Struggling to see the logic here, Ricco - if you pepper the goal and some go in and some go out I don't see what league you're playing in will have any bearing on the outcome. Actually I would welcome the opponents goal being peppered, we're not doing much of that so far.Ricco wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 10:13 amPersonally I'd be very disappointed in getting Lath, and would consider it a panic buy, I'd rather back Delap, that's for sure. Lath for me is someone who peppers the goal and something will end up going in every other game in the Championship, but I don't see it in the Prem, he seems very short on quality and is only about goals, not teamwork, build up etc.

The thing with stats is that they don't tell you the quality of the players around him. I always thought Lath was a threat when he played us. Again, in MA and KMc, I trust cos they are the ones who need to seal the deal and get this whole new squad firing. I am excited - just remember the boring transfer windows we suffered for 20 years... still have to pinch myself to think how far we have come. From the pit of despair to a beacon of hope - COYB's!!

Broja deal could be back on according to Sky

Sky also said earlier that it was very early negotiations for Latte Lath.

It was also reported that he could be out for 12 weeks and not 7. If true really can’t see the sense in this one as we need somebody who is fit now. Just hope Delap doesn’t get injured tomorrow.

I guess I was eluding to exactly that, we're not going to manage to pepper opponents goals this season, we need someone who is more clinical with the few opportunities we do create, I think we need accuracy over volume this season. It's not really a damning blow against Lath, more a comment on his style, I don't know what I'm talking about really.rossi wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 12:39 pmStruggling to see the logic here, Ricco - if you pepper the goal and some go in and some go out I don't see what league you're playing in will have any bearing on the outcome. That's why I think the goal contribution is quite good, no stats are perfect etc etc etc,
Player A: 50% of his team's goals, 12 goals in that season
Player B: 20% of his team's goals, 20 goals in that season
I think the percentage tells more of the story, because it helps to remove the quality of the team variable. Yes of course, there are many other variables, but it does have validity.
If I told you that Denkey scored 25 goals in 35 games, that's impressive, if I tell you that his team as a whole only netted 51 times including those 25, it makes it that much more impressive. Haaland scored 27 last season, so that's better, but his team scored 96 in total, so you'd wager he had more opportunities, make sense?
Haaland scored 28% of his team's goals, Denkey scored 49%, so that means Denkey is 1.75x better a player than Haaland, you simply can't argue against that. Get it done Ashton.

This would be absolutely bloody ridiculous if true, 3 months out with Hirst still not fit and if what we've read is true we have an obligation to buy if we stay up for 30 Million? Irrespective of whether Broja has a sh*te season, bordering on incompetence for me.Shed on tour wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 1:20 pm

yeah, I agree that we are not going to create too many chances for our striker, therefore quality will be far moe important than quantity.
With that in mind, I have not been impressed by Delap so far, but the way he took his penalty the other night leads me to suppose that he could do very well with the right supply. Just need to create a bit more and improve the final ball.

McKenna now saying it's less than likely we'll sign anyone, bit of a disaster if that comes to pass. We just won't score enough goals with what we have.

And there was me getting all excited about Denkey...
I get you Mike, Delap was always a touch of an odd signing to me, but don't despair, remember that our goals have come from a pretty even spread across the front 4 in the last couple of seasons, and Szmodics, Clarke and Hutchinson (our presumed 3 men behind Delap/Hirst) have all proven to be pretty prolific, even if a division down. Those front 4 positions may only need to average 8-10 goals each this season to give us a good run at things.

Rico / you talk alot of sense.
I’d personably rather not see us spend another £15/20m on someone fairly average. I think there are goals across that front three behind the striker.

Don't get me wrong I like Delap and Szmodics, excellent signings but any team, no matter where need minimum 2 number 9s, I guess with the news Hirst isn't far away from a return makes a purchase less of a priority but no guarantee old biscuit legs will return the same player.Ricco wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 2:51 pmAnd there was me getting all excited about Denkey...

Emmanuel Latte Lath is staying at Middlesbrough despite late interest from Ipswich.
Sources have told Sky Sports News that the striker did not travel with the squad to Cardiff for Saturday’s game.
He will not be in the matchday squad at the Cardiff City stadium, live on Sky Sports+ at 12.30pm tomorrow.

Well 92 goals last season and not many scored from a centre forward so I'm taking that as a plus saying that I'm not expecting 92 goals this season
unless you count goals against as well.🫣
Seriously if we don't get anyone tonight we will just have to get them from all over and it's possible.

THat's what it says in the article:
"But according to Ornstein it’s actually a foot injury – one that will keep him out until mid-October. It seemed that Ipswich were spooked, but now they’re back in on the deal, and new terms are being hammered out as the deadline closes in."
All a bit weird. But as always I trust the team, especially if the 30m is now not part of the deal, as the article also says.
