I absolutely bet they take just as long. It's just we aren't as focussed on it, I've defo seen transfers going on weeks at other clubs this window. I don't see why its any different at town, especially given the market we are in - i.e we cannot be compared to stoke as that is different market, we can only be compare to Saints and Leicester really - i.e newly promoted teams fishing in a lower prem/upper champ pool.hallamblue wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 2:47 pmALL our transfer dealings appear to be so epic compared to other clubs dealing. Gallagher has signed for Stoke. That hadn't taken weeks has it.Cabanas Blue wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 12:24 pmTaken from Phil TWTD about Szmodics.
Wasn't done as of Saturday but was getting closer. Once the fee is agreed, which think it will in pretty short order even if it hasn't already unless Blackburn prove to be unnecessarily difficult, then I think it will happen very quickly after that.

Well as I said before we should know what it is like dealing with this lot from what went on regarding the Gallagher situation last year.hallamblue wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 5:00 pmLike I said, “ epic”!

Think Ashton should tell them we aren’t going to be pissed about again and move on elsewhere if necessary.

Smith-Rowe to Fulham for a reported £27m plus 7m add ons, really shows the market is still strong. Fringe Arsenal player - very strong money.
Could be a good signing but shows the market we are in. I’ve heard they are trying to get 50m euros for Nketieh!
Very hard to get anyone on the cheap now unless buying from league one or possibly small European clubs.
Or the odd free agent.

Chide me if you like, but I’ve gave my opinion in previous posts. This is new territory for MA & company and it’s proving to be a ruthless market. We’ll get a few more in, but we probably won’t be ready for top six teams. Whatever I’m enjoying the ride. I’m glad I’m not Mr Ashton because the poor guy is probably stressed to the max, and doing his best to get deals done. There’s just not enough time to prepare for the Prem and we can only do our best.Shed on tour wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 5:27 pmWell as I said before we should know what it is like dealing with this lot from what went on regarding the Gallagher situation last year.hallamblue wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 5:00 pmLike I said, “ epic”!

Yeah exactly - he will be doing his best along with the other staff and we have already made five signings at the early pre-season stage.
Those first two games are tough and so let’s just get past them and take it from there.
Re Gallagher - maybe they didn’t want him, his high wages so happy to get rid. They probably are less inclined to let their star asset go - especially after losing their last star asset in Jan.
I’m sure if someone came in for Ladapo it wouldn’t take long if the other club were keen!

There is the school of thought, “ we got promoted too soon”! But this step up to PL hits every newly promoted team. The only difference is we’ve come up from League One with mostly the same players. That’s a HUGE step up and I doubt many in our squad will make that transition comfortably, unfortunately.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 8:12 pmChide me if you like, but I’ve gave my opinion in previous posts. Think we should go 5-3-2 against Liverpool and try to catch them on the break with Omari or Burns on the wings. Slot will have them controlling the midfield, so we’ll need reinforcements in the back. Should be interesting because that’s not the way KM likes to play. Hope Muric is a good shot stopper because he’ll be peppered in that first match.
Can we win it, no. Can we manage damage, yes. As long as we don’t capitulate and lose by 5 or more I’ll be somewhat content.
Gardiola has already stated he’ll be resting starters, so maybe we’ll get a result from that one.

I was surprised when McKenna came out publicly after the game on Saturday and said we need a lot more signings to be capable of competing in the Premiership.
For me that straight away gives any selling club the idea that we are desperate to make signings and they then feel they have the upper hand from the start in any negotiations.

I don’t think KMs comments have any affect on business. Doesn’t take a layman to acknowledge we’re desperate. KM is just speaking to fans.Shed on tour wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:30 pmI was surprised when McKenna came out publicly after the game on Saturday and said we need a lot more signings to be capable of competing in the Premiership.

I felt he was a bit peed off at the performance/result and was being clear that he needs more to compete. I suspect we’ll push over 100m now - a tad scary.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:49 pmI don’t think KMs comments have any affect on business. Doesn’t take a layman to acknowledge we’re desperate. I don’t see it like that at all Shed because selling clubs will know exactly how much we’ve spent already circa £60m and that we have to comply with the Premier League FFR’s which will prevent us from being able to overpay unless we’re prepared to risk a points deduction

Just seems strange to me Charny that KM came out and said it so openly when now we keep a lot of things in house. If we do bring in several new high fee signings then I have to admit I will be concerned how we will comply with FFR’s rules.Charnwood wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:59 pmI don’t see it like that at all Shed because selling clubs will know exactly how much we’ve spent already circa £60m and that we have to comply with the Premier League FFR’s which will prevent us from being able to overpay unless we’re prepared to risk a points deduction

If we stay up it’ll be ok. When you sign a player usually you pay instalments over the length of the contract, so it won’t all be going out in this years books/FFP quota. Naturally things unravel quickly if you go down as the tv money cuts in half and then even less for 2 years after before ending entirely. It’ll mean the more we spend this year the less we’ll have in future seasons though, even if we stay up.Shed on tour wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 10:11 pmJust seems strange to me Charny that KM came out and said it so openly when now we keep a lot of things in house. Of course we can win it - it's 11 vs 11 and anything can happen on the day.
All I can say is it's a good job you're not the manager because going in to a game thinking you're gonna lose is a surefire way of losing.
I'm one of the more pessimistic members of this forum, but it will not surprise me in the least if we win our opening game.

On balance you would expect Liverpool to win but they are under a new manager also in Slot and adapting to a new style so might not quite be the Liverpool everyone has been used to.
First game of the season and Town will be well up for it so for me any result is possible.
Really looking forward to how Town perform this season and how McKenna performs at Premiership level.

The major positive this season with just about all the games, is we're not expected to win them. We're well and truly the under dogs. So as long as we can defend reasonably well, when not in possession, anything is possible.

I remember a home game against Leeds, previous seasons Prem champions at PR. Was it Paul Goddard who scored a couple? Didn't we win 4-1? Were we just promoted?
It was a long time ago so maybe the details.....
Rossi & Valleyroad, spot on. We and our crowd will be well up for this one. I don't see why we can't do well and who knows?

Cantona played up front for Leeds and was dross. Couldn't see what the big deal was about him.
Signed for Man Utd and played against Town in the new year. He played in midfield that day and was world class !
Oh for a striker at Premiership level to match Goddard !

I should have said, "probably not". I think it's obvious the goal of any manager and team is to win every match, but that isn't always a realistic outcome. It's just my opinion based on our current starting 11 options. My opinion could change by the time the Liverpool match arrives if we have new additions.rossi wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 8:36 amSorry, but that's utter claptrap.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:24 pmThink we should go 5-3-2 against Liverpool and try to catch them on the break with Omari or Burns on the wings. I think it's a combination of the US preseason and the Euros. Here's what he said about the start to the Prem season:
“We will arrive late but not (just) against Manchester United, against Chelsea and Ipswich too,” he said. “We will be late. It’s about trying not to drop many points, try to compete well. We don’t have players because they have to rest.”

One out as expected Ndaba has joined Kilmarnock on a three year deal.
