Could be a tricky deal to do that. I suspect they will sell either him or that winger ‘Philogean’ or however it’s pronounced, apparently he might be going to Barcelona?!

Really big fan of Greaves, I bigged him up when we played them at the end of last season but again the money being quoted is daft.

Out of interest Mike, what would you value some of our best players at?
Its difficult as IMO its about the team rather than any superstars, but Davis must be worth 15-20m+. Others maybe don't have a big value?

Davis is the ONLY one worth 15m +
Morsy would be if a few years younger
Nobody else worth more than 5 to 6 million ,(Broadhead)

Yeah I'd agree, much as values are high in todays world - I can't see many of our squad having a big value. Just shows how amazing we have done to get where we are without any megastars!

Being a free its good but id rather pay him signing on fee and a lower salary to not unbalance things so much, if we get related we dont want players on huge salaries - ala leeds!

We’ll probably be paying ludicrous wages even with transfer fees which is another reason we need to be careful spending ludicrous amounts for transfer fees.

Totally agree. Hopefully this is just pure speculation about his salary as if we have too many players on that sort of wages then if we get relegated then we could be in trouble again financially. Also it could lead to disharmony amongst the squad especially those who got us to the Premiership.shabba wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 11:43 amhttps://www.westhamzone.com/transfers/b ... d-in-days/

I get the anxiety re spending and financial meltdown. But I think we are s much better and more ginsnvidlly savvy run club these days. I know Ashton was ridiculed by Bristol fans for
(As they saw it), over spending and leaving them in debt as a result. I don't think Toen'a owners would sanction sounding that wasn't within the PL rules or the owners ability to pay. So im feeling kind of easy about it all really.

Town are reported to have opened negotiations with Chelsea regarding the permanent signing of former loanee Omari Hutchinson.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that a Blues offer was expected with the 20-year-old, who has been training ahead of pre-season overseas, still to make a decision on his future.
The West Londoners were said to want a fee of around £30 million with his former club Arsenal due a chunk of the figure they ultimately receive via a sell-on clause, however, previous reports cited a deal worth up to £20 million.
Now, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the clubs have opened negotiations with boss Kieran McKenna’s decision to stay at Portman Road said to be a key factor.
The deal is expected to include a sell-on clause but no buyback with discussions continuing.
VfB Stuttgart were widely linked earlier in the summer along with Dutch giants Ajax but while not dead, their interest is believed to have waned recently.
Jamaica international Hutchinson made a huge impression on loan as Town won promotion to the Premier League, winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award after netting 11 times and picking up six assists in his first senior season.
Earlier in the summer, Chelsea took up an option to extend Hutchinson’s contract until the summer of 2026.

Omari would surely improve even more under KMc and would have to and hopefully he realises that and his value would increase but at the moment just over £20 million is as much as we should pay IMO.

Agree with all that. Suspect it will be a chunk of cash with some of it made up in add-on's.Cabanas Blue wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:55 pmOmari would surely improve even more under KMc and would have to and hopefully he realises that and his value would increase but at the moment just over £20 million is as much as we should pay IMO.

I think we may well see Hutchinson at Portman Road next season but even at £20m this is a huge amount of money for a guy who’s made just one appearance in the Premier League and was worth less than half this amount before he came on loan to Ipswich.
Surely the fees being asked for players this transfer window are bordering on ridiculous and are unsustainable.

Welcome to the Real World ..we Want him. They want to sell .jst look at goals he scored for us and assists..without them .more than likely we wouldn't be sitting on a pot of 120 mill.and if he keeps us in the Premiership another season it will be money well spent

Couldn't agree more. Its madness but I guess we have to keep faith in Ashton and Co to keep things in order and hope for the best but plan for the worst. I still say £20M+ for a guy who, whilst very good and I would welcome back, couldn't het in our Championship first team 6 months ago is silly - he is not worth it. I also fear that his size will make him easy to pick off for Prem defenders as he is not the most robust of wingers. Just my view and what do I know anyway?

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Hutchinson’s value when he came on loan was circa £4m, it’s a shame we didn’t loan him with a purchase option at the end of the season given his increase in value is mainly as a result of McKenna’s coaching. As Blue Wilf has said when he arrived he couldn’t even get a place in the starting line up of our Championship team for his first 6 months.

The reality is that now we're playing with the big boys - you can argue whether or not an individual player is worth his asking price - and of course no players are worth half as much as the fee paid for them - but that's the reality of where we are. If you want to strengthen the squad, you have to pay the going rate regardless of how ridiculous it is.Blue Wilf wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 6:38 amCouldn't agree more. We have the option of taking the moral high ground, not playing ball, making do with the squad we have, and getting almost certain relegation: or the option of biting the bullet and paying the asking prices in order to maximise our chances of staying up. GC are ambitious, it's not rocket science which option they will take.

Spot on Rossi.
Also I've said before, look how rapidly he progressed under KMC, he looked very average in pre season and was a star player in the championship by the end of the season.
If he can keep developing he could be a £50m+ player.
Even if you bought him for £20m, had him 3 years then sold him on for similar money then the overall 'cost of asset' would be just the wages. At least with young english players they tend to have some sell on value. If you buy a seasoned 31 year old like Almeron for 20m you'll never see a penny of that back.
*also we at least know Omari can be a leading championship player, so even if we got relegated we have someone who can star in that league.

I think it’s more a players wages than the purchase price, that is the issue. I’m sure Town ( like a lot of clubs now) will be future proofing their financial security in those contract negotiations re wages should relegation happen. It’d be madness if we didn’t.Bluemike wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 11:37 pmI agree Andy, and if we don't stay up disaster loomsCharnwood wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 10:21 pmI think we may well see Hutchinson at Portman Road next season but even at £20m this is a huge amount of money for a guy who’s made just one appearance in the Premier League and was worth less than half this amount before he came on loan to Ipswich.

Yes wages can kill you if you go down. 50k a week is 2.6m a year, so not a big issue if your getting 100m TV money, if that runs out and you have no paracut payments then its a big issue.hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 8:46 amI think it’s more a players wages than the purchase price, that is the issue. Realistically I'd suspect we can afford 50m a year wages - averages out at 38k per week for 25 players when in the prem. That figure is prob 11k a week in the champ without para payments, so you can see the importance of having them but also having wage decrease clauses of say 30-50% upon relegation. If you can keep your wage bill OK ish and even if you bounce up and down the divisons its just about do-able, its if you stay down and lose the para payments AND still have high earners on the books then you have a big issue. (aka Norwich).

The one thing I have total faith in is Mark Ashton, irrespective of what the Bristol city fans think Ashton is a very astute guy and will get his figures spot on and that instills confidence in me that if we splash 20 or 30 million on someone it's because we can, that doesn't mean I think we should if the player in question seems too expensive. And FWIW I don't think we'll be relegated with the right 5/6/7 signings.

Saying he will be on £60,000 a week at Town, hard to believe surely.

FWIW,Phil Ham (TWTD), has said he has been told the figures being bandied about re Omari are vastly overinflated.

The WH fan I know liked him. It's a risk to some extent due to wages, but it also is a free, and a number of Prem clubs wanted him - even WH offered him a new deal, so he is hopefully OK at least.
