Don't celebrate yet. It doesn't mean that parties can't come in for him. It just means that nobody thought he is worth £35m.

Also there might have been a bid which we haven’t been told about yet.

I do still wonder if the club might do business if someone comes to the table with that sort of money, I’m not clear on our transfer budget - we do seem to have cash to spend - and I’d imagine we overspent last year - I know it’s amortised though.
Our wage bill will be massively higher than it was when we were last in the champ, I know we have parachute payments to help though but we must be fairly close to the max losses over a three year period.

If OH agent had a £35m release clause written into his contract, then id be amazed if Town would take less. We don't have to, hes on a 4 yr deal. And since no one triggered that release clause ( nothings been said by the club/ press) i can only assume no PL is willing to stump up £35m PLUS pay off his 4 yr contract. Pity Delaps agent didn't c*ck up the same way, lol

They wouldn’t have to pay up his contract - it doesn’t work like that in transfers.

Agree though it would seem he is alot less likely to leave now, UNLESS the club needs money to balance the books. He is the most valuable / saleable asset

Well if we do sell OH, it should only happen if we get at least 25mil. I really don’t think he’s valued that high, so yes it looks like he’ll stay.

How much would we take for Davis?

£25m would be breaking even by the time we pay any sell on clauses. Surely we’d want min 35m.

For Davis I’d want 15m plus, I think he’ll be a weapon again in the championship.

It’s actually nuts looking at the goal Involvements (goals and assists) from their last championship campaigns for some of the players, between 7 or 8 of them it’s about 120!

Weve now lost 3 very good players, ( Burgess, Axel & Morsy) this summer and not got a single penny for them. Is this good contract management by the club?

The only one of the three we could have got a small fee for would have been Sam as the other two were out of contract and not ours to sell. With Sam it’s not unusual to let a player with his service leave on free especially at his age, I guess it’s a thank you for his contribution to the club over the past 3 seasons in particular. I’m hopeful now we can hang onto Omari and that he commits himself to the club and doesn’t do anything silly like put in a transfer request or refuse to play. If he tried to force a sale we could easily find ourselves in a situation where we get little more than we paid for him. Hopefully this is a concern I don’t need worry about as he would have known the relegation risks when he signed his 4yr contract. Unless of course his agent convinced him his release clause would most definitely be triggered. I’m certainly not as confident as some that we’ve heard the last of this one. Hopefully he’ll give us one more season at least.

I'm with you here, not confident at all. Though needed to an extent but certainly can be a pain in the game are agents. They certainly do sniff out any reason to bring more money into their pockets and make no mistake Omari's like all good agents is touting and pushing his players name out there. I bet it was the agent who leaked the 5pm clause ending.

Only hope Omari can look at the wider scope, a good season playing for us would really him do him no harm at all and he knows Ipswich inside and out. Another promotion on his CV cannot be bad, at least Ipswich are in control of this situation and cannot be forced to sell unless they wish to or Omari like been mentioned throws his toys out of his pram

But you have to ask the question why Ashton allowed the contract situation yo get to the point where the player was allowed to walk away. The club offered numskull Woolfenden a 2 yr deal ( mind you no one appears to be interested in him snyway(. But my point is the club can offer deals attractive enough to get players to sign. But if you leave it until the player is in their final year it's going to be difficult to get them to.sign that deal. Axel and Burgess and now Morsy have all been allowed to get to thst point, and walked away. All three would have been very strong players for us this season. We should have dealt with it earlier in my view.

It looks like Brentford have offered £35m for Omari so that's also him now gone. Not a good summer in my view.

I would also add if Omari does leave we are f*cked down that right wing atm.

Where have you seen Brentford have offered 35 Million?

Morsy still had a year to run, his contract didn't run down, we are doing the decent thing to reward his loyalty and service to the club, it's a life changing move, had it been Derby we'd have commanded a fee, I think we've dealt with this in a decent and honourable way.

Burgess was a difficult one and I suspect it was muddied by which league we would eventually end up in, had we survived he'd almost certainly be gone, but once we knew our fate they decided to offer him something, the top and bottom of it is he's took a backward step to a nothing club to get first team football which he probably wouldn't be getting here, we are moving on and progressing and rightly so. I've not been wrapped up in this Burgess "love in" anyhow, bang average for me.

Tuanzebe would have been handy to keep but giving him a Two year deal when we did was quite a gamble given how he'd been a crock who nobody else wanted. Add to that he's injury prone too so again I'm not overly disappointed, I think this will turn out to be a blessing.

All in all I'm not disappointed about any of our dealings really, my biggest concern right now is that we need Two strikers to boost our attacking, preferably ones who score goals, once we do that I don't think we are too far away from a good squad, especially with another Midfielder likely to be arriving.

IPSWICH are hopeful of keeping hold of Omari Hutchinson after Brentford failed to trigger his release clause today.

The Bees, looking to replace Manchester United-bound Bryan Mbuemo, had until 5pm this afternoon to offer £35million which would have activated the clause.

