Youngsters Owen Garvan and Scott Barron are reported to have been offered new deals at Portman Road. Yesterday news broke of contract offers for Jason De Vos, Fabian Wilnis and Matt Richards.

Manager Joe Royle says David Sheepshanks is negotiating the deals: "The chairman is in talks with all the players' agents and I'm happy to leave all the discussions up to him."

De Vos, who is expected to take over as captain when Jim Magilton leaves at the end of the season, has confirmed that he will be signing the extension to his current terms which will keep him at the club until 2008.

think the "delay" is all linked to availbility of funds...it's no coincidence that Town have just been given some more dosh...the two - three days later they actively discuss new contracts with the players they want to keep.

But like you say the need to get Juan on a contract is crucial ...I expect Town are in talks with his Club though !

sorry riv but Im not convinced de vos is up to another season especially if we by some miracle go up.Im pleased magic has´nt played so much and I think de vos is rapidly following in the same suit.I hope Im proved wrong but 2008 seems a little long.

I agree that DeVos may not be up to the standard we need week in week out next season, but we all know that a good squad has depth. Look at Sheffield United for example, they've got a huge squad. It's pretty much imperative that if we want to go up automatically next season, we'll need a squad that can cope with injuries.

I think that people are making connections between him and other players who have been good for one season. Look at Miller, Kuqi etc., they were OK before last season, played a blinder last season and then sank back again.

Now their in the Premiership though, and I wouldnt say Kuqi is doing that bad and as for Miller he is in an underperforming team

To be fair Dazza he has only been playing out of his skin the past 2 months max. Previous to that he was a liability at the back.

No surprise his improved form has actually coincided with the teams improved form - but I think 3 more years of De Vos could be a bit of a risk. By all means sign him up for another year - but 2008 is a long way off.

I agree with the 2008 deadline, its a bit silly. I think JR wants a captain whos going to stick around for a few years, this is why I'd give it to Naylor. He is experienced but still young enough to have 3 or 4 very good seasons.

to be honest mate i am not too worried about miller - kuqi i was sad to see go. his effort and commitment was amazing. apart from millers goals i dont remember him contributing much else and our midfield looks alot better without him imo.

its Millers (and Bents and Kuqi) goals we have missed this season, and goals win games

i mean Parkin is still our joint top scorer and he has been out since god knows when, we're not scoring as many as we use to and thus not winning

You know that will happen LOL!!

Yeah I hear you - goals do make the difference - although I think our midfield is now starting to churn them out. Richards is the new penalty king, while jimmy juan is getting goals galour (nearly) williams looks like he could notch a few over the season and of course Currie always has the ability to pull one out.

I think when we were off form we missed the goals - but I think there are enough goals in the current midfield to effectively replace Miller. Although up front is still an issue - hopefully Sam Parkin will show us what he is really made of.
