. That's the trouble with English media - too afraid to speak ther minds when it comes to England performances.