Brentford had until 5pm on Tuesday to trigger Omari Hutchinson's £35m release clause but they missed it.

The Bees are looking to replace Man Utd-bound winger Bryan MbeumoCredit: Getty
Brentford made an offer on Monday evening.

However, it is understood that the bid was well below the release clause.

And with the west London club having failed to make a second attempt today, Hutchinson no longer has the clause and Ipswich can demand any amount they want for the winger.

Hutchinson, 21, completed a permanent £22.5m move to Portman Road from Chelsea a year ago after a successful loan stint in Suffolk.

The £35m clause came into effect after Ipswich’s relegation back to the Premier League.

In the same way, Liam Delap's £40m release clause was reduced to £30m once Ipswich suffered the drop.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna, hopeful of bouncing back to the Premier League at the first attempt, is keen to keep hold of Hutchinson.

The forward starred for England against Germany in the final of the European Under-21 Championship.

Good points MIke.

We have to remember here that we have been on a hell of a ride, and getting the right contracts for players will always be difficult to judge, given we've been in a different league each year for 3 years.
Also frankly 'getting a fee' for alot of those type of players (Morsy/Burges etc) will be almost an irrelevant amount of money, basically championbship clubs usually pay very low fee's- especially for players over 24 years old without further potential. To the point the fee makes no real differnece given the wages factor.

You dont want to be stuck with players who aren't good enough, and the flip side is you accept the risk of losing them for free.

Totally different with young talent which prem clubs might want, as the fee's are huge there.

Nobody would be paying us millions to get Burges or Morsy.....yet if we move them on we could save alot in wages and replace with better players, the water level needs to keep rising and some won't make the cut.

Exactly right. Every team, no matter who they are have players who's contract runs out and they move on for free, it's just the way it is, some massive names in the past have gone for nothing and i bet we too have benefitted from picking up players in these circumstances.

We can justify things all we like. I know scum would get a decent price for their players, they always do, whatever the circumstances. We rarely have done. . There’s no getting away from the fact that three very pivotal senior players have left this club for zero income. That’s not good business in my humble opinion. We have possibly escaped losing Omari due to technicalities of payment terms in his contract, installed by his agent, not this club, and which Brentford failed to meet. There’s still time for other clubs to come in for him of course, but hopefully the line “ no other club showed interest”, holds true, and I think that is mostly because of the price tag arranged by his agent. Don’t forget Chelsea are sat in the wings with their hefty sell on clause too.

We need to keep hold of him, he’s a very important attacking player for us. The alternative is we have three crocks in Burns, Phillogene and Ogbene still to make it back into being fit enough to play. Burns is out until at least Oct and I’m honestly not convinced he’ll get back to what he was. Hutchinson is absolutely vital for us this season, in my view.

I absolutely hate the money side of the game now . It stinks.

It's not justifying things, it's facts. I really don't see Burgess as pivotal at all, squad player at best and only recently I was about the only one that wanted Morsy to stay so not sure why anyone else is bothered. Personally once a player moves on I really don't give a flying f*ck what price we get for them, doesn't help me in any way shape or form.

Liz you said " We have possibly escaped losing Omari due to technicalities of payment terms in his contract, installed by his agent, not this club, and which Brentford failed to meet"

How do you know that? The agent doesn't care how money is paid to Ipswich but only for him and his client. The clause wasn't met by Brentford for in my opinion clauses put in by Mark Ashton and his team
Brentford so it seems wanted to pay the £35 million over number of years, drawing out the payment and it seems that was not in the £35 million clause so Good on Mark and Ipswich sticking to their guns. Now if Brentford are that desperate for Omari looks like they will have to pay more

Far as losing "three very pivotal senior players" don't forget new contracts were offered to both Burgess and Tuanzebe, far as Burgess it looks like he wanted more playing time with world cup coming up next year. Fair enough but at Ipswich he has O’Shea and Greaves possibly in front of in pecking order so no way could Kieran grant that. With Tuanzebe you a risk because of his injuries record.
The lure of Premier league football and going back to North West was big draw for him also.

With Morsy has been mentioned he was not out of contract but in fairness the club because of his exceptional time at Ipswich given this possible huge send off to say thank you

Being picky but I think they said SELL one or two, but there will be some natural 'churn' of the squad and they said that is normal/healthy.

I have high hopes and expectation for both Jaden Philogene and Jack Clarke next season. Both had spectacular seasons for Hull City and Sunderland respectively only the season before last and there’s no reason why these levels of performance can’t be restored. Hopefully they will get more game time in the Championship giving them a much better chance to achieve thd krvel of performance each are capable of.
This would of course also restore their value which has almost certainly plummeted since joining town last season.

I don't think we've seen the end of the Hutchinson thing just because the relegation clause has now expired.

That expired clause now leaves a transfer possible for any fee and any conditions.

Of course, we don't want to sell him and on that basis could set an extremely un-realistic price on him. But what if he decides he wants out? He may well think he's good enough to be playing in the PL, and we all know that players can hold clubs to ransom when they don't want to be there.
